:-\ Am I right in presuming it is the fast F40 and not the super fast one?

make sure to extract the skins to your content/F40/skins dir otherwise they dump into your main AC folder.
likewise put the track in the tracks folder  ;)  only saying this as most installers allow you to just point to main AC directory.

Got to saying I flipping love this car  :tt1: its just so raw and analogue, awesome to sim drive albeit this isn't the easiest track to get to grips with its brute power!  to me its sim racing nirvana with a stick shift and a car like this to drive.
1:51.1 for me so far on a 'fast track' with 20L onboard. Got a 1:50 in me if I can keep it clean all the way round.
My advice is to drive several laps at 6-7/10ths and just build up your speed. If you try to drive this fast from the outset it will just get frustrating as you spin off or get on the grass too often. Don't give it full beans over crests either or it will spit you into the scenery. But I found it a controllable beast if I kept it below 10/10ths and braked early enough to get it stopped and turned in properly.
Great car, this is what we should be having a mini-series in!....and that sound  turn up your speakers

Bagsy the shell Oils car as I have a 1:43rd version on my desk!  8)

I don't know what it is, but I just can't stand these kind of mid engined cars. They always feel like the rear wheels are steering and the car is pivoting around a centre point on the car, instead of the front wheels. Rear slides in a very odd way  :-X

Wow, 550mb  :o

Which version is it? 'Oulton park' or 'Oulton Park no chicanes'

Strange how Oulton short is twice the size as the others..

Yeah, huge track, but still very ugly.

It is the version with the 2 incredibly stupid chicanes, because we need those for safety reasons online  ::)

Stop complaining lol.. I used the ones with the chicanes because its more of a challenge.  Especially the last one.

Quite like the chicaned version and that's what they use when I have track day'd there. The 2nd chicane will save half the field having huge offs on the otherwise very fast off camber right hander!  :P

It's not the best version of Oulton park but at least someone took the time to make it for AC

i've never known it to be used without the chicanes. Though they are going to be big pinch points. Anything planned for later, online?

Tried running offline as usual but there was something wrong i think, the tyre app i run show pressures in the high 40's yet going back to garage showed the usual hot pressures being i number lower than the cold ones. Tyres definitely take a a few laps to get in there window.

I was getting 41 all round so I took a further two psi out of each and straight away improved my laptime.

Hoping to jump on bit later but won't get long, half hour tops, assuming a server is even up, usually rely on Eriks

Was on the server but nobody showed up. 1:49.3 now  :) quite pleased considering I'm manually h-shifting too  :P

Nope. I'm out

I cant be consistent on my own let alone having others around. I dont consider this a car to be driven, relying on the ffb to tell me whats going on. the car is bucking all over the place, it handles like a sack of potatos, brakes too sensitive, i have no confidence on turn in. The only way to drive this is 'by the numbers' tun here, be at this speed, brake at this % which i find really dull and boring in these road cars.

I thought it was a handful for first 10 minutes but as soon as I stopped trying to go flat out from the off, it all came together. You just have to try and get the mindset that your actually driving the car and it means you ease off the throttle earlier and brake and slow properly, then the lap times tumble and you can gradually force the pace as you get the feel of it, within reason.
It's certainly not too hard to drive, I'm doing it one handed as I change gears!  :P I also found the brakes good on it.

Well thats another issue; driving manual cars with paddle shift means you end up relying on the auto clutch to randomly, almost 0.5-1sec later hearing the revs rise as it tries ot match the speed. Its too unpredictable. Sure i can see a smooth style is need in these cars as they are very soft, but with very little resistance through the wheel i lack talent. ITs not the actually loads but more of a resistance almost, too much power steering.

Max out your camber ad set your tyres to about 22psi.

Incan imagine with auto clutch this car being a pita to drive tho. :(

I did a 1:50 with auto clutch and then a 1:49.3 with manual shifts (after an extra half hour praccy) so not much in it to be fair. Only thing manual shifting gives (other than more immersion) is that it makes you drive the car more naturally so you drive it like you would a real one, downshifting and braking in time (and trying not to smash it up or go off!) Also with auto clutch I would go up into 4th more and then take too much momentum into corners. Manually I stay in third more and downshift to 2nd for the tighter corners. Keeps the car stable. I'm running 33psi all round, camber at -1

But were you still using your H-shifter mark? Using it means you have to slow it all down, i guess its more habit, paddle allows you to get down the box quite quickly. I always seem to be going for first into the second chicane, just find the gears a little too tall for my liking but end up spinning out.

I'll try it out tonight.

no, I did autoclutch with paddle shifters then h-shifter with manual clutch pedal.

Server needs an update chaps, Kunos have released 1.4 update  :)  otherwise you get a checksum error and booted when you try and join the server like I did earlier.

Inspired by the video (which looks like a pro racing driver driving it!) I got down to a 1:47.6 with 20L fuel onboard :o
I increased my camber to -1.5 f, -1.0 rear and dropped my psi to 30 all round.

managed to lunch a gearbox this eve doing manual h-shifting so i'll have to be careful of that in the race. :-\

setup tweaks helped alot, have also increased the road affect and min force which helps alot, need to feel the weight of the car, if artificial.

I did do a 49.0 but then each lap either side was 3 secs off! Am struggling turning, braking then turning into the double-RHer towards end.

That'll be because I didn't know about the update until about 30 mins ago. I have some work I must do first but will update the server before tonight's race.

And the server is now up to date. However I still need to buy the DP3 so that content is missing for now.

Enjoyed the challenge of this combo and love driving the F40  :)

Couldn't get it together in qually to topple Chris, both my last two runs were well up in time to challenge for pole and I blew it both times  ::) started 2nd  :)

Chris opted for street tyres in the race but sadly that left me no one to race and I did a light to flag finish in first place  :) keeping focus for 17 laps up front was a challenge on its own but would have enjoyed someone to chase and the visual spectacle of these great looking cars on track.

Happy with the win  :) not here next couple of weds eves so will wish you all a merry Xmas  :thumbup1:

Phew, never had to concentrate so hard in my life. Was just aiming to finish so decided to not try and silly moves as really wasnt expecting to be trying to overtake tbh. Took until the race to become comfortable as again, my offline conditions were different  ::) it was brighter and hotter, which meant i seem to lose my braking marker on the tarmac before the first chicane due to the sun.

ah well, nevermind.. :)

I'm sure you had more fun / battles that way. If you'd stuck with semi-slicks you wouldn't have seen another car after the 1st couple of laps!

Mine and Spanner's problem was we believed the fuel estimate and thus ran with too little fuel. I got 'lucky' and after the engine conked out managed to roll to my pit box and put some more fuel in to do the last lap. Cost me a place though :(
