Gerhard Berger once said that Brands Hatch is "the best circuit in the world".

Now imagine they would bring it "up" to modern F1 standards. Concrete run-off areas, chicanes here and there, flattened S/F straight... :(

Must have been before he raced at Oulton Park  ;D

Just wanted to say hello to everybody!  :) I'm a new member here and have joined up for the 65 Amateurs Trophy. I participated in several GPL leagues between 2000-2007 but then stopped any SIM racing with the exception of a handful of fun races here and there. I'm looking forward to a return to racing and racing with everyone at tonight's race as well as the rest of the season.

After an unlucky accident in Druids I had quite a fun race while was trying to jump over Rog (Roger?). I went off twice in the process, but was lucky to make a successful move in the very last lap. Started 3rd, finished 3rd - with lots of sweat in between. :)

Congrats to the winner and all finishers! Thanks for the race!

First off, I'd like to thank my wife for watching the kids so that I can race! Great track, and these cars are a lot of fun here. The competition seemed evenly matched thanks to the self handicapping rule. Overtaking would be difficult without someone making a mistake.

I had two spins. I had just put a wheel off both times to induce the spin. I was relieved that I was not the only one to make a mistake or two.

I had a nice view of the impressive battle between Jani and Rog in the last few laps. Rog held on to the position much better than I would have been able. Jani was smart to wait for the last lap for the overtake. Great racing!

Congrats Philippe, Rick and Jani! You three will be tough to beat.

Very entertaing start to the new season. All drivers look reasonably well matched, although Phillip & Rick probably had the edge with speed  & consistency. At differeny times I was running 3rd down to 8th. The differences seemed to be small errors as there are several places you can run wide. Impressive first race by Rick in the Cooper. Going to be a tough championship.

the championship could not start better, for me !  ;)
I like this circuit a lot, I think it will be more difficult in the future.
the level is very high, the championship will be very intense, I think.
thank you all for participating, thank you to the organizers, and "rendez-vous" to Pau for the next... :o

Bravo Philippe !!!!

For me, it was certainly the worst race I ever did with UKGPL league !

The first laps were pleasant and I was 4th during several laps then I made a lot mistakes and spins, and at the end I exploded the Honda engine.  I was also very slow during all the race...

Do mainly to others mistakes got up to 4th behind Rainier driving the Honda, a few laps later he spun gifting me 3rd, but Jani in the BRM wanted it and we had a great scrap, Jani took 3rd from me on the last bend of race (well done Jani and Thanks for some great racing and patience to overtake).

Grats to Philippe on win

Grats to Podium

Congratulations to Philippe on his win with full command of the lead from start to finish. I tried to keep up and I guess he remained in sight for maybe the first half dozen laps but he was steadily pulling away and building a comfortable lead. Much to my dismay somewhere about the half way point Pribluda showed him 15-16 seconds ahead and then the lead suddenly dropped to maybe 8 seconds. Not sure what happened there but he quickly recovered and resumed building his lead to eventually take the chequered flag with his 15 second lead recovered and intact. It will take more than a Cooper motor to keep up with that Lotus powerhouse.

Aside from Philippe steadily motoring away into the distance I was certain roguk and Jani were going to overtake me. They were closing the gap on me for many laps and I don't know how I managed to hang on for 2nd place.  Sheer luck was on my side.

I've seen the race report and everybody's lap times and firmly believe I would have finished much, much further back if it were not for my extreme good bit of luck in being spared from getting caught up in the lap 1 incident at turn 2. Looking at best lap times for the race I clocked in at 6th - not so good.

Frame rate drops were huge especially at turn 1 for nearly every lap as well as a few other spots around the course. I ran some laps with Cookie, EvilClive and Dave Rainier on Monday and experienced zero warping, stuttering or heavy frame rates so I was quite surprised when our race got underway. Turn 1 was a bear to navigate, I had to go extra slow with the stuttering and low frame rates, at times I saw frame rates as low as 30, not only at turn 1 but elsewhere too. I guess I should have searched about for a light version of the track.

Rick, I agree with you about the Cooper. I used it last season, and I was only fast on the twisty tracks. Most people wait until they win the championship, and then they handicap themselves with the Cooper. Personally, I used the Cooper last season because I want to do one season in each car. (So after this season, I might be driving the BT7, :P ). It is a challenge that proved to be too difficult for me, but it can be done. Robert Fleurke won the 65 works champ with a Cooper last season.

On a separate note, Nice video Jani! It made me wish that I had used the Fog setting at Brands. Those battles looked like fun. I am kicking myself for losing so much time on lap one now.

I should have asked the following question prior to starting the season in the Cooper. Does the rule statement "Free Chassis choice" mean we are free to choose a chassis with the understanding that we will use the same chassis for every event for the entirety of the series or does it mean that we can choose any chassis for any event?

As far as I know, we have free choice for every race. (any chassis at any race)

Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In the Amateurs division there is a free car choice for every race ;)  In the Professionals division one has to stick with one car choice throughout the season.

BTW Welcome Rick, and well done at Brands ;) Grats to Philippe for his win, Rick and Jani for podium! :)
