HANDICAPPING
The tokens system remains for all drivers.
In the interest of having a competitive championship the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability, from Race 1. If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid,  finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you should be not be taking a faster car.
The championship will be reviewed after Race 3. Drivers may then be allocated to one of the following handicap groups
Group 1 BRM, Honda, or Cooper,
Group 2 as above + Brabham
Group 3 as above + Ferrari

Until the number of registered drivers exceeds grid capacity drivers may join the server as soon as it appears in IGOR.

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Good to see there is interest in making a handicap, to make the racing competitive for all.  ;) Having 2 grids, for faster and slower helps in this.  Handicap Groups 2 and 3 here, will make almost no difference to the championship.  Having 10 tokens to spend, allows the Brabham to be used every race.  So, less choice only.

Giving less tokens makes life more complicated.  Group 1 handicap only, is good IMHO.

I have copied a post here from the Privateers race -
I need to explain the handicap in more detail. It is difficult to set a handicap before knowing which drivers are going to participate regularly. The tokens system remains so nobody will be able to use the Lotus or Eagle for more than a few races. For races 1, 2 and 3 there is a voluntary handicap. The fastest drivers are requested to take a car which is suitable for their ability compared to other drivers. It won't be perfect but it should mean the series is more competitive for everyone. After three races if it is clear that faster drivers are leading the championship by taking better cars then there will be a compulsory handicap for them. If someone starts off in the BRM and is not competitive they can take a faster car next time.  We have a regular community of drivers at UKGPL and I am hoping the drivers will police themselves. The system of voluntary handicaps worked quite well in the Joe Shaw trophy with different winners for every race.

Babying the Maserati around at the back of the field, and it still blew up. Short of the points, too. >:(

Hmm, not a good showing for my trusted laptop. Shut itself off, probably overheating, and am wondering just how hard I can push it this season...

Dean, tuppence I know, but it's apparently quite easy to blow that Maserati in GPL. Not entirely sure why.

Crap!  :-X

Happy about a Cooper/Monaco PB that put me 2nd on the grid after Greg..

Managed to overtake Greg in quite cool little duel, was then able to pull ahead, but just as I saw on the pitboard that Greg had suddenly lost 10 secs.. I graze the harbour-chicane, left front goes off while in the hay going down the harbour straight.. race over  :-\

Grats to the winner, commiseration to the non-finishers (like me  ::) )

That was a damn good effort to finish the race. From the Cooper's perspective, not mine  ;D. Considering the abuse I gave the car it's a bloody miracle I finished.

It all went to pot on lap 2 when I got a bit too close to Doni at Loews Hairpin and the resulting warp turned the light contact into an air-borne shunt. Thankfully we could both continue on our merry way after that calamity. The engine felt a bit down on power after that, which may have been a blessing in disguise given the tight nature of this circuit. I was driving steadily, losing a few tenths to Doni every lap, gaining positions after the misfortune of others until I came across Marco to lap at the worst place on the circuit; the chicane.

Marco made a hash of the chicane and I blindly copied  ::), hitting the hay-bales with considerable force. To my great surprise, the car still had all four wheels attached, even if it did feel very odd to drive. By this point, I drove very steadily to the finish, not wanting to have another lucky escape.

Congrats to Doni for the win and commiserations to Greg for having it in the bag until the last lap. See you all next round  :).

Congrats Doni, Sam, and Ray! To finish first, you first have to finish.

My head wasn't really in it. That didn't have much effect on my early woes though. I was struggling on cold tires and trying too hard at times. Nice pass by Peter! I started thinking if don't get it together soon Axel's going to pass me too.

With lots of slow laps and a few spins, Peter should have beaten me severely. I couldn't believe in ended up in the lead on the very lap I thought would show me if I might gain any on Peter. I kept screwing up, keeping Doni close. Finally I ran several decent laps and opened a good gap to Doni and then I clipped the curb in the tunnel and spun again. I had to come to a stop on one fastest sections of track.

The only thing I did well for most of the race was I avoided any contact except for grazing the wall inside of Tabac once. Then I turned into a complete idiot and brake late for St. Devote on the last lap. A slow slide into the outside wall removes my rear wheel and it's over. I should have slowed down on the last lap.

Peter looked good in the Cooper. Only because of his wreck, and Iestyn, Rob, Bob, Clive and Attilio's absence did I have a shot at a lucky win. Plus Sam and Pelle drove slow cars. Even with my dumbass move, I finished higher than I should have. I guess I didn't want to feel I should drive the Cooper unless I want to. :) A win and I would feel obligated to drive one of the slower cars.

Thanks guys. It was good fun.

Oops! I almost forgot Tommie. He would have whipped my arse good too with a Cooper or anything better. :)

Grats Doni for the win, and Sam and Ray for podium! :) Another heartbreak for Greg :(

Had a terrible headache yesterday, and did a start and park for some tokens (that I won't need anyway this season).

Had a terrible headache yesterday...

Same here, had a migrane before, that left a bad headache.

So I started the race until I spun at tabac where I left to not cause a melee.

Good thing was my PB, that bettered my rank -3.5 sec ;D

Luck always plays a part in any contest and I certainly had it at Monaco.  Poor Greg had this in his back pocket til...  Gis and Cookie, too, came to grief.  And Sam could have just as easily headed me, too.  Sorry to read the Robert was unwell and that Cookie, too, was not tops.

I've always considered myself as a spear carrier and certainly not in the upper echelon of GPL runners.  Sort of like my early heroes when I was first introduced to F1 through the pages of Road & Track magazine way back in '62.  Guys like Bob Anderson and Carel Godin de Beaufort.  Underdogs.  And I'll always cheer them.  When things broke their way at places like Monaco, they could score the odd point.  To come through with a win was just not in the cards, I suppose, so for me to score is nirvana.

Got in a pretty reasonable lap in qualifying to start P5 especially considering that my G25 controller has been ill-tempered since the middle of the week.  It's just not performing at all well with goofy settings now seemingly irrerversable despite much time spent trying to sort it.  From other sources, I understand that many last week started experiencing hitherto unwanted changes to settings rendering their Logitech units something less than satisfactory.  I'll continue to try and sort the gremlins.

Sam gave me a boost...:)...on Lap02 but I managed to maintain control and proceed.  Within a few laps, I managed to break free from Sam's attentions and shortly, both Cookie and Gismo suffered shunts.  I wasn't far behind Greg at one point as he suffered an off and I tried to hold the gap as best as possible but around Lap20, I started to make small errors and decided to throttle it back with the goal to cruise to an easy P2.  Imagine my shock when I saw yellow flags waving for St. Devote to start the last lap.  Whom could this be?  Greg was way up the road at this point.  Nah...  Couldn't be...

I took the checker and parked going to the menu.  ZUT ALORS!!!  The marshals were signalling that it was, indeed, Greg who shunted off to start that last lap and he was a DNF.  I won?  I...I won???  LOL!  I felt like Alexander Rossi!  :)
