Season 30 - Fun - Sport Cars - Le Mans

Ginetto made a disco fix for the beloved LeMans (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=6222&st=15#entry119378) track!
Let's test it with the sport cars...

Most famous race in the world is probably the 24hours at Le Mans. It has also hosted several Grand Prix including the first ever - the French Grand Prix of 1906. The Grand Prix name ("Great Prize") referred to the prize of 45,000 French francs to the race winner. The franc was pegged to the gold at 0.290 grams per franc, which meant that the prize was worth 13 kg of gold!

You have free car choice and no limit shift+r

Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 27-05-2016
GPL mod = SC
60fps patch used = 60fpsV1
Track dir = bsarthe (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Tracks/)
Qualification = 20:45  UK time -> 45min
Race = race starts at ~21:30 UK time
Race length = ~45 min -> 16 laps
Damage Model = INT
Replay = you will get here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/nu4gyr)

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.
Using the "no letterbox" patch makes chat messages in car obsolete, so you better uncheck it in GPL options ;)

GLA and have FUN

This track has a new shortcut!  It's the green letters at the top of the announcement.  It's for a different patch to fix the disco problem.  It would be good if all shortcutters use it, to make test 2 a good 1.  :angel:

I just picked it up, Martin.  Hope it helps turn this iconic circuit into a dream, not a nightmare.

I can't join the server.

Tried the normal practise password and the one shown.

The server uses "60fpsV1" as written in IGOR comments for training, as it avoids guys joining with 36fps  ;)

Sorry for the butt-ram on the Mulsanne, Dave.  You lifted a touch earlier than I anticipated and a harsh move on the steering wheel at the crest would have doomed me.

I did not disco, but had a bad attack from the brake lock bug.  They become worse in Summer, so I decided to cut my rearward racing short.  :-\

Congrats Axel!  That was a really great fight.  Shame I lost but I feel good cause it was a great battle.  I got a screen freeze in qualifying so not sure if patch has worked.

I went off on lap one at the end of the Mulsanne and had to hustle a bit to get back to the lead pack.  By the time I got back to second Axel had got a long way away, but as I went down the Mulsanne I picked up a tow even though I couldn't see him.  I had the Ferrari geared to do 200 mph by itself but I was getting about 204 or so.  Then the next lap I could only get 199.  Next time same thing, and I thought maybe I had engine problems!  Then Axel must have had a bit of a slide or something because as we came out of Tetre Rouge I was closer, and I could see the 2F in the distance, and I saw he was on the right side of the track!  That was why the draft hadn't been working ;)

Anyway, I caught up and we had a brilliant fight, passing and repassing lap after lap.  Second to last lap Axel passed me into Mulsanne but I could stay alongside and get a better exit - we went side by side into the start of Indianapolis and at the left hander I could see a big hole on the inside to dive into but I thought no wait, leave it to the last lap.  So last lap, same thing, and as we came into Indianapolis there's the hole, and I dived in with both feet, got a great run out and I thought that's it, I've won!  I braked hard into Arnarge and somehow, don't know how, Axel came charging up the inside and managed to brake and turn the car on the inside line!  Amazing move.  He got the run out of there and I couldn't get him back.  Tried to fling the car through the last corner but got too much grass and spun.  Anyway, good stuff.

Congrats Axel, Mark, and Dean.

I rarely drive the Mk4 so I thought I'd give it a try. I practiced several laps the prior weekend. Once I was on the server I thought I should have chosen a slower car. Then I thought I might do a pitstop at the midpoint. Then I just decided that I probably can't get away from Mark and Axel as long as they get a tow off me, so it doesn't matter if I have the fastest car here.

That was some good practice. I set my qualifying time without a tow, definitely my fastest lap yet without one. I think there's a possibility to lower it another second without the tow, but that would take at least an hour or two more practice.

I got a slow start but once I got going I was flying. :) Weaving to lessen Axel's tow but mainly weaving to leave Clive behind early, I missed my braking point for Mulsanne. I was very nervous anytime I had a car close behind under heavy braking. Great job guys never hitting me. I'm not sure what I did wrong when I lost it at Indianapolis after passing Dean. After that 2nd mistake, I was almost flawless.

It's a shame I had another screen freeze on lap 13. By that point I was so engrossed in what I was doing I forgot about that prospect. It was setting up to be a grand finale. 13 seconds behind with 5 laps to go and then 10 seconds behind with 4 laps to go. I thought Mark and Axel might set me up for a tremendous lap late in the race. With 3:19.23 for an ideal lap, it could have been a good one since I thought my best sector times would improve as I closed on the two leaders.

I have to say the screen freeze was a let down, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Thanks guys.

My first race in a few years and it showed.

I took the sluggish Mirage hoping to stay out of everybopdy's way which I mostly did.

Evil helped me along Mulsanne with a massive tow in Qually but I couldn't get the thing stopped in time, not once, but twice.

He must have been so proud.

Haha! Good fun though.
