Title: UKGPL Season 29 (2015-16) Privateers Trophy (67) - Rouen - Jan 10
Post by: Robert Fleurke on January 04, 2016, 04:28:02 PM +0000
Season 29 Privateers Trophy - Round 06 - Rouen

After the mid-season break we return to familiar grounds, to the great track of Rouen. Rouen-Les-Essarts was a 6.542 km (4.065 mi) motor racing circuit in Grand-Couronne, near Rouen, France.

From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

Rouen hosted five Formula One French Grand Prix races, the last one in 1968 resulting in the tragic burning death of Jo Schlesser, at the fast downhill Six Frères curve. The circuit continued to host major Formula 2 events until 1978, after which it was used for various French Championships.

I could not make this race because today is my wife's birthday. I'm looking forward to the next race at Sandown.

Oh what a total idiot I am. Got pole in the Ferrari, with a PB.  Lap 2, just over cooked it at T1, span off, lost a wheel.  Rejoined, had some great racing with various people for a good few laps, and then I remembered - I HADN'T DONE A STOP AND GO.  :-[  Retired from 4th.  If I had a brain I might be dangerous.

Wasnt going to bother racing , big dose of man flue here ,  but decided to run anyway , glad I did , love this track .

Joined late to find I had only the default set ups , cobbled one together which wasn't too bad except for the brake balance which cost me a lot of grief in the race .

Sorry for the touch Billy,  not seen the replay yet but I assume it was all your fault anyway ( naturally)

Tough luck for Ronnie , well done Mike finishing in one piece , the Soggies deserved better .

Grats to the Podium boys and all the other brave souls who finished  :)

Unlucky Ronnie, it was shaping up to be a good race.  I don't drive the Lotus much these days, it is fast but it is easy to make mistakes in it.  I lost quite a lot of time through unforced errors and silly spins.  But nice to get a few decent points to help my championship position.

Was enjoying a good battle with Billy and Bastian early on.  Pleased to see Billy back in the driving seat again.  Hope the back didn't give you too much trouble!

I must have also been hit by the 4th place curse :)   DSL dropped out again about 7 laps in  [had done similar during practice/qually session].

Last event seems as though it must have been a long time ago - the outlap was pretty bad!
Was just starting to get more comfortable in the race when my connection dropped out.  Never mind.  Up until that point,  I was happy enough to still be able to see the chaps ahead on the track; although I knew that they would pull away / I would not be a threat.

Congratulations all finishers & cheers all; see you next time.

Dave.

Oh what a total idiot I am.
The same for me having failed the breaking at the hairpin in the first lap.I have found problem with the calibration of my pedals. In the first time the gas was like the gas of "basic trainer".i left the race to check something wrong in GEM but was the calibration. After the calibration the breaking becomes more difficult whereas before was possible to push the pedal without blocking the wheels.
Mysteries of my Faster Pedal.
after the race i have had the doubt to have caused your spin in the hairpin but ,after having seen the replay, there is no contact between the cars.

Thanks Phil,
My back isn't right but mobile enough to drive. Sadly not the cause of missing the braking point at Serie on lap 9 & taking 30+ seconds to extract myself from behind various fences & bollards. Had a spell battling with Bernie, particularly when he took a slightly unusual slalom link down the pit straight.
The high point was leading the race after Phil & Bastian appeared to have parked themselves on either side to the approach to Nouveau Monde. Bastian got past when I had a half spin on lap 9, shortly before my off track excursion.
Didn't really get the return out of the Eagle I was hoping before, but good to get back to racing after the break.

Apart from one Scene it was a good race for me.

In Lap 8 i was approaching Billy and Phil for the hairpin.

Phil went inside, I went outside. Phil was a bit blocking the corner and i had to turn in. Maybe he took care of Billy in front of him who was a bit in trouble.
The slow hit was bumping the wheels of from Phil. I'm really sorry. that was not my intention.

I have saved my rpy this time. I will submit when i'm at home.

Grats to all finishers.

Very sorry to hear Ronnie. In the future I will specifically add the S&G rule into the racepostings, which I never did so far...

Oh what a total idiot I am...

+1 and for different reasons, I had actually put in quite a bit of practice but it was over a month ago and I had the wrong race date in my mind all that time. I thought it was next weekend. Oh well.

I like Sandown but the last time I raced it in another league, there were quite a few CTDs (if I remember correctly) and there was talk it being something to do with the track. I was one of those who found themselves abruptly staring at their desktop with an over-revving engine in the background. Quite frustrating.

At oAo D2 last season?

I never ever had problems at that track, and it has been raced in different leagues. But I will check things, and might have to come up with an alternative track then...

GPLRACER blacklist says: "Sandown 68 -> many freezes; problem solved with patch!"

PS I can't find a patch anywhere...
_______________________________________________________________________
I am more worried about Historics

Sachsenring -> heavy warps and lags, freezes, discos (65 Mod)
-> freezes & discos (69 Mod)

I had some races there, none without troubles...

Cheers Axel, and George for making the point!

I have done some research, found out some other drivers suffering from screenfreezes here. Also can't find the patch, will contact GPLRACER admins.

Maybe we should simply change the track, to avoid problems. I apologize for putting this track on the calender. Really thought it was a reliable track, but I seem to be wrong (again).

Stay tuned...

Check out this GPLRACER topic:

http://forum.gplracer.eu/topic.php?id=1420&highlight=sandown&

The direct link to the (server) patch is here (http://altforum.gplracer.net/topic.php?id=1071&highlight=&s=3056b69758aac8ddc57a956a3595c4f5&s=3056b69758aac8ddc57a956a3595c4f5)

I propose Axel and Jethro install this patch at their servers, as it seems to fix the occasional screenfreezes...

"Thanks to the server-update by the author of the track [...] there are no freezes of the server running a full grid anymore."

I wasn't able to upload my rpy as a rar or a 7zip

Replay clip: /tmp/phprhZ7G4 from phil2.rar size 610545
Error(s) while uploading attachments: Array (
  • => bad_extension )

I did it another time, renaming the rar to a .zip which opens up.
My Laptop doesn't seem to generate zip types anymore, didnt find the option anymore

I'm using latest WinRAR which has implemented also 7zip support (ofcourse also zip). You'll have to early next week to upload, or do upload somewhere else.

I understand Bastian, but you should have adjusted your entering speed and avoiding hitting Phil. Try to see it from Phil's perspective, he lost the chance to fight for the win, and had arguably the fastest car. His line was not optimal and you could have anticipated the situation when Billy was just in front of Phil.

I get no relief or fun penalizing, in contrary. But we must follow the rules.
