Title: Weekly Fun Races
Post by: ChrisR on December 31, 2015, 11:08:37 AM +0000
Morning fellas, i just thought i would pop a post on here to let people know whats going on..

With it being xmas and new year i have not had much time to spend on the PC, im sure even if there was races on i know most of you would be in the same boat and unable to attend so i decided that i would stop until the new year.

I plan on starting the races on the 7th and carrying on from where i left off, i'm hoping to get something on the site in the next day or two.

So, i hope you all had a good christmas and hope you have a good new year tonight and i will see you on the 7th.

I might be up for some of these. Personally I would like some GT3 races, Lotus Elise spec races and some GT86 spec races. Not to bothered on tracks as all the Kunos tracks are great.

An early heads up on the car/track combo would be very useful so we can have a practise whilst most of us are still off work loafing  :P

Just driven the BMW 235i for the first time. Oh what a fun car. Would make a great spec series,me specially if skin packs are possible in AC.

Skin packs are very easy to use in AC  :) and we've used several already on here for different cars. Think we've already used that Beemer in a series here  :-\ where were you?  ;)

Skin packs seem very hit and miss. You cant specify a skin to use, it randomly chooses a skin for you. The F40 race we did, only one car i remember had a skin from the skin pack!

You can specify a skin to use and you can see a skin being used by an other, as long as you have the skin installed. The only time you don't get your chosen skin, is when the server is set in pick-up mode. For booking mode you need to have selected your skin before you book in, after booking you can't change your skin unless you withdraw first.

Skins can be specified, but need to be preset by entering the users Steam GUID into the server when it is configured for the race. Obviously the skin needs to be loaded onto the server as well and each player will need to download and install that skin on their local system to be able to see it as well. If no skin is specified then the server will just assign the next skin on the list to you when you join the server.
It all seems quite long winded, but it is really quite straightforward.

Haha sorry, been sim racing for about 35 years, just fancied a break  ;D

To be honest, after GTR2, GTL, GPL and Rfactor, I've struggled to get into any of the recent releases. IRacing has been too much hard work, RFactor 2 has either looked crap, run crap or lacked the content. AC has also been pretty poor up until the last 6 months which for me is when it made a huge improvement. Totally loving it now, the content is great and gets better with every update and the physics are amazing. It's giving me the buzz I got when playing GPL. Just want to do some league racing now :)

No, the skins don't need to be on a server. There are 3 ways to set a server 1: pick-up mode (server gives skin in order of joining) 2: Booking mode (You pick your skin before joining and see if all others, if you have it on your system), 3: GUID mode (Admin sets server with guid numbers and skins)

But when you select the skin before hand, you mean you need to go and do some offline practise in the skin beforehand and then it remembers it? I'm sure aa number of times it didnt work and gave me a different one.

No need to do offline practice, just select your car and skin in practice mode. Only in pick-up mode you can't chose your skin. I always got my choice of skin in booking mode and only the wrong one if I didn't have it selected beforehand.

Always got the skin I chose by doing just what Jester says.  :) only the praccy server gets randomised as its not a booked race.

What is practise mode then? sorry, confused.

No worries, I can understand that it can be confusing. Especially when it's a Dutch guy trying to explain it in English  :helpsmilie:
I actually just mean anywhere you can select the car skin.

Ok thanks :)

That was what i meant by offline practise for the first one, but i have to say, i hadnt noticed anywhere to choose a car, when going online, the second one. Hmm, will have to be more observant next time!

Lol, err right then, as it's nearly 11pm and leaves only one more eve for any praccy, how about we use some new content  :) :-

Rs1600's At Brands Hatch  8)

Or Lotus 72's at Brands Hatch  8)

I'm happy with either, guess the escorts will be more fun for close racing,  and require less taming. If anyone's got the spare time tomorrow and could work out a lap count for either for a 30min race, that would be useful (I'll be at work)

Might want to check with Picnic that the server has the new content.

Wont be able to get on for practise till late tommorow anyway.

DP3 is on the server, sadly I'll not any chance to run AC before race night.

Hi chaps, all the best for 2016!

Considering the limited time i would go with something a little easier. When the DLC3 came out i did some online laps on Brands with the Escort, it was a very nice combo, quite straightforward. Should provide some good racing. Can't remember my laptimes though.. Will see if i can turn some laps tonight or to have a look if i can see race stats anywhere in AC.

Edit: the wr at RSR stands at a 1.41sec and i noticed one of the NoGrip lads wich who i raced before they killed their AC races did a 1.47sec. So expect the laptimes between these times for Brands GP, but more towards the latter mark.

Or something like the Abarth 500 Corsa @ Zandvoort? Should also provide some door to door action.

If you know what car/track you want to do, let me know and I can set up a practice server today.

Cheers Erik, postal and Pete.

Escort RS1600 at Brands it is then. I tried the combo briefly over Xmas and it was a hoot  :)

Erm, don't want to beast anyone but it's now Sunday again and no race announcement for this Wednesday  :-\
It's not healthy for the continuity of racing here to never have a race planned, any potential new drivers dipping in will just head elsewhere in their search for racing and even regulars will migrate.  :(

In lieu of no announcement by Chris, how about trying some cars we hardly use? I'm thinking Sauber C9, either on its own or in a nice group C bash with the Mazda 787 at somewhere like Spa or Silverstone  8) or the Lotus 72, again either on its own or v the F312  :)
Or we could use them next week so that everyone gets a chance for practise  :-\ and run something quicker to get to grips with this week...escorts again at zaandvort this time?

The racing world is our oyster  :)

As long as it is H shifter car and "serious" track, I`m in.

Btw - mazda is much faster than C9 so, for that combo you may consider some weight penalty or really low damage for C9 to be able using higher turbo boost.

Title: Re: Weekly Fun Races
Post by: Mark J on January 10, 2016, 05:48:07 PM +0000
Yes had read that the Mazda has the edge in performance over the c9 but figured people might still want to take both depending on what they feel they can keep on track   :P

Agree on the h-shifting too, feels great in AC!

By the way, if anyone has a good idea for a car/track combo, feel free to offer it up here or via pm  :)

Having not been able to do any practice can i advise against thinking too big! Your likely to put people off if their too difficult to drive.

Another night gone, can someone post something up, even just a normal post  with the details?

Sorry guys been too busy with real life last couple of days to put anything last minute ad-hoc together.
With my sim racing currently focused on a well attended Gt3 series over at Core, I haven't got the spare time to test/try any random combos. To be honest that wasn't what I was interested in sorting weekly anyway, it was Chris' intention. I'm happy to set up a proper racing mini series like I did for the E30's as that's what floats my boat and is also only thing I'm happy to give spare time to practising for alongside my gt3 training. Just not enough spare time to do much else.
So who's up for another race series?

Can still put up something for this week as a fun race but it's late notice again so attendance may be low  :-\
Alfa GT or escorts at zandvoort?
Lotus Elise or exige at Donington?
Gallardos at Mugello?
Etc

Do something easy to pick up. Or something you might start a season with.

How about a combo that everyone had enjoyed before? Getting a bit late now to get a reasonable field. I'll keep checking in to see if there is any progress.

Chris

Hi all. Don't worry Mark, i think we all know about limited time and real life stuff. I appreciate the weekly fun races, but like you i am all for some kind of series. That is what floats my boat. So if you feel like it, i am very happy to join a mini-series.

As for tonight's race how about AR-GTA vs Lambo Muira SV @ Zandvoort or Vallelunga? Altough the Gallardo might also be nice to drive sometime..

As for a mini series. I do like the older car sets, but maybe we can alternate 2 mini series along Chris's fun races?
A Ferrari 458 or Lotus Evora GX (no TC, no ABS) series and a F1 Legends:  F312T vs McLaren M23 vs Lotus 72D series? (i can think of 10 tracks on which these would be great out the top of my head right now  ;D)
