Title: UKGPL Season 30 (2016) - CanAm 71 - Nassau Oakes Field - Apr 1
Post by: Cookie on March 31, 2016, 09:54:11 AM +0100
To have some fun with the fastest cars GPL has, we will do a mini Friday series with the CA71 mod.

During 1954 – 1966, the Nassau Speed Weeks were a high-octane end of season ‘play-off’
in the sun between Americans and Europeans – serious racing and even more serious partying!
1966 was to see the last of the Speed Weeks for the time being.

This track (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=11166) was created by Remy and Ginetto for the upcoming CanAm 66 mod ::)

Free car choice and no restrictions, but try to drive like gentlemen and let's all have fun!

No practice, no setup, still pulling my chair into position as the green flag drops... and yeah bassackwards in T2. Fell further and further behind as I struggled to remember which way the track went, let alone wrestling such a touchy beast around a track where even slightly putting a wheel off has you mired in cludge. Not a good game plan. Got down into the 16's, was hoping to maybe catch up to someone to have a bit of fun, but checked prib and everyone's gone, except Axel (who'd lapped me by that point) and Dave, so when I ran out of fuel  that was all.

Dean, you did a nice time with the 917 for someone without practice and setup  :thumbup1:

For me, it was a good race with a very pleasant 712 to drive.
Pity, there were not more drivers at the start.

About the Ferrari 712, I do not understand with why the rear wings is so curved in GPL and not straight like it is in this (nice) picture.

Sorry I missed it. CA71 races are rare online so I like try to make most of them.

Nice picture Dave.

This has been my desktop picture for weeks now.

I strayed this week and I've been driving the WSC70 mod for GTR2. I installed Monza that is supposed to be converted from GPL. If anybody is interested here's some times I posted. I found it interesting to compare to my GPL times.

917K - 1:24.3, it's a somewhat difficult car to drive well but very fast. 1:22.428 with GPL's Ferrari 712 and 1:22.981 with GPL's 917.

512S Coda Lunga - 1:23.8, this car drives well at Monza67.

Alfa Romeo 33/3 - 1:27.4, almost identical to my Lotus 49 PB in GPL. It drives decent.

312P - 1:28.0 , almost identical to my 67 312 time. This car is very difficult to set up and drive.

908-3 - 1:31.0, I can't seem to set this car up or drive it well. Or maybe it's just incredibly slow compared to the others.

Plus to compare one of the original GTR2 cars to the mod, I did 1:24.1 with a 2004 Ferrari 575GTC. It's impressive doing 170+ mph/275 kmh through Curva Grande. :)

I also did a lap of Nurburgring in a 1970 Datsun 240Z, 8:49. I don't have the specs on this car but I suspect it has more power than a 150hp stock engine.

That's the first time I've driven any sim other than GPL since 2011. It's nice to have a few more cars to drive that interest me.

I've been interested in the P&G mod for a few years. I didn't get it installed correctly yet. So far GPL seems significantly better. Learning to set up the car better and better FF settings, I hope it will get closer to GPL.

The few laps I do with the GTR2 mods will usually be with a GPL track in a similar year of car from what's available in GPL. I can't see it ever replacing racing GPL online for me.
