Title: UKGPL Season 29 (2015-16) Works Trophy (67) - Sandown - Jan 24
Post by: Robert Fleurke on January 18, 2016, 04:19:35 PM +0000
Season 29 Works Trophy - Round 07 - Sandown

Sandown International Raceway is a motor racing circuit in Melbourne, Victoria, approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) south east of the city centre. Sandown is considered a power circuit with its "drag strip" front and back straights being 899 and 910 metres long respectively.

Sandown was first built as a horse racing facility, dating back into the 19th century, but closed in the 1930s in a government run rationalisation program. Redevelopment began not long after World War II. A bitumen motor racing circuit was built around the outside of the proposed horse track (which was not completed until 1965) and was first opened in 1962 and held the race which became the Sandown 500 for the first time in 1964. The circuit hosted its first sprint round in 1965.

Please install the graphics update for this track, found here (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=7739&#entry72139). It might fix screenfreezes.

The servers need to be installed with a patch, the direct link to the (server) patch is here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3551334/GPL-Stuff/tracks/dedsvr_Sand68_addon.zip). I will PM both Axel and Jethro for them to install it, to fix screenfreezes.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=511&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=511&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

GPL crashed... Up till that point it was pretty interesting. Though this track fits rather smaller cars.

I had no problems, have you installed the fix?

For me there was no grid slot, so I had to start from the pits 1 lap down.
Nice little battle with Greg til I spun in T1 and made esc to not bother the following ...

Was trying to stay out of you but couldn't, silly impatient move.

Sorry guys, should have changed the schedule in hindsight. Hoped the update and serverpatch would fix things. That said can't remember having screenfreezes here but it doesn't help the others that suffered from it.

I take full responsibility and you can blame me for pushing this race through...

Mea culpa re: grid slots, my "loose" grid looked OK at first glance. Teaches me to measure twice, cut once, even when time restricted.

I made it as far as the quick grass before the Dunlop bridge, then flipped.

Big Grats RF  :D ...DY & A  :thumbup2:

RF: Whatever your excuse, it was your day & drove great (whatever you today had a better car...ohh, you know that on GeLi, you don't say Grats to the winner if he is in a better car...& they call themselves Gentlemen  ::))
No problems here with CTD, downloaded Sandown from post #1...no update.

Downturn for the Danish TEAM-GTLDK (ended 7 & 8 ) but a little fun, we scored the most points in the championship ;) Edit: Oops, only second best

From start to crash, I had a really enjoyable race  8)... just behind DY in 23 laps. Fake little I will overtake, but for some reason...the car would not stop & I'm stuck in a bale of straw. Really great DY you could keep a cool head with a screaming McHonda in the a.. .

PA: Next time...maybe we choose car, completely yourself  ;D

Grats Rob, clearly the best man out there! I don't think there's any need for you to take blame for the disco's, it's computers and sometimes these things happens.. The track itself was a good challenge though I wouldn't say it's optimal for racing/battling..

Having saved up tokens with my BRM on Rouen I have ferrari's lined up for the rest of the races, but the track considered I was contemplating making a last minute switch to a Cooper so I could run Eagle for the last 3, but teamboss Pelle wanted a Podium  ::)  :P so I stuck with the ferrari, something I still think was the right choice as I had a quite decent run until I ended up crashing out midrace as the weightshift in the last corner caught me out in a moment of lacking concentration and I hit the bridge and ended up tipping as I slided into the hay.. too bad as it looked like a sure 2nd place and I just had to take it home, Rob was long gone with both impressive speed and stability, as usual one might say.. Clearly my night out on saturday coming home 6 in the morning didn't help my effort in this race, but I just thought I'd bring in a little of that true oldschool formula 1 partyboy attitude to the scene.. didn't go well :-P

Very difficult race.
Only 4 finishers for 15 starters !

I had two major incidents, during the first or 2nd lap, I saw 2 cars colliding in front of me so I pushed hardly on the brakes and my Cooper spun and crossed the track. The following car, a Honda (Cookie ?) touched my Cooper. I had no problem to continue the race and I hope it was the same for the Honda ...

On lap 25 (around), I spun again and was blocked perpendicularly at the track and against the armco.
There was again a minor contact with a Honda and when I tried to rejoin the track, my engine exploded.

After 7 races, I am the only one to get points for ALL races ... It's my only reason to be proud in this championship.

It seems Jani, Greg and Bob had a freeze/disco at the same time. Not sure if I missed more, but it looks like the race result will stand.

Had a messy and difficult quali. Couldn't find a good gap and everytime I encountered incidents or traffic in my best laps. Got lucky with Pole, it was close. Was not happy with the time, more than .3s off my PR for the BT24...but that is racing ;)

In the race I had a good start, noticed Tris was gone (thought he discoed, but he short fueled). Immediatly had a little gap to Peter that I could increase slowly, and had a nice rhythm in the race running in the 6s. Pretty much uneventful race, apart from one lap after halfway, when David blocked the Peters (T2) exit, and later that lap Clive went off and tangled with Attilio towards Goodyear. Kept a cool head and didn't touch anyone, only lost 4s that lap.

Towards the end decided not to lap Doni and took it easy last 5 laps. Doni forgot to complete his last lap, thinking the checkered was for him. ;) Well done Doni, Attilio, and Clive. Commiseration to the retirements, especially Jani, Greg and Bob...

I'll try to be back down the road some with a proper report but a medical emergency with the good wife yesterday has priority.  Things better today but I've got to watch her like a hawk sizing up a field mouse.  Will I have to plan dinner?  OMG!

;)

...a medical emergency with the good wife yesterday...

The good one, huh? Better take care of her then, ignore the rest for now. Didn't know you were posting from Bountiful, beautiful area.

I kid (and the grammar nazi in me doesn't need much to get going  ;) ). Best wishes sent.

Congrats Rob, Doni, Attilio!

Screen freeze shortly after Axel fell behind. I could have used more BRM practice. No worries though Rob. At least I didn't take the Ferrari. And since I didn't install the patch I may only have myself to blame. I've raced here at least a few times and never discoed/screen freeze, but I've seen plenty others do so. :(

I was getting into to it in qualifying. I was so engrossed I drove until time ran out without realizing it. I reached for a drink of water and my cup was empty. I went to refill it and I missed the start by a second. Just as I got the cursor to the green button, it disappeared. :( Axel was unfortunate to start from the pits too but at least we had each other to race and we got on track at the back of the pack. So there was still plenty of fun to be had.

I hope your wife recovers quickly Doni, so both of you feel better.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the kind words, chaps.  :)

I neglected to mention that I had to ship her to hospital that afternoon but with her record of serious to the point of life-threatening blood clotting issues known, the staff fast-tracked her with tests and cleared her with some up-gunned medications.  We were back home within four hours of the issue commencing.

She's feeling better but I'm still very much monitoring the situation.  My two teen-aged boys DID suffer through my efforts at preparing dinner.  Poor buggers.  ;)
