Title: UKGPL Season 29 (2015-16) Works Trophy (67) - Bathurst - Mar 20
Post by: Robert Fleurke on February 29, 2016, 05:29:59 PM +0000
Season 29 Works Trophy - Round 10 - Bathurst, Mount Panorama

The final round of Season 29 will be held at the fantastic and challenging Bathurst circuit. Mount Panorama, Motor Racing Circuit Bathurst (also known as Wahluu by the Wiradjuri people, or often simply Bathurst) is a motor racing track located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. It is best known as the home of the Bathurst 12 Hour motor race, held each February, and the Bathurst 1000 motor race, held each October. The track is 6.213 km (4 mi) long, and is technically a street circuit, as the circuit is a public road when no racing events are being run, and there are many residences which can only be accessed from the circuit. The track is an unusual design by modern standards, with a 174-metre (570-foot) vertical difference between its highest and lowest points, and grades as steep as 1:6.13. From the start-finish line, the track can be viewed in three sections; the short pit straight and then a tight left turn into the long, steep Mountain straight; the tight, narrow section across the top of the mountain itself; and then the long, downhill section of Conrod Straight, and the turn back onto pit straight to complete the lap.

The honorable championship positions have been decided, but this will be a race many would like to win. Also it is expected that the current UKGPL laprecords will be broken.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=511&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sad way to end the season with a mutiple car shunt on lap 1. Much like the way the season began for me at Watkins Glen.

Nevertheless, many congrats to Rob for winning the championship in dominant style. I don't think there's been a season with such a strong field of drivers. To win one of the races this season is something I sure will cherish  :).

Also, many thanks for UKGPL for producing another season of enjoyment. Always a pleasure to race with you all chaps. Hope to see you and do battle next season  :).

Erm, nothing I can say guys, apart from sorry, I have taken quite a few people with me...As often this season I wasn't really there with my head, shouldn't have raced really. Will try to be in better shape and less of a liability next time I pop by to race. Again, apologies to all the ones who had their racing evening scuppered because of me  :(

We had a possible server crash. Also some issue with disco's in quali, then in race. We will try to have a re-run in two weeks, stay tuned.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

It took some very defensive driving to stay off you, before and through T1 Attilio.

I had a freeze myself in qually, just managed to join back in before the start.

Greg, I watched the replay, sorry for the start, you really had to think for me, as I lost track of both you and my breaking points at once... As I said, this was probably an evening to devote to the couch and some telly for me... :'(

On the up side, it was really good to see Andreas on the track, welcome back!  ;D ;D

I almost managed to stop before joining-in the fun that was the L1 melee...but not quite, then those behind did the same and I was flipped.  Shades of Watkins Glen, but hopefully I shouldn't be penalized this time  :P

Somewhat of a reprieve that the race will be re-run, but I am way off the pace even in my expensive Eagle.  I remember watching the Bathurst 1000 on telly in the 90s and had to smile a bit as I was blasting doon the roller coaster that is the Conrod straight, only I had no idea it undulated soo much.  Can someone generate us some Commodore skins in the next two weeks?  Or would that be a completely new mod?!

Cheers, Bob

Gents, apologies for the server hiccups, logs are not showing anything obvious. Due to the mass disco a re-run was the only option, so we're squeezing this in before Easter after the other races.

Was actually delighted to qualify last and keep out the way. As I told Baab my practice for this race was 4/5 laps in a GPL car, and 2 I did in a hire car on the real thing 18 months ago :-)

I was just here to check how my foot was doing, and it looks like there's still some way to go. It didn't cause me to crash tonight, I shall blame my own team mate for that...although I know it was really all my fault - two corners after I came across Baab recovering from an off I simply misjudged a corner following him. I clipped a rock and got bounced into the opposite wall and got charged a wheel for it. I wouldn't have lasted race distance anyway...

Well done to anyone that finishes. Connection looked pretty good tonight - there was one massive bump during qually, but apart from that no issues.

Hope to see you next season.

Arf

Hope you continue your recovery Arf  :).

Amazing what happens when the brain ponders for a minute, and not focusing on the track. The result is usually a crash, and that proved the case for me tonight. Good luck to all still running.

I can think of a better time for your Driving Force GT pedals to generate an almighty crack on the approach to a heavy braking zone. Closer inspection found a crack in the corner of one of the pedals, not a complete break like last time! Apologies to whomever I hit, I promise it wasn't intentional. Roll on season 30....

EDIT: Hey, how about that? Rob & Iestyn did exactly the same lap time to a thousandth of a second in completely different cars!

I was Baab you took out, I was lucky enough to be on the other side of the track else it'd have been me :-) I did think at the time that the incident required a spectacular level of incompetence or sheer bad luck, clearly the latter in this case. I've lost control of my car when the steering wheel lugs have come loose, or the ability to change gear when the shifter has fallen off the desk, so I sympathise :-)

Do you need to get a new set of pedals, or is it repairable?

Think it's repairable if I can find some araldite, at least not a total break in the joint like the last set of Logicrap pedals I had.

Couldn't get close to my PR in quali. Had a mechanical in a fast lap, and blew up later. Also some traffic and making mistakes left me with a still decent P2 tho...

Start was good, but Iestyn's wasn't, and that compromised Hell Corner exit for me running the wide line. Axel outdragged me and made a nice pass on the outside. I played safe at the inside. Followed Axel for a few laps, no way to pass for me, until he overcorrected out of Sulman Park. Could avoid him, and set my sights on Iestyn who was 2-3s up the road. Until he spun out braking for Murray's, we ran about the same pace. Could have been a good hunt/fight.

After that made quite some mistakes, got very lucky not rolling over at the Dipper  and Forrest's Elbow. To my standards I didn't drive well, I was very tired and lacked a good focus. Still late race put in a few good laps, and redeemed myself with a UKGPL Laprecord in the race. As Jethro said, it was the same time as Iestyn's Pole lap.

Sad to see so much attrition, but very happy for Bob's P2 and Dave's P3! :)

Thanks all for racing this Works season. :) Good continueing recovery Colin! ;) Thanks Jethro for server duties! :) Duct tape and glue are my tools to keep on using/recycling old hardware :P

Mod report is up. Even though I know some incidents haven't been reported, in general the standard was very high this season considering clean racing, in my opinion. There was the odd start crash at Watkins Glen, but most of the time there were great starts like at Monza.

The most bitter pills were the screenfreezes at Donnybrooke, and Sandown. I took too much risk in hindsight, and feel responsible for those track choices...

Thanks all for racing this season, and for making my job easy. Thanks to the mod team, and special thanks to Jethro, and Axel for serverduties and handling the results.

Well done to Pelle and Peter for championship podium; and their team for the championship! :)
