Post by: Robert Fleurke on May 11, 2016, 08:46:25 PM +0100
Season 30 - Works Trophy

The division specific rules are mostly the same as last season. Works will run separately from the Privateers on Pro damage model. There is no direct handicap, other than tokens.

Please check the Season 30 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=540&theme=6) regarding rules and the Works Trophy pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=548&theme=6) in particular.

This season, races are to be run again at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/) Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score points but tokens are earned for making a race start.

Handicapping.
The 67 series will continue to use tokens, although this is not a form of handicapping.
In the interest of having a competitive championship the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability, from Race 1. If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid,  finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you should be not be taking a faster car.
The championship will be reviewed after Race 3. Drivers may then be allocated to one of the following handicap groups
Group 1 BRM, Honda, or Cooper,
Group 2 as above + Brabham
Group 3 as above + Ferrari

There is no red zone for this championship. Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents do carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Good luck with the new handicapping.

Bearing in mind:-

1. You have not specified who is a faster driver?
2. Or specified what a fast car based on ability is?
3. That the above is only a request and voluntary anyway?
4. That there will be a review after Race 3 when you might allocate drivers to one of three groups of cars?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Also I'm sure its just a coincidence that Monaco and Jarama are the first two races where its highly unlikely people will be spending lots of tokens anyway ::)

Can you give us some idea what the penalties, if any, are for people who either deliberately or unwittingly ignore the above voluntary requests or their allocated car group later on?

...Handicapping...

Was not discussed in its own pre-season thread, as I'd have expected a subject of such import to be?

Quote
...the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability...

As you've always been welcome to, and I expect many have (looking at Greg, Evil, Ray, and TvO among the regulars who finished last season with an unused Lotus or more in hand).

Quote
...If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid, finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you...

"Would get bored and self-handicap". Problem solved.  :D

I'm against mandatory handicapping in any series, but this one especially, as it is the trophy I'd like most on my shelf, and this would cheapen it (the fact it's never going to happen doesn't make my point irrelevant ;)).

In hindsight I should have created another poll for it. The mods have discussed eventual handicapping for 67s, and finally the decision has made to do this, also giving Billy (S30 67s moderator) some freedom how to handicap...
