Please Note Delete the Bentley install from your AC/content/cars folder and re-install from the Dropbox link in the first post above. The Bentley has been updated to included several physics fixes and v7 tyres to bring it in line with the current group of gt3 cars. Sorry for the inconvenience but that was the beauty of running the test race to try the unknowns out. I've re-tested a group of 4 of them in a 30car grid at a couple of different character tracks and they spread nicely among the field still so BoP seems okay.

Note also, race laps updated, 25 laps equating to a 35minute race.  :)

Anyone done some laps yet? It's going to be fast and furious and feel more like a DTM/touring car race on the Sprint layout. Lap times are circa 1:25 best AI

BTW Mark, I think the Blancpain are using the other Sprint circuit, the one with the tighter chicane. Makes laps a few seconds slower too.

I think its called the Nurburgring Sprint GP as apposed the the Sprint GT.

Yeah, managed to find a bit of onboard, going over the chicane.

Saw they were getting up to about 150mph (242kph) on the back straight, which seems in line with what I got testing yesterday.

Yes had noticed it looked like the tighter chicane being used but I actually think that's a bit nasty for a full grid of Gt cars and will prob just cause contact. I was hoping to confirm once I'd seen some of the live footage but at moment tempted to stay with the free-er flowing GT version.

Lot of blinking Audis on that timing sheet!  :o

Personally I'd prefer to use the same track as the Blancpain, just so we can compare times with real life  :D And it shouldn't cause too much trouble, as you can still run onto the other chicane if things get too tight.

Perhaps some others can chip in with what they'd prefer.

I found the Blancpain one a very tight left right at the end of a long straight hard braking zone and can just see chaos there, but happy to run either. Agree it would be nice to compare lap times to the real race this weekend but has to be weighed up against pain  ;)

Do like the enduro chicane over the GP one, nice and quick, helps offset all the tighter stuff. Does mean i think it takes away a potential overtake spot.

Trying a few cars out on the server, got into the 26's in the Audi is my best. Not a fan of the Bentley tbh but i'm sure someone could make it a bit more agile.

Plan to be back on tonight trying the mercs out.

Mark, just wondering if you want to postpone the start of this season for a week so that the Euros is over and maximise the turnout? One of the semi-finals is on this night at this time (Wales vs Portugal) of which there could be a lot of interest from our British members.

I prefer the tighter chicane also as good overtaking spot but happy with either.

Know what you mean, didn't expect Wales to get this far!  :P but if I delay any longer I'll lose drivers to holidays, myself included, so kind of have to get the ball rolling. I'll have to skyplus the footie myself and watch it delayed which is no big deal.

Re the chicane, I'll try it out again myself later with a big grid and see how it goes. I watched the live race yesterday and it caused no issues at all.  :)

Having already done plenty of laps a quick decision would be good to readjust.

Jut finshed the F1, now watching the feature Race 8)

Hope to finalise the car soon, tbh i now cant remember the cars!, probably will go with either the Audi or Lambo. Would like to run a proper skin for the Audi, the existing skins a bit meh.

Haipin looks far nicer on TV, looks heavily camberd only, not the huge dip ingame!

Which one? Can't say I remember any of them on the GP circuit being particularly cambered, barring the one in the GP layout by the campsite.
That was many moons back now though and part of a 'full' lap so I had a lot more to pay attention too  ;D

Probably the hairpin that makes this the Sprint layout.

By hairpin I'm assuming he means the chicane  ;) the GP sprint has a faster flowing uphill version whereas the normal sprint layout has the tighter left-right combo. I will try it tonight if I can but am actually working hard behind the scenes on this along with Petes great help as well as trying to do a million real life things so bare with me  :P

I think he means the hairpin where the sprint course rejoins the GP course which was stitched together iirc. Was hoping this might have been updated by now.

I couldn't care less about the football as well.

I have always gone with either the Maclaren or BMW Z4 when racing in GT3, so have decided to try something different for this series. I was going to go for either the Audi or AMG merc, The audi seems nice to drive but I am getting better lap times in the merc so will probably go with that

NOTICE:-
We will be using the Sprint (non-GT) version as used in this weekends real Blancpain round, as several asked for it. Be it on your heads!  ;) as the chicane is a fair bit tighter than the version I preferred.    The practise server is already running it.

Been on tonight with JR, get your car setup right for those kerbs, ie not too low!  Was cool to see the laptimes reflected the real race  8)

Still more nimble than my Bentley bus  ;D I expect the heavier set cars will struggle at this track compared to the sprightly mclarens and z4's but I did improve my lap times this eve by nearly 3 seconds making setup changes.

Wish we could flash live timing up on here in race threads in a live dynamic way.

Is that a stock skin? If so let me know and I'll edit the entry file. At the moment your in the United autosports skin (red, white & blue).

Pete can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your chosen skin will show on the praccy server, but should be correct on race night.
Ps sorry Pete, thought our practise server wasn't a secret password.

Do your best Sharky, always good to have one of my nemesis on track for added spice  ;D your pre booked in so can join right upto the race start.

Am a little confused. So there are two joining methods, booking mode, and free but with a fixed car entry list, err ok and the assigned method. You seem to be trying to run both at the same time?  If your running a booking system then we all need to be booked in surely?

Post by: Mark J on July 05, 2016, 09:04:19 PM +0100
If your on my pre-entry list as per the series thread then no you don't book, your slot is guaranteed as ive effectively already told the server your name, guid and car choice.
If your name isn't on the list or I haven't got the guid of say a new driver in time then they have to use the booking method...simples  :)

good to see 6 or 7 guys practising on the server tonight  :)

[/NOTEb] Please make sure you have the Bentley mod installed from post 1 of this thread. It is a newer version than used in the test race a week ago so if you get a checksum error joining its more likely that. I saw one person already struggle to join tonight until he realised.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly tonight but this the 1st time we've used GUIDs to register drivers. MJ and myself will try and keep an eye on the forum and I'll be on TeamSpeak as early as I can, details here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3050.0

No need to stay on TS for the race if you find it distracting but it's a useful medium to communicate with if there is an issue.

If I were you guys I'd at least try and join the race server sooner the better just to make sure you can get on alright and allow me and Pete time to solve any issues. Hopefully none!

Really sorry you missed it Micheal  :(  did you refresh your server list?  its a bizarre one not to be able to see it and nothing to do with the way we ran it. Cant think why a server wouldn't show up? Pete may have some ideas. Could you see other servers?

Epic first race!! thoroughly enjoyed that and great turn out, though we were missing 3. What happened to Goldtop? he left and never returned. ChrisR had already told me he might not be home in time.

Well done to Jeff and the podium  :notworthy:

I had superb battles throughout and loved seeing the different dynamics of the cars at work, like the jack Russell Mclarens in the twisties and me and the mercs being able to monster them on the straights.
Qualied 5th and finished 5th in the end  8)

My best two battles were the first 7 laps with Richards 650s until the chicane finally undid me after hitting the anchors so hard to avoid RT's rear end, and then for last half the race chasing down and passing Garys AMG after a fantastic fight that lasted ages :fencing:
We even got past a couple of squabbling z4's I think.  :thumbup1:

Hope everyone enjoyed round 1, saw some great battles going on.  :)  If anyone has any grievances, report the time on the replay and I can look into it.

Yeah I could see other servers but the odd thing is it kept saying displaying something like 980 of 1012 servers. Whatever button I pressed either reduced the number but would never display all the servers. I spent an hour refreshing but nothing.mi searched for Nurburgring, Sprint and Simracing but nothing. Plus I came out of the game, rebooted Steam and the PC but nothing still.

Gutted is an understatement as yesterday's test was brilliant. No idea why I could not see the server :(

Yep awesome stuff, you never let off one bit over I don't know how many laps! Good move to get passed, then I made a silly move to get it back, making contact.

And sorry i never got a chance to reply, I was on 6 wing!

Good hard race, everyone around me kept very clean for the first lap which was great to see, then settled into a groove. Made up quite a few places at the end due to others misfortunes :D but my mistake gave them all back!

On to Misano, not a track I know but its got to be better than Nurb Sprint!  :P

First off, well done to MJ and Pete for setting this up so quickly and all the hard work. Don't know how you managed to get such a grid out of the hat  ;D.

I was struggling during qually, as I never got a clean lap in. Loved the fact that you couldn't push the softs for more than a few laps. You really had to take a few corners easy to cool them down.

Managed to do a good start, but it wasn't long until nfsw's Nissan came charging. Couple of corners we were side by side, which was fun and a nightmare all the same, as I was already scared on cold tyres being alone, let alone with somebody around me :D .

Had to push the whole race to try and maintain the gap, so crossed the finish line sweating.

I think this track suited the McLaren very well, but the other cars just laugh at the 650s on the straights  :o .

that's whats so weird Micheal that you were on the server only last night.  ???

And Goldtop, you wally! I tried to reply you don't need the plp app but you left as i was typing. Unlucky mate, you missed a corker.  :(

Yes the 650s is noticeably slow on the straights! I nearly rear ended RT's 650 so many times up at that chicane in the early laps and that's what un-did me as the car got out of shape under hard braking instead of me being able to coast and bounce across the kerbs which is how I had set my car up!  :P

Misano will play to the 650's and z4s again I expect, Cant wait to eat you alive at Paul Ricard hehe  ;D

Phew, epic race. Really enjoyed that one.

Started out 3rd but directly into t2 I had Richard on the outside and with the tyres cold I bumped into him ( my bad ). Got back 8th behind Simon. Had a blast from there ;p
2 guys infront spun out so I was back 6th, spent about 10 laps within a car lenght of Simon who was within a car lenght of Luka who was in a car length of Richard ( sorta ;p )
Had a few oppertunities but couldn't make the pass since Luka was right ahead or next to Simon ( had to back out of a 3 wide into the chicane, wouldn't have ended well  ;D )
Got by Simon and had some great tandem drifting in T2
Ended back 3rd afer getting through Luka and Richard ( and Simon for a second time  ;D). I think I was battling atleast someone for the first 22 laps
Few bumps and bruises but hey, thats GT3  ;D

@Richard; you might wanna leave a fellow driver some space going side by side in a corner and not weave left and right on the straights, caused my a few high blood pressure moments  ;)

Great first race for me here at the simracing.org.uk community.
I had some ping problems in the practice session but I hope it was ok during the race.
Qualifying wasn't perfect, strangely enough I missed some pace compared to my training laps. Nevertheless P2 was good for me.
Respect to all drivers at the race start, T1 was very clean, didn't see any cars making contact  :)
As Jeffrey wrote, we had a good battle the first two laps I guess but after his tyres warmed up he was so fast, I wasn't able to follow him or even chasing im down.
The rest of the race was very relaxed for me, couldn't match Jeffrey's pace at the front, but at the same time increasing the gap to the cars behind me. Finishing P2 at the end way behind Jeffrey
Misano next week will be a real experience for me, never drove this track before in AC or any other racing game.Very curious how the Nissan will perform there.
Now I'm waiting impatiently for the next rounds and some tracks where the Nissan power really comes into play ;D

I think you need to leave the server really soon after the race to ensure that it saves the replay, I had that problem at Mugello because I stayed in chat for ages at the end.
I managed to get a copy this time but Maikel has beaten me to it  :)

Replay : https://www.dropbox.com/s/tlzj3sqqhbnjllg/blancpain_nurburgring_sprint?dl=0

My own race turned into damage limitation as I drew the short straw in lap one, and ended up on the outside at T1 in the traffic jam which dropped me a few places.
I ended up behind Luka and then it went 'wronger'! I managed to perform what should have been a successful out-braking maneuver into T1 about 5 laps in but ended up having to abort my turn into the corner because Jonzo's huge Bentley was occupying the piece of tarmac I needed - the short trip out into the sand pit dropped me another 2 places  :'(

I dragged myself back up to Luka by half way and we resumed where we left off. We had 2 bumps during the battle but I think Maikel sums it up well 'that's GT3' ;D
(Plus I finally won the battle ;) )

All in all a great first race and I'm looking forward to as many of the remainder as I can attend, Thanks Mark and Picnic for organising this

Not quite the race i'd hoped for but given me extra motivation to work out whats wrong with both my driving and the car! Couldn't get the car working in the slow hairpin and chicane, just understeered too much. Realised I was holding Picnic up early on and was evident but how much further ahead he got at the end. Stefan dropping back made things interesting, if just to see how much quicker that thing is down the straights but almost rear-ended him in the corners!

Good to see so many people turn up, helps to keep the focus when there people around you with similar pace!

Surely the replay stops recording when the last person crosses the line so you guys that are too quick and try leaving before we've all finished don't get the replay?

Thought you rushed off to do the results Pete? got distracted?  ;)

Nice one Pete, I sent Dave a thank you message earlier today

Interesting reading the real race report in Autosport magazine that some drivers didn't like the track. I thought it was pretty good for a Gt sprint race, albeit quite hard to overtake without making a banzai move.

Ps we need a Bentley and an Audi logo for the results  ;)

Really enjoyed this race, special thx to Picnic, Spanner and Eck for some very considerate racing. Going to stick with the Macca, though the Bentley is very tempting. It looks like I won't be able to make next weeks race though which is a shame.

Please do not engage in finger-pointing in public, this helps nobody and will most likely simply encourage a flame war to erupt. If you're unhappy with somebody else's driving, submit an incident report and let the moderators sort it out. Thanks.

I got a good start, then thought "thats too good, maybe its a rolling start???". As I backed off, I was swamped again... what a pillock.

Its just as well though, I'd have missed the great race with Chris. Who I was really holding up, at times. While we I messed around/up, we were caught by Pete n Mark, who were involved in their own tight battle. Stefan obviously found it wasn't fun, out of our company, he kept coming back to join in.. lol.

I look forward to scoring little/nil at Misano too.
