Title: UKGPL Season 30 (2016) Works Trophy (67) - Riverside - Aug 7
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on June 21, 2016, 12:10:43 AM +0100
Season 30 Works Trophy – Round 3 – Riverside 71

We head to the west of the USA for Round 3. The Riverside track in California was in operation from 1957 to 1989. The original course design proved to be dangerous, and it was partially reconfigured in 1969. The track was built to accommodate several different configurations, depending on the type of car and race length. The three options on Riverside Raceway were the long course, the short course and a NASCAR course. When the track was redesigned in 1969, Turn 9 was reconfigured with a wider radius and a dogleg approach added to reduce strain on the cars' brakes.

HANDICAPPING
The tokens system remains for all drivers.
In the interest of having a competitive championship the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability. If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid,  finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you should be not be taking a faster car.
The championship will be reviewed after Race 3. Drivers may then be allocated to one of the following handicap groups
Group 1 BRM, Honda, or Cooper,
Group 2 as above + Brabham
Group 3 as above + Ferrari

Until the number of registered drivers exceeds grid capacity drivers may join the server as soon as it appears in IGOR.

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Whole of Riverside not my favourite at the moment. Couldn't easily get a good rhythm outta the BRM, kept wanting to swap in the longer corners, of which there are lots here.

There was a mass disco, or the server crashed...

Quali was exciting and close. Was heading for victory, managing my pace most laps but keeping focus was hard, especially having the right turning in at the Esses. Had a few bad laps playing polo, but the Cooper didn't fit  ;)

Gents, not sure what's happened at the moment, something's not right as it seems to be in a permanent state of deadlock. One possibly to replay later.

T9 @ Riverside not your favourite, Clive

T9, T4 and t7 might be part of that list after last night's performance.  :-\

First of all huge apologies to anyone who was affected by my ineptitude :(.  You might find it hard to believe, but I had done a few trial laps on Saturday and had got the white whale down to 1:42 on race fuel,  which I felt was quite promising.
However when I joined the server last night, nothing worked....the car, the tyres or me. I was totally unable to get a clean lap in through qually and it just got worse once the race started  ??? maybe I was just trying too hard and lost the plot??? ::)
I even double checked that I had not loaded the wrong setup!!! it all felt just WRONG.
When I did finally rip some wheels off at the exit of T9  and the car slid across the road, I was frantically pounding the ESC key because I knew that following cars would be leaving T9 at warp speed.
I think there were several impacts as I left the server, so a big SORRY to anyone who suffered.

Grats to the podium and the finishers.

OOPS!!!!   Just noticed that the race was disco'd to death.
This track has caused problems in the past if I remember correctly, but I thought Ginetto had done a fix???

No Clive, this is not a problematic version of the track.
Ginetto made it from the scratch in 2012 ;)

LOL on your reference to those other corners, Clive!

You cut 42's on race fuel?  MUMMA MIA!  I wasn't even close to those numbers.

Just to confirm - we will reschedule this race.

Despite Evil's best attempts to break it I believe this track is a good one.

Just a note to bump this post to the top of the tree & remind Works drivers that the season restarts a bit earlier than advertised with a re-run of Round III - Riverside, this coming Sunday.
Round IV will be on Sunday 14th.

That was a thoroughly undeserved podium for me. I joined so late in the session I didn't have a chance to complete a qualifying lap. Not that it really mattered as the lack of practice (and lack of talent  ::)) meant I was off the pace and had plenty of opportunities to throw my car off the road.

Soldiered on to the finish despite my calamities. Congrats and Trist and Dean up front. Commiserations to those that disconnected. Maybe Riverside and GPL aren't meant to be....

Track builder Ginetto, is the most experienced, and probably the best Track builder GPL has ever had.  Tracks are not made as lightweight as they used to be, but should cause no big problems.  Perhaps Riverside and Ukgpl and many others, are not meant to be?

Sadly had to miss this race, disappointing as I had it in the bag last time out...this means I missed the first three races as well this season, as a defending champion...hopefully can get my season starting at Estoril  ::)

Grats Tris and podium :)
