Looks like someone create the forum post seperately to the LM2 race details :D

To admin:- Can we lose the booking time for a test race and just have a longer practise session so that guys can hop in and out with different cars to try? If that is straightforward enough, that would be my preference.

Something we've never played with/enabled are the options to Join in session. As I can't find anything on the Internet to explain it I assume this means no booking is required and people can just turn up mid session. However the server needs to be populated with cars. There are 7 GT3 cars and Mugello has a pit limit of 24 boxes. Thus you could basically only have 3 of each car available on the server. If 4 people want to run the Nissan then the 4th is out of luck. But this is effectively how we run the practice server and I don't enable this Join option. So does Can join in a session mean you can use any car without it being registered? If anyone knows please shout, if not perhaps a couple of you are available tonight, say from 8, and we'll have a play.

That's either cos your blacklisted or I've not had a chance to set it up yet! Some of us are meant to be working you know :P

Practice server is up, there are actually 9 GT3s, only 8 are available on the server just now - no Bentley. MJ please could you put a link in the first post to the download you want us to use.

Done  :)

Worth asking Erik or Darren off of Core about server settings as they do similar for their races. I see they even use performance ballast now which I didn't know was possible yet

At Core you have to use your Steam ID and register for a race, that allows them to build the driver entry file prior to a race.

And server restarted with the Bentley added.

Hi guys, I'm very new to all this but would like to join in on this practice session (and the rest of the championship if all goes well).

Just a few thing I want to clarify, you mention this:

At Core you have to use your Steam ID and register for a race, that allows them to build the driver entry file prior to a race.

^I'm unsure what this means? Where do we have to use our Steam ID? I'd like to get all this sorted as early as to not cause any hassle later.

Also is there anything else I should be doing before the first session? I've downloaded the Bentley, as presumably we have to have it even if we are not driving it in order to connect to the server?

Cheers :)

Welcome sir :)

Core is another site that races with Assetto Corsa, they use a different method than us to allow users on their server and to do this they require your Steam ID. We currently simply use a password to protect the server. As the race event gets close the race password will be posted at the top of each page of the race topic. The practice password, and often event password, can be found in this topic https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2929.0

You will need the Bentley installed if someone uses it. Not sure if no one has selected it and you join a server if it will flag up an error. I'd expect it to.

And Please note the booking time, unlike other sims you cant just join at any point uptil the race. You will need to book you place during this time, in game, so the server knows who is going to join. Then when the practise session starts you can join.

Thanks Pete and Spanner for helping new faces  :)

Only during the race itself, I forgot to set it to 3 laps so unless you quit out people will have to wait sometime.

I'm in okay with Gary, would ask people to skip race sessions whilst practising on server so others can get in  :)
Maybe Pete can just set a long practise time for future?

Can someone try joining with the Bentley? It wouldn't let me join earlier but may have been same prob as Linus

Pete solved the Bentley problem, it was a server setting. Two of us ran it without a hitch so all good. :)

Best times for a few cars seem to be in the 1:49's so far though I could only manage low 1:51 in the Bentley (but had hardly any seat or setup time with it). It was matching my Lambo top ends down the s/f straight so seems BoP'd nicely.

Good to see 6 or so different racers putting the times in for practise in a variety of cars.

Could do with someones FFB thrustmaster settings TBH, the last update seemed to lose the bindngs and hand to redo it all. Plus my old setups dont really work as they have differing damper ranges than default, which is the first warning that the physics has been updated.

Personally found the Lambo the quickest but a bit hard work. Seems a slightly oversteering car that turns in well work round here. Audi i think i improved the setup but didnt have chance to do a lap. Z4 felt a bit more stable on turn-in giving more confidence to push but might need more work as the engine felt a bit down. It is an older generation car compared to the others here now tho!

Just tried the Bentley, Nissan, McLaren, Lambo en Z4 and they were all quite equal timewise. So I'm just gonna pick the thing that doesn't get picked  :P

Hi Gents,

Back again from working abroad. So time to fire up AC again. Happy to see tonight's race is a test race. Gives me some time to sample a few cars. I don't have a favourite, so will have to try them all i guess. 8)

I the damage multiplier 100%? In previous races it was set to 70% if i remember correctly.

I set damage at 100% to encourage cleaner driving, but I don't mind reducing that to prevent people's races being over early if they happen to get spat or pushed into an Armco barrier.

Following the Bentley, it does look good! However seeing Picnics onboard the cockpit is a bit basic, hate the seat head restraints blocking the view!

I take it PLP isn't neccasary for this? Though I've always had it installed

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 Blancpain Sprint series - Test race Mugello June 29th
Post by: Mark J on June 29, 2016, 01:08:06 PM +0100
For the Bentley you have to use the in-game app cockpit view adjuster to move your seat forward. (The icon with a helmet on it). No problem with that.

PLP will not be used. We'll rely on driver reporting or watching replays to bust repeat cutters. AC does a reasonable enough job grip wise of making you not want to take too much kerb or grass anyway.

Note to all, booking is removed for this evenings race so you can jump in the practise session on and off with various cars from 7.15pm uk  :)
First post updated.
Apparently without a booking session we are limited to a set number of each car (think that's correct) so if you can't get on with a particular car, try another. Me & Pete are working on it behind the scenes  ;)

Post by: garyjpaterson on June 29, 2016, 06:53:55 PM +0100
I gave the Bentley a go, and the physics are... interesting  ;D

The tyres are the old V3 model (the rest are on V7), meaning the temperatures are too stable, which is why they don't overheat like the others. Unlike the others, there is no differentiation between surface and core temps, both are the same.

Aero is strange too, very very rear biased, even with front wing at max. The frontwing and diffuser heights are very unstable too, meaning the aero balance fluctuates far more than any other car. This makes braking/accelerating harder, since the aero balance changes wildly.

Its also very fuel efficient  :D Only needs 1.8l/lap, whereas the AMG GT3 needs 2.7l/lap.

Centre of gravity is probably a bit too low at 32cm, whereas the Nissan which I imagine would be very similar is at over 40cm.

That being said, the laptimes aren't that far off with some tweaking to setup, but for me its much harder to drive, quite unpredictable. I found it very hard to feel the grip, the steering goes light as if you have understeer, but if you turn more it grips more  ???

Anyway, looking forward to the session this evening, see you all later :)

This needs to be done to get v7 tyres on the Bentley. I'm happy to do that if Pete can do same for the server but suspect it's a bit late in the day  :-\

V7 tires on the Bentley:
Copy tyres.ini from any GT3 car on SDK tires folder to the Bentley data folder.
ex: assettocorsa\sdk\dev\v1.5_tyres_ac\bmw_z4_gt3\data

Let me know if you read this in time Pete

LOL - just started the server! 40 secs notice was perhaps a little optimistic ;) Unless the tyres.ini file is identical in all GT3s everyone must copy the same file or you'll get checksum errors. Suggest it's left for next week now, sorry.

Also most of the GT3 fields tyres do have slight differences, especially with overall dimensions. So yeah, they'd all have to be the from the same car, and the dimensions might no be correct. And the tcurve.lut's and wear.luts would also need copying over for it all to work properly.

The league's importer has failed to digest these results, probably due to the fact we allowed drivers to change cars. Official results are delayed as a result.

Don't suppose there's a server replay is there? For some reason my client failed to record more than about 20 seconds worth?  ???
That's a race I'd really like to see again  8)

The race was great fun. What the Beemer looses out on acceleration it makes up for in high speed cornering. Although I found it wouldn't change direction at mid/low speeds as stably as some other cars which was costing me time in my battle with Gary.

I lost my cool slightly towards the end due to some small mistakes allowing Gary to catch me back up.
Then Jeremy joined the party - and then I over-did it trying to ensure I kept him at arms length too!
Very pleased with the win, well done to Gary for taking the pressure for so long  :thumbup1:

Gonna stick with the Z4 for the full series I think

That was a lot of fun. Decided to go for the mcLaren, as I didn't see anybody talk about it before the race. Wanted to see how it behaves in traffic.

Start of the race was a bit messy. Think a combination of people being very cautious and some caught out by the cold tyres.
I got spun around in turn 2 and ended up with aero damage.
That made the car around 10kph slower and the straight, and it already isn't the quickest.

Had some nice battles and had a hard time overtaking Michael, as that Nissan is flying on the straights. The cornering difference was frightening tho  :o .

Last few laps were fun trying to catch up to Gary and FMG. ;D

Thanks guys, really enjoyed myself, even if I was being hounded by faster drivers for the whole race!  :D

FMG put and kept the pressure on hard, I was barely coping, then when Jeff came along I knew it was only a matter of time ;D You're pace is amazing, glad you skipped quali, allowed me a bit of glory  ;)

Pretty happy, I managed to only made one off-track excursion, with my half-spin after Jeff had dealt with me, luckily I had just enough of a gap to stay on the podium.

I'd also love to see a replay, see just how close FMG got to my rear bumper! And love the breakdown Pete, really interesting stuff.

Can't wait for the next one, though I think I'll be further down the pack, as I'm not a fan of the Nurburgring GP, whereas Mugello is pretty much my favourite.
See you all then :)

Had a great race too in the big ol Bentley bus  :) finishing a fine 4th on its debut.

Race start was good albeit a bit tardy and I saw a couple of noses poking up my sides but think the Bentley and Nissan blocked out the straight nicely  ;D
Had great fun monstering the mirrors of FMG for first few laps while he fought gary but they eeked out a lead when Richard knocked me off under braking and I never saw them again. Didn't fight rapid Jeff when he caught late on and after Richard span off on a kerb I ran solo until the end. Tyres started to wear down on lap 10 then really go sour from lap 12 on losing 2 secs a lap in the twisties.  :o

Good turnout for a test race and a few had pm'd to say they couldn't make this week and one or two either couldn't get on in time or didn't show. Nice variety of cars chosen too.
Looking good for round 1 next week  8)

Superb race for in the Nissan. I was a bit of a roadblock early on but soon settled and had an amazing race with Jeffery and Goldtop. Totally knackered though, the Nissan is amazing on the straight but boy do you have to muscle it around the corners. It's going to be very hard work especially the hour races but worth it :)

Would love a copy of the replay also if available.

AC doesn't do server replays :( Sadly I sat there so long chatting to others when I quit we'd moved on to the next event so my replay was only 2 mins long of 4 or 5 of us sat in the pits  ::) If there is an automatic way to save all replays on the client please let me know.

My race got off to a bad start, I hit the back of Michael's Nissan deep in to T2, he was still braking long after I would have been on the gas, I couldn't see through his car so no idea if we was slowing still because of other traffic. If that was all me then sorry Michael. However it then got worse as the concertina effect meant someone also went in to the back of me and as I looked in my rear view mirror I could see cars spinning :(

The next few laps were fun, I was quicker than Michael so he was holding GT and myself up. We had Jeff and then Shark catch up and get through, how they maintain the corner speed I've no clue (well I do it's called talent and setup, but I have neither) By the time GT got passed Michael, for the 1st time, my tyres had already started to go off and my pace drop. All I could do then was watch them disappear off in to the distance. The shenanigans at the start meant no one was close behind and the last half dozen laps were rather tedious. Looking forward to next week though.

Shame about the replay  :'( .

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but download the setup market (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/the-setup-market.10149/) app. There are plenty of setups on there, also for the Lambo. I downloaded a Lambo setup from there ( I think the Barcelone version) and it felt very good. Also had my McLaren setup from there.

I managed to save some of the replay although it's only about 10 - 12 laps. I'm just off for a few days to do a track day so I'll upload it when I'm back over the weekend.

Haven't driven AC for ages so it all felt a bit unfamiliar for me. I didn't see any incidents in T1/T2 but I think I gained a couple of places. Unfortunately I've forgotten how to display driver names or race positions so I didn't have a clue who was around me but it was good clean fun all the way with lots of close racing. I eventually managed to pass a Nissan but on the following lap tried to carry too much speed into the final turn and ended up in the gravel  ::)

Looking forward to the series.

I was in the Nissan and you had me on the limit for the whole race. I was so slow on corner entry but great on exit speed. The only time I could relax was the main straight but you still got me going in to turn 1 in the end. Great race :)

I'd like to propose we run with tyre warmers which should help ease any first lap issues with cold tyres. It was considerable in practise, the difference from the out lap to the next with some heat in the tyres. Plus it will minimise the spread of cars as hopefully people wont be struggling quite so much in the first laps.

By the time GT got passed Michael, for the 1st time, my tyres had already started to go off and my pace drop. All I could do then was watch them disappear off in to the distance. The shenanigans at the start meant no one was close behind and the last half dozen laps were rather tedious.

Forgot to mention this. If you were using the default setup, the tyre pressures were way too high here. With default I was getting almost 39 psi, and 33 is optimal.
My starting pressure, especially the front left, was around 20 psi, and even then it went to 35 at some points. That might have caused your high wear, as my tires were still fine at the end.

Also, the 100% damage seems a bit high, I had very light yellow damage but lost around 10kph on the straight and around 0.7 of a second per lap. i don't think high damage will give safer racing, as I think everybody here is fair and won't do anything wreckless on purpose.

Don't tell MJ but I accidentally left damage at 70% last night!

I'm happy to leave damage lower if it keeps the grid fuller for longer and racing stronger but damage does also need to be a deterrent to contact and dangerous driving. But we all know how painful it is if your a victim of someone else's mistake and end up losing 15mph down a straight due to damage so has to be a happy medium. 70-80% seems fair to me.  :)

Good so seems there are at least another 5 drivers who will race that couldn't make last night  :) a fiercely close 20 car Gt grid is a good start and may be others waiting in the wings  8)

Please put your name and car choice in the series thread, ta  :)
