Great turn out and some great racing then some not great racing  :( Sorry Andreas, my fault. I checked my mirrors to see if you were still in one piece but I think you had lost a wheel at least. I pushed on but my heart was not in it so I pulled over. Good luck to those still running and sorry again Andreas.

I had to retire from P5 with camshaft troubles... Up till that point it was great, and it looked more fun for the rest of the race. So it's a pity I had to give up.

Congrats to the winner in advance :)
Thanks all for the race.

Surprised to start NOT at the back of the grid.
Tried a few cars but the BT24 was the only one that didn't melt the tyres.
Had some good racing with Andreas & David but got preoccupied watching the tyre temps & blew the engine about Lap 14.

 :-[ :-\ Yikes, I knew I didn't like the Honda, but I didn't think I'd dislike it enough to take out two Honda's in 2 laps :-O
SORRY Muttram and Pelle, though I decided to try and be on edge with the BRM, taking out two people was not part of my plan!
Very embarrased  :-\

Missed Greg on the grid. Also many seem to think they are fast Works drivers, considering the car choices...

Started from Pole, had a decent start, but Axel's was better. Still had the preferred line and position, but at the backstraight once again watching the mirrors too long made me miss my marker, and Axel could get past before the last turn.

Sadly after a few laps Axel blew up, tough luck...I don't think I could have gotten past him on merit, especially considering the handy Cosworth power on the backstraight. Anyway after that Clive was trying to hang on to the pace, but at some point lost some time and eventually had to settle for 3rd. Tim did a remarkable job and recovery back to second with great pace in the Honda!

Well done guys, and finishers...

The chassis restriction was partly to make sure we did not have s grid full of Lotus & Eagles. I have been impressed by the number of drivers who have taken the more difficult cars & still achieve quick lap times. Also there have been fewer Privateer standard drivers than expected.
I hope the fastest drivers continue with the gentlemans agreement to take a voluntary handicap, otherwise there will now be no chassis restriction for the rest of this series. Lets see if we can stop the Coopers winning.

There was a time a few years ( OK many years !!) back when I might have considered myself "fast". These days I have to rely on failures ahead to pick up any chance of a podium. lol!!

Anderstorp was one of those where I benefitted from the early problems of other drivers to find myself behind Robert and running in 2nd. I was able to hold onto him ( just) for several laps and things only went wrong when I got over confident and tried to close the last 100mtr gap and challenge him. It appears that I had already been running on the edge of my ability  ::) and a couple of mistakes allowed Robert to escape.

Lately we have seen a group of drivers in GPL that are definitely possessing some extra terrestrial DNA and are able to lap at WR pace for a whole race, if not for a whole season!!.
Robert, Greg, Tim, Pelle, Ronnie, Dean, plus a few others, are all capable of some seriously fast times in any car. Tim showed his pace after his early off and relentlessly closed the gap. I had opted for the Cooper just for fun as I have not used that car much over the years. I was surprised by how slow it felt and yet how fast the lap times were, maybe with a bit more development on the setup I might get closer to Robert's times...but I doubt it!!

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE POST ON ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT THE JSMT TROPHY PRESENTATION AND A SUGGESTION FOR A UKGPL GET TOGETHER.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the level of competition is great for UKGPL. It can only attract the fastest drivers to join us and try their skills against "the best".
The almost full grids for the JSMT is good to see, but it would be nice to see some more Privateer level drivers taking part.

Yes I know...

But I would never call me a real works driver, up to now I am still learning how to set up and handle those 67 beasts.

Some of the Privateers have way more routine in driving them.
Regarding the times set by the real fast drivers, my choice was about right...

My lack of experience was paid with a broken Lotus 49 engine after a few laps ::)
Maybe a Ferrari would have been a better choice...

Maybe specifying "Fast drivers" as something like "top 5 in works championship and top 3 in privateers" (just an example), would help make the choice for people.. I've honestly never considered myself "Fast", more like "Consistent", but considering my champ. position I thought I would count as such..

This race I found to be very tough indeed. Never quite got on top of the Honda this round (then again normally I never do.. ::)).

Despite my lack of pace, I was a very entertaining race. Spent most of my race battling with what felt like half the field. It was only due to the misfortune of several others that I managed to bag a lucky 6th place. Congrats to Rob, Tim & Clive for brilliant pace up front.

As for my car preference, it's purely down to the fact that taming that Honda is a real challenge in my hands at least. Call me masochistic, but it's all good fun  :).

I first decided to ignore the incredibly old Honda setup already in the folder for this one, as the naming convention lead me to believe it dated right back to when I first joined UKGPL in about season 16 - as my style has changed wildly since then I plumped for a much more recent Albi setup and spent 20 minutes tweeking that and working out the fuel burn. I think I had it down to about a 1:38 with very good traction out of the corners and equally good brakes, but terrible mid corner understeer and slow-corner turn-in/grip.
I thought 'what the heck' and tried the ancient setup instead - On the first flying lap it took a second off my previous best!  :o
A few choice mods to bring it up to speed further and correct a few issues I felt it had and I ended up with my race setup. It feels very close to how I had the RA272 behaving on Tuesday so with a little more time available could possibly have even allowed me to challenge Rob....

As to the race I'm not sure if I should buy Gizmo a beer or throw it at him!  ;D
I haven't checked if Roberts average lap was near to his best or not, but even if it wasn't quite there I doubt I could have stayed with him till the end or even less beaten him without some mechanical 'help' (I.e. the Glutbuckets). This would have given me a very boring race if Clive hadn't managed to hold on..
Getting knocked down to dead last did result in my race being far more interesting than it might otherwise have been!
I think it took me 9 or 10 chaotic laps to regain 3rd, followed by another 10 lonely ones of steadily closing the gap to Clive.

I calculated that I would probably be on him with 2 or 3 to go if he didn't speed up. As I closed to within 5 seconds he did, and held me there for about 3 laps before I guess he made a mistake and fell off.

Quite a lucky 2nd really, had I found myself behind Iestyn or Pelle ( they were both in the shrubbery when I caught them) I would have had a far harder time as they were both fast enough to very likely hold me off...

Well done Robert on a very commanding win, and to Clive and all others who reached the finish  :)

I will take BRM for the rest of the JSMT. It would be fun if more ppl get in the mix and have a chance to win the Trophy. It's a shame to me Greg couldn't make this race as well. In hindsight I should have taken the BRM all the way.

You guys know me, I like to win. But I can very much appreciate being beaten as well, especially by guys who do not win often, or by simply being outraced/outpaced...

To be honest, I had done another 45min leaguerace before this, and was quite knackered. I simply had to manage the pace to get to the finish. Felt for Axel, had hoped he could lead all the way, not to say I would have given the win to him, but he surely would have had the pace and car to hold me off....

Thanks to all competing for the JSMT keeping Joe's remembrance alive!

About as funny as the Season 28 Works race at Zandvoort I would guess . Sorry again Andreas.

Hehe, yeah I hear you, maybe I should buy You a beer and then you can throw it at me ;-)
But I'm glad you had fun and I was kind'a pleased to see you go by after one of my many mistakes.. I saw Pelle closing in on me later and thought that maybe somehow my soul would be saved if I let him by, but something happened to him and suddenly it was Iestyn who was closing the gap with laps counting down.. So I guess I'm still going to hell  ::)
