Hmm... Daytona.... WAY too many gear changes...  :P

You could always start with say 5 or 10 second interval between cars ala I.O.M. TT races , should avoid the T1 melee  ;D

Very dumb question - but this is the Oval - not a version with the a twisty in-field part?

I have no idea how to drive an oval - is the inside line the fastest?

Yes, it's a FUN race  ::)

I have raised the numbers of laps to 48 as I had not tested the track when posting this event  ;)

I just hope that everyone who intends to run comes to this thread and becomes aware of it.

Forgot to mention in my post above...

I've alerted several buddies...not UKGPL members...of this event and they may look to enter.  Is that OK?  I've made it clear to them that they may not enter the server until the last 20 minutes of run time in qualifying.  By rights, any UKGPL members have dibs on starting.

The more the merrier Doni.  I've never done an oval race so I'm looking forward to this one, so I hope there will be enough space.  I can't help but think it will be the last man standing that wins.  A crash and reset will leave you so far behind it will be really tough to catch up!

Great idea Phil for a second server  ;)

We could make 8 to Works and 4 to Privateers server. Same PW

So everybody is welcome and can find his slot ;D

There does seem to be quite a lot of interest in this one so I thought it best to have a second server ready if required.  We wouldn't want anyone to miss out :D

UKGPL_4 is set up for 48 laps with same BW settings as UKGPL_8.

That was fun :) but unfortunately I made a mistake and crashed out.  I would like to have another go at this track.  Perhaps a team race with the faster drivers taking the slower cars?  Santa v Elves Christmas fun race?  Each team takes a mixture of cars?

Not sure, but did you have the new Daytona 1967 (dayto67) installed? Previously the Daytona 1970 (daytona) version was used.

Quite an intense race, early on ran a way too tall untested 5th gearing, but soon had to fall back on my 4th (3.59) gear, because Col went away at the front while Dean and I were side by side. Felt like Col had a slightly shorter gearing, and only got closer with traffic. We had to check up  a few times for miscommunication with the lines. Normally lapped cars would go/stay high, but also without spotters it's hard to be aware all the time if you're not used to it...

After another check up, Col lost touch with me, giving me just enough margin to bring the car to the finish first. A little bit of traffic towards the end just helped me enough...

Great pace Col, and well done Greg! :)

For some reason I was sure that qual will start at 21:30. Much to my surprise chat room was empty (except Iestyn) at 21:27, and the server was in last minute of qual. So I plugged my wheel, and joined in hurry. As I had no practice, I stood in the garage with default setup. Changed a few things, set fuel, went to the grid and crossed my fingers :D As I could not try the track since its release I expected to see the grid on the back straight like on the 24h version. It was not there, so I felt we will have a full warm up lap. My guess was right :) So it was in lap 2 when I realized that my gears were too long, and the engine topped at 8000 rpm - touching 300 km/h only in a tow... That really determined my race, as compared to pole lap I was 3 sec slower :D Anyway I decided to finish the race with no more than 4 laps down to winner. Later I had to retire to pits for family reasons. Congrats to the winner and all finishers! Next time I will put more attention to race details :)

Good fun at Daytona!  :)

Grats to Robert, Colin and Greg for the near-foto finish in that order.

I thought that the pacer lap was just a bit too fast and would prefer it stepped back to 100mph, svp.

I'd recommend having the pole sitter wait to gas it up til we reach the starter's stand.  This will give more runners a chance to get off the banking before throttling up.

Never raced at Daytona.  Downloading now.  8)

Rouen will be not in vain as we will do it with 69X ;)

Since we've already done Rouen with 69s, how about somewhere different?  I've just downloaded Zolder - it's great.  8)

The reason to do Rouen is the server disaster we had there with 69X  ::)

I am not shure to get a full grid next sunday...

Big Grats RF, CB & GT  :thumbup1:

Good fun at Daytona!  :)

My mind went lap 1 a little too fast, did not dare to be close like in NASCAR because, I expected there would be slowed down before T'last & would not risk a mega crash.
On the other hand, the fast speed worked well...if you had only known in hindsight.

My race setup was 100% safe (48 laps without errors) unfortunately too slowly  Tried to get in touch with Cookie, but never close enough to be able to use sleep stream & Cookie disappeared...& front train too.

A really fun race & regardless of the slow setup, ends 4  ;D

Thank you for good entertainment at Daytona & Merry Christmas  :censored: xmas smiley

Congrats Rob and Colin!

Colin drove excellent. He was very consistent which made it fairly easy to stay close to him. I passed him as soon as I caught him. Our lap times got slower. Since I don't have any practice passing to improve our lap times, I fell in behind him hoping I could push him back to Rob. At several points I thought, "if Colin lifts entering the banking I could possibly hit him." I see in the replay he was lifting. I was cautious enough that that never caused a problem.

The finish was a bit anticlimactic. We caught 2 lapped cars near the end. I was hoping for a shot at passing on the last lap. :) One more lap Rob, and we'd have been all over you. I probably averaged about a 5 foot gap behind Colin. Once the race was over, I cut that distance in half on the cool down lap. No longer did I need to be concerned that I might collide with Colin. Prib read 45.05 on the cool down lap. :)

Thanks guys.
