Title: UKGPL Season 29 (2015-16) Historic Trophy (66) - Adelaide - Mar 8
Post by: Phil Thornton on March 06, 2016, 10:52:34 PM +0000
Season 29 Historic Trophy - Round 10 – Adelaide

The last race of the season will take place Down-Under on the temporary street circuit at Adelaide, it hosted eleven Formula One Australian Grand Prix events from 1985 to 1995. Probably the most famous event was the culmination of the 1994 championship, between Damon Hill against Michael Schumacher. The title was settled in Michael’s favour following an incident which took both drivers out of the race.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

All races will be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/).

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

This race is for cars with 2 Litre engines.

It went good, but i was pushing too much; in the esses, i lost it and got stuck.
Glad you could avoid it Dean.

Managed to cobble together a last minute pole - and then did a Schumi '94 at turn one, hooking the inside kerb and spinning off to lose a tyre. I forgot to account for the race fuel load in 1st gear and bogged down at the start, before going in too tight to the esses, knowing Tris was ahead on my outside and had to turn in.. I should have backed off earlier and gotten in line behind him, as I see now that Clive had backed off and left a space :).

...i was pushing too much; in the esses, i lost it and got stuck...

That's a real danger spot at this track. It took losing a few races right there for me to learn.  ;)

As for my race, sorry for the early tap, Clive (good job on avoidance, those following). I planned to and did give the place back on the straight. The fact you were already past and outbraking me has nothing to do with it.

Some good scraps afterwards, but this track does punish. P2 was undeserved but I'll take it. Tim obviously didn't get my memo that said I needed to be two places ahead of Doni to take P3 back in the season standings grrrr.

Hi guys :)
Unfortunatly the site UKGPL was not accessible for pw, and I arrive late on track around 15mn to go on qualif......so no time to test the full tank , then I lost a little time on start and lost 2s on Tim ....so I push the little Lotus and  come back on his wheels after 5-6 laps .....and I push a little bit to hard on the engine who explose at lap 6......desapointed to don't finish the race but no incidence on the Champ, so , happy for the Champ 66 and ready for S30 !

WD Tim & podium :)

All of the drivers complied with the chassis selection rules for this round. I will wait one week to post the moderator's report.

Congratulations to Tim on the race victory and Dean for the place.  Good show, fellas.  Miles ahead of me.

Congratulations to Tris on our H66 Championship Title Winner with Tim the runner up.  That I managed a fluke P3 in the final tabulations is just that.  A fluke.  Poor Dean had fully four no scores.

I've been absent for a bit from this series as well as others at the UKGPL having suffered at the hands of a negligent and hardly truthful ISP.  This prompted an install of W10 in hopes of curing what I thought were computer issues but ultimately were determined to caused by my ISP.  Hardly impressed by them but it's water under the bridge now.

Yesterday's event marked my first attempt to get back into online racing.  I held my breath hoping for a solid connection and glory be!, it held.  There may be an issue or three to iron out with my GPL install + online racing but by and large, things look quite promising.

For qualifying, I just ran off a handful of laps to see how things shook out then promptly DQ'd myself to start at the back.  If I was going to have issues, best to be out of everyone's way.  After several laps of trailing Dave and gaining confidence, Dave gave me a wave-by.  TY, DR.  I had gained all manner of positions thanks to the misfortunes of so, so many to find myself well along early on.  Poor Izzy...  Then Bastian.  Clive spun and handed me a spot but I was in no way shape or form going to contest the position so promptly let him by.  I then had Andreas close in rapidly...he had been seriously delayed earlier in a contretemps with Clive and Dean...so again I pulled aside.  By this time, I had gained enough confidence in my situation to tag onto his tail and see how I fared.  I was just looking to see if I could hang on and assess the online quality.  As luck would have it, AG got a little behind in his steering through the difficult complex leading up to the end of the lap and lost time handing me the position.  With Tristan and Cookie's departures, I could hardly believe that I was on for a podium.  Fluke?  Most assuredly.  Tim caught and lapped me late in the going and Andreas came along with him to be only a couple of seconds down.  I suppose that I should be thanking my lucky stars that Tim did lap us both for if AG had another lap in hand to launch an attack, I almost certainly would have been bested.  I was getting a little fatigued by this point and didn't feel much like putting up a fight.  Fluke?  Fluke.
