Title: UKGPL Season 30 FUN - CanAm66 - Riverside - Apr 15
Post by: Cookie on April 10, 2016, 05:16:20 PM +0100
CanAm 66 Funrace at Riverside 1966

To have some fun with the newest cars GPL has, we will do a Friday fun series with the CANM66 mod.

The Riverside track in  California was in operation from September 22, 1957, to July 2, 1989. The original course design proved to be dangerous, and it was partially reconfigured in 1969. The track was built to accommodate several different configurations, depending on the type of car and race length. The three options on Riverside Raceway were the long course, the short course and a NASCAR course. When the track was redesigned in 1969, Turn 9 was reconfigured with a wider radius and a dogleg approach added to reduce strain on the cars' brakes.

This 1966 version has the original Turn 9 and no dogleg in the backstraight.

Free car choice and no restrictions, but try to drive like gentlemen and let's all have fun!

I downloaded the mod Canam66 this morning.
It looks very nice, cars are beautiful and easier to handle than 71's, sounds are great, and Ai are way better than for Canam71.

Thanks for the Genie set-up, T. Much friendlier than my efforts. I copied it over to the Lola Chev 333 and immediately put in a 45 flat, but the rear was super twitchy again. Any idea on how to counter that? Have tried more rear RB like you suggested, but it's not helping much. Any chance you've done setups for the other cars?

I have setups like that for all the cars, meet me in chat :) .

I think you need more front roll bar (instead of rear) in combination with more rear toe-in :) .

Tommie.

Beatiful to view also my work in the first official race but the race start bad......with the explosion of the engine on the start line. After this the wall have stopped my race.
The track is not easy(for me) and i don't know if i have found a good set-up.Anyway this mod need the virtual mirror ,otherwise is a problem to view the other cars.

Still learning, had some fun but tyres started overheating.  Well done Axel.

Great fun. Lost 6 seconds when I found a false neutral behind Tommie and it locked the rear axle. But for that, I could have been pressuring Axel before the last lap, but I'm sure he was just managing his pace to the end. Last lap was fun, he pulled away in the twisty bits, and I couldn't catch up enough on the straight in the big block Lola. 207mph top speed in the draft ;D

From my running, it seems the big block Lola was about 1.4 seconds slower than the 359, if that helps. M1B and Chap 1-3 tenths behind the 359.

I must have missed something somewhere about the new 66 Can Ams.........where do I get the download??   and are there any issues with loading it??

Also if Tommie has some base line setups that he is willing to share, that could save me a lot of wasted time  ;)

Yes Clive ;D

Look at SRMZ (http://srmz.net/index.php?s=bf9ddefb34127fd40a516108602e47b3&showtopic=11338)
Get it here (http://canam66.gplworld.de/)  ;)

Great fun driving these cars 8)
I had perfect tyre temps all over the race...

To get them to your taste just make a setup like the sport cars.
I prefer stiffer roll bars f+r and shocks f 3/5 r 6/6.

For those who have not visited the California desert, you've come close to it at this track.  With the high skill level of all our racers these days, I was surprised the track was only half full.  Even so, it looks like the carsets heavy load may have made my car warp somewhat.  Can someone confirm seeing my helmet darting about a bit?

Some close competition towards the tail for a time, until a concrete clump caused a large bump, from which I failed to recover.

Martin, you are running a different version of the track. I saw your car crabbing and racing peculiar lines. I'd advice to reinstall the track :) .

Could be I'm running a late beta.  I've several installs, and might not yet have updated this one.  St. Jo caused serious warp at 60fps with fewer cars, so further testing needed.  I recommend more come test their machinery, before a championship gets under way.

No need to cancel a championship because you didn't update the track  :P . Cookie and the funliga have been testing the mod online for an entire year, it's solid. No need to trouble the waters.

Here are some baseline setups I made. I was hoping they could be promoted to the mod's default setups, but they got replaced. Ah well  . Because of the big V8's I have to use much more forward brake bias, and I pushed them even more forward in these setups to support the whole 'get in and drive' idea I was going for. I tried to make them as safe and predictable as I could, without introducing terminal understeer. I hope they are of any help :) .

Please give me your feedback if the cars are right mapped,
as I can't get the real names out of GPLRA ::)

Downloaded the Can AM 66 mod yesterday and installed it. All appeared OK, but I cannot seem to find the .exe file for this??

I use Gem to manage all the various mods we now have in GPL and yet I cannot get it to work. Ran out of time yesterday to try and work this one out, so thought I would ask if anyone else had experienced problems.???

Tom VO, Thanks for the setups !

About the race, my setup was very bad (it was before I downloaded TVO's) and the race was difficult. Then I was rear ended by Dean, again (like I was in Borovaya) ...
The old Romans said "bis repetita placent" but I do not agree !

Just making sure, did you add the CANM66 carset in GEM and then execute GPL? The exe is called then gplm66.exe

PS: thanks Tommie for setups, will check out some ;)

Congrats Axel, Iestyn, and Tommie!

I thought I could handle Axel with his 450hp. :) But as he often does, he makes me regret I didn't use a higher powered car. 500hp may have been enough but 465 sure wasn't.

That was fun guys. Later I realized I was using too much tire pressure. I think I may have fixed it where I don't start losing a lot of grip after a few laps.

Thanks guys.

Yes, the ChapE should not be underestimated by his lack of power and 2 gears as it has the best handling ;D

This is the metric setup I used

and in non metric ::)

Thanks Axel! Wow, 50 % brake bias!  :o . You are good on the brakes! The rest seems similar to what I'm using, except roll bar values. I'm running about half that, I need the feedback to feel what the car is doing, but it can make the car more twitchy.

Can you change the Lola Ford 305 tires to Goodyear? Dan Gurney's All American Racers was sponsored by Goodyear so he ran with those tires. The Pacesetter team with the McLaren-Elva Mk 2 was also running Goodyear. Although many other Mk 2's ran Firestone, it might be fun to mix the listing up a little. Just a suggestion though :) :) .

Tommie.
