Title: UKGPL Season 30 (2016) Privateers Trophy (67) - Riverside - Jun 26

Season 30 Privateers Trophy – Round 3 – Riverside 71

We head to the west of the USA for Round 3. The Riverside track in California was in operation from 1957 to 1989. The original course design proved to be dangerous, and it was partially reconfigured in 1969. The track was built to accommodate several different configurations, depending on the type of car and race length. The three options on Riverside Raceway were the long course, the short course and a NASCAR course. When the track was redesigned in 1969, Turn 9 was reconfigured with a wider radius and a dogleg approach added to reduce strain on the cars' brakes.

HANDICAPPING
The tokens system remains for all drivers.
In the interest of having a competitive championship the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability, from Race 1. If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid,  finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you should be not be taking a faster car.
The championship will be reviewed after Race 3. Drivers may then be allocated to one of the following handicap groups
Group 1 BRM, Honda, or Cooper,
Group 2 as above + Brabham
Group 3 as above + Ferrari

Drivers are permitted one Reset / Shift R per race, followed by a compulsory Stop & Go within two laps. If you take your reset on the last lap 15 seconds will be added to your time. A second Shift R will result in Disqualification unless it is the direct result of the first incident e.g. hit when respawning.
If you are the first car entering the pit lane to take your SnG aim to bring the car to a halt alongside the last pit stall - closest to the exit. As soon as your car is stationary you can go. You won't be penalised if you stop a little short or beyond the pit stall.
In the event that more than one car takes a SnG at the same time the following cars can perform their Stop & Go in line.
No overtaking in the pit lane.

Until the number of registered drivers exceeds grid capacity drivers may join the server as soon as it appears in IGOR.

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Password: see above

I popped my engine in the first lap, made my stop'n'go and thus went from P2 to P10. I needed 10 laps or so to regain my position - by that time Dave had 23 seconds advantage on me. I could close the gap slightly but finally it did not matter as I had to retire due to real life.

Grats on your victory Dave! Well done podium and finishers! Thanks for the race guys!

terrible race. I was not able to drive fast and safe on an unkown track. Did some sports and the EM Game (only one Beer) made me too tired. It went real good for the first race laps when my engine exploded. After that many mistakes and another broken engine in the end.

Grats Dave and all finishers.

You were by far the faster driver yesterday.
After your stop and go, I had and advantage of 32 seconds  + 9 places (as you were 10 and me 1st)...
But I made an error on the first sector and lost 10 seconds.
So I had 22 seconds and 18 laps to go.
You were 1 second/lap faster than me, so I tried to run fast and make no errors ...until your retirement.
Else the end of the race would have been difficult for me.

I hope you were not too affected by this race and by this sad evening for Hungarian football team.
Until yesterday, they made a great Euro !

why did I take the BRM? I did not understand the new rules. :-\ :-\
David explained to me "in French," but I did not understand.
So I'll see a doctor, and I'll feel better after.
Please, can I use eagle or Lotus or Ferrari for next ???  :angel-wings: :angel-wings:

bravo David and grats to podium !

You are now 2nd in the championship, so you will probably have to use Group 1 cars ( BRM, Honda, or Cooper, maybe Brabham) for next race... and same punishment for me !
Riverside was your last opportunity to select a quick car ... until you go down deep in the championship !

Just to explain about the handicap rules.
I want to give everyone a fair chance to win races. Drivers who are clearly much faster than the average speed should be limited to the slower cars. On the basis of the lap times at Riverside & the other rounds it seems that Jani (Group 1) & Dave Rainier (Group 2)are the drivers most likely to be handicapped. That is to be expected as they are drivers that can compete at Works level. I will consult with other moderators before making any final decisions, as this needs to be fair.
Philippe & Bastian are quite quick but not so much faster than others.

I hope this rule will be reviewed after each races ...
I don't like the idea to drive BRM, Honda or Cooper until the end of the season.

By the way,  driving a Cooper for the 3 next tracks  = Estoril, Mosport and Laguna Seca  are not really a disadvantage  ;)  (also for Solitude)

The 1967 Season always presents me with 2 challenges - one with the cars, and one with the cars tyres.  A fast lap can soon turn into a sliderama, with high risk of a 360 degree panorama!  I had a couple of these at Riverside. :-[

It's one of those tracks where you need to know where you're going, before you get there.  It's also helpful, to avoid the smell of tyresmoke.  I was successful at only one of these 2 helpful hints.

My race had very little flow to it.  A temporary blockage in the esses was the mid-race result, with a spin ending on the racing line.  While crossing the track to recover, I chanced upon a Dave, who failed to wave his greetings, or sound his horn.  I failed to find a safe Zebra crossing, which we use in England to cross the road safely, when a car is coming.  Zebra's also use these, but I failed to remember I was on was a California track, and a D.C.destruction was the result.  Apologies to Dave - I expect a penalty to fall on my podium position.

A quick motor rebuild was necessary trackside, on the last lap,  But by race end, despite some wayward maneuvers, I'd time enough for the mechanics to check my work at pitlane, and cross the line as a ragged runner up.

In GPL

A Fast driver can be Fast in a Slow car .

A Slow driver is just plain Slow whatever wheel he sits behind  ::)

Mod report now published - thanks for making your moderation moderate, with only one penalty point.  But on my Race History page it shows 2 points?  British roads nowadays have speed cameras on every corner, and now this!  I hate automation . . .  grumble!

1 Place Penalty equals 2PP (red card). A Warning equals 1PP (yellow card).  ;)
