Apparently the Mazda has a performance edge over the C9 but I'm assuming it's also trickier to drive. Just choose whatever your preference and enjoy the driving experience, hopefully with some good racing thrown in  :)

Finally we get to drive these iconic cars. :thumbup2: The Mazda seems to have the edge over the Merc, but the lap times for Spa listed at RSR seem very comparable.

Hehe, sorry Fmg  ;D it was just best pic I could find quickly that had Spa and a group C car.

I am keeping my eye on the awesome looking Porsche 962 that is being very professionally modded on Kunos site, it's due for imminent release  8) if this race is successful and that gets released I will run a Group C series for sure  :)

Whohoo. Just did a couple of laps. Scary stuff these! And a great distinctive sound from both machines. I fear it will take at least a mini-series before i get to grips with these fellas! :P

I noticed the race isn't appearing at the top of page in announcements either, prob needs Pete or Tony's wizardry  :sorcerer:

just tried both cars out, proper Group C cars 8) view from the cockpit is great and both cars look amazing in the replays.
Theres a setup for Spa here for the C9, says he did a 2:12 with it!  :o  quickest ive been is a 2:17 in the Mazda but only handful of laps using stock setup.

I will try that setup, as the stock one is horrible.
The Mazda is a lot more enjoyable straight out of the box. On RSR there are times of 2:07, but I don't know if that was with the old tyre model. I hope so, as I've only done a 2:13 with race setup  :-\

EDIT: Do these things have boost?  :o That might explain the speed difference  ;D

Welcome back. Glad you could find a spot in your busy schedule, helping Max around  ;).

Password isn't visible for some reason, but I think it is the normal practice PW.

Anyone know how I can assign some buttons to control the boost? I couldn't see it in the normal controls section and there isn't a manual?
At the Mo I'm finding the C9 nearly 15 seconds off the Mazda  :o

Welcome back Jos, good to see we can encourage some new(old) faces to the races  :)

I didn't mess with boost yet in my short test runs. In the Mazda I was using all the torque to stay in 3rd in the tighter corners and not unsettle the car in lairy 2nd gear!
If anyone finds or cobbles together a good setup please share with the gang as its better for all if more get up to speed and can stay on track  :)

And thanks again to Pete for assisting me on getting the race into the system.  :thumbup1:

Hi there Jos. Big fan of your son hihihi  ;D
Altough i did no more than 8 laps, the best lap was a 2.22,1sec. So i might just get it below the 2.20sec mark on race day, i doubt i will be quicker than that. It will be great not to spin in the first place! I certainly hope there will be some other drivers without alien pace tomorrow.

Isn't the AC version a low downforce LeMans type of the C9??
I found upping the rear toe and camber settings helped taming the twitchy 787 quite a bit. Haven't touched the rest of settings yet.

No wonder it behaves totally different than the video. It understeers like a pig in eau rouge and blanchimont and kicks like a mule everywhere else  :P.

Full boost is awesome, but good luck using that the whole race.

I will drive the Mazda, because the Mercedes Just doesn't feel right at Spa, whereas the mazda does.

That C9 is indeed Satans chariot to drive!  :o

Bit of a red herring with that setup I linked to I think. Its either an old one (pre tyre updates) or is an alien specific long distance setup.
I just did a 2:19 with my own setup, running a boost at 60% for most of the lap but hitting 80% on the fast stretches. With medium tyres and 40L fuel. Still a tricky beast though and I keep locking up the fronts despite moving the bias more rearward and increasing front bump.  :-\

Setup is here if you want to try it/improve it.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vjpln0woz1sfgpa/Sauber%20C9_Spa_2_19.ini?dl=0

Drive whichever of the cars you feel you can keep on the road the longest  :P If that means a grid full of Mazdas, so be it, as its first time we've all come to grips with it.

ps well spotted on the LM config, wonder why Kunos did that version when we don't have a proper LM track!?

That C9 is indeed Satans chariot to drive!  :o

'It's got pickup' hasn't it?!

I managed a 2:22 in it on the hard tires from the setup with only some slight mods to suit my driving.

Made some more radical changes and now have it going fast a little more consistently.
Tempted to run it tomorrow anyway as I've not been online in AC before - That way I shouldn't cause to many issues if I mess something up.  ;)

For FMG/Jos or any other AC newbies, you may not be aware of the 'booking system' ? But you need to fire up AC, go to online lobby to find the srouk race, enter password and click the booking/sign in button before 8.15 to get yourself added to the race server. You can then quit out or go and do other stuff or practise offline until your ready to Join for qually. Just go back to the online lobby and hit the 'join' button  :)

Think I will take the martini Mazda tonight even though I've done more practise in the C9. I just feel I've got better chance of pace and survival in the 787. :P

During booking mode you only reserve a slot. You press request booking, and then wait. Once the timer reaches 0, there will appear a join button at the bottom left, where the timer was. After you requested your booking, you can do whatever you want, even practicing offline.

Quite enjoyale race that, had Jos with me the whole time.

Tried upping the boost a few times, but that just made the car undriveable on hards for me.

Clearly these cars are not in the same class. The Mazda doesn't lose that much between qually and race. I lost around 5 seconds, even 6 compared to my offline time, and my tank wasn't even full. Either something was seriously bugged with my tyres, or it is normal to have such a ridiculous gap.

And for the love of God, can we stop with the stupid time of day settings. I come here to race, not to share a brokeback mountain scene with a few guys and a sunset.  ::).

It adds absolutely nothing, to be blinded by the sun, and to have shadows of fences flash through my windscreen. Yes, a nice atmosphere...whooptidoo  :-X ::)

Lol, point taken on the sunlight Jeff   :D must admit I had meant to move the time to earlier in the day after I found the fence shadows irritating in my praccy last night, but forgot.  :-[

I enjoyed the event, both qually and race and was pleased to be nicely in the mix with 3 or 4 cars just ahead of me most of the race whilst running 5th  :) also enjoyed some dicing with Chris early on and Fmg later in the race. It was a good challenge and you had to stay focused the whole race, especially when the medium tyres went off on about lap 9 of 13  :o. The C9's had some serious grunt down the straights! I couldn't even pass with a tow down the kemmel but the Mazda had better handling in the twisties.

Finished a solid 4th  :)

Big thanks to all that competed and great to see some new and old names appear.  The cars looked great out on track and sounded cool too  8)

great race indeed, jeffrey, not a single lonely lap.

i did quite a few laps with full boost but as soon as you started sliding it became very difficult.

i thought we were racing for victory but there was a mazda way out in front :P

tyre model 5 should slow it down but at spa it will probably still be faster, at le mans on the other hand :)

the ligthing i quite liked, made it more in the spirit of....yep, le mans :P

That was an interesting introduction to AC!
First apologies for the pitlane start - I still don't know why I was started there ???
What ever the reason As I thought I'd been penalised I got out of the lane as fast as I could when the lights went green only to find myself in the lead!

Pretty pleased with my finish as I didn't stack it anywhere and managed a decent dice with Mark for a few laps - Watching the Mazda go backwards every straight was highly entertaining  :P
When the White flag came out I threw caution to the wind and stuck the turbos on full boost, it wasn't enough but I was amazed how much of Marks' lead I ate up  8)

Have you been following the thread on that 962? Talk about labour of love, that guy has modelled every last detail  8) wish he would release it soon and hope it fits in with the other two Grp C cars, even if we have to ballast them out a bit for BoP.

I actually found the mazdas tyre model more realistic than the c9's tbh, in terms of grip and feel and how they warm up, even though the c9 has the latest tyre model.

I tested some time ago 962 in Assetto, it has some graphics issues, but it was so funny. Hoping more Group C (Jaguar, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota...  ::)) to test these beast.

I really enjoyed race, Jeffrey was so quickly with turbo-boost, but 787 had a better race pace. I don't have a good qualy, in fact, my faster lap was around 2:11:0 and I couldn't achieve it. My start was awesome, and gratefully all people on the grid was so clean. I hope have good fights against you ;) A lot of funny seeing how the guy that start from boxes overtakes all of us ;D a little bit scared on Eau Rouge because difference of speed but all people was great. Then I managed my tyres (medium tyres), at lap 7 drops their performance, with the new tyre model doesn't happen this, tyres can perform around 1 seconds slower but tyre feels more grippy and has less performance lost. Actually, it's hard to have a BoP with these cars, because C9 is much much faster at straights, but 787 handles slight better and has a lot of downforce and corner speed.

Hoping more (sprint or endurance ???) Group C races, conglaturations for everyone :)

We all love you too Jeffrey!  ;)

I don't mind some different time of day settings, altough the low sun with these difficult beasts maybe made it a little too much? Heck in the first laps i hardly had time to take notice of my tires or lap times! Great looking and sounding cars these.
I believe the to be released 962 Porsche is from the same maker as the 787B and will get an update at the release of the 962!
Indeed the 917 looks brilliant too.

One of my Christmas pressies was a box set of the Group C racing from 83-90  8) not had a chance to start watching it all yet, but yes am a big fan so will definitely hope to run a series using these grp C cars in the near future. Will wait to see how the 962 fits in first. Of course we should also be getting that great looking grp 5 historic racing mod soon too  :o

What do you guys fancy for next week? Something easy or more challenging? I was thinking 70's F1 in the shape of the Lotus 72 v F312 at Brands hatch  O0

Not sure whats going on, its like AC makes my pedals extra sensitive ::) I guess its probably due to the pedal position app but still. I dont seem to suffer it in any other game to the same extent. I kinda get the brake pedal, with limited movement on it, it can spike a bit but then its also the accel will bounce when lifting off so end up ploughing on into the corners.

Did a few laps of R3E straight after and though the brake will still come on i didnt think the accel was as bad.  I dont think AC has the same level of options to try and tune it out.

have you run the actual calibration procedure under AC's controls screen? at the top right. Even if you ran it a while back, its worth running again in case any of the updates (windows, logitech or Kunos) have fubared it.

While maybe not one for next week have you tried the trucks yet?
Once you get used to the solid axle they're great fun, I imagine a decent grid would be hilarious at a track like Brands Indy  ;D

Scroll down through this lot and you'll find Merc and a Volvo Formula truck models - As they aren't limited to 100mph I'll guess they're from a German/Euro series.
Lots and lots of fun  ;D

They're from the Brazilian series, imaginatively called Formula Truck: http://www.formulatruck.com.br/ The models come from the Reiza game, titled the same: http://gameformulatruck.com/en/

Never tried them. Looks like a lot of sliding and door to door racing. If that is the case, i would surely want to give it a go.

"Met de vlam in de pijp,...!"  ;D

Good morning lads. I will start practicing the Lotus 72 v F312 @ Brands hatch tonight then?!  ;)

Btw, had a couple of AI races lined up for my boy to try racing with a proper game and a wheel. How horribly SP is still... Weird behaviour from AI, lap count/position wrong after about 6 laps.
I think i will buy Race07 instead for him to do a career mode against AI... Stupidly these new games can't handle it. Sorry rant over.

Not had a chance to put anything together. As usual, got no feedback when I made a suggestion (except from Stefan) so hardly motivates me to spend my own time setting something up  ::)
I haven't checked the stats of the f312 v the t72 so I don't know if they are wildly different? If close enough is like to give the option of both though both cars are so cool we could do the lotus at brands then the Ferrari at an Italian track next week?  :-\

No reaction is good right, the moaners are the loudest .

Stick to 1 car choice per race, easier to set up, and closer grid with few people.

It's not a democracy MJ, you pick and choose and we'll race. Not sure I driven either car your suggesting and I've no time practice so there is no way I can comment. Pick what you like and over time you'll see what is popular or not and then you can pick those that are if you want large grids. Simples ;)

Point taken Pete, I'm trying to find common ground and encourage more drivers so always surprised at lack of comment or feedback, good or bad!

So Rufs at Brands it is  ;D

 ;)

Let's try the fab Lotus 72 first, at Brands hatch  8)

lotus 72 is good, but I thought maybe we could use a mod track.

this is one is laser-scanned and also a fun lay-out.

Fun races and add-on tracks are a bad combo IMO, makes easy joining just that bit harder that it might put people off. Also, Lotus fits a bit better with a British track :).

He's done a good job on modding that track and one to consider for a future event. :) But bit late notice for all to learn a new track and car this time.
