I was quite late trying to join the server but was denied with a goofy, 'You are not qualified to join this race.' message.  ???

Same here, but I rejoined with 60fpsV2newmod and it was okay. (I always used v1 for CA71.)

It was good fun till it lasted, I just had to leave early. Sorry guys.

Disconnect with 13 or so laps left. Bah.

Hacked off about that one.  The neighbors heard some choice swear words after I got tipped over in turn 1.  Haven't watched the replay yet but as Greg spun I was trying to stay as inside as I could, but the Ferrari seemed to just stay in the center of the track, and when I clipped it I got launched.  Stop and go put me last, and it took a while to calm down.  But I started putting in some solid consistent laps, and the f^%$ing engine blew.  Bah.

Well done to Carlos for the win.

Congrats Carlos!

I wish that I was able to race yesterday.

Thanks Tommie for the set-ups. Thanks Axel for hosting.

I hope to be at the next one.

Congrats Carlos! That was a nice consistent drive.

I apologize Mark. It's not surprising that you couldn't avoid me. I think my rear suspension bottomed out soon after turning into T1. The rear broke loose with no warning. I was barely able to countersteer quick enough. Just as I had regained control, we made contact. It appears some warp doomed you. :( I was sad to see you had fallen back so far.

After ruining Mark's effort, I felt I should have used the Shadow. It probably would have allowed me to take it a little easier into T1 on the start. But after Axel kind enough to allow me to use 330 except at Brno, I thought I'd use the 712M here, even though it put me at a disadvantage.

I thought I had a chance to win with the Ferrari if I didn't make any mistakes. I thought it would be Mark or Axel that would beat me. I didn't think about Carlos and his M8F until a few laps into the race. Once I got around Axel I was able to close on Carlos but as soon as I got close, Carlos picked up the pace and got me to spin exiting the Esses. That dropped me to 11 seconds behind. I was able to close again but once I got the gap down to 4 seconds I spun again. That dropped me back to 11 seconds behind again. After the 2nd spin I didn't think I had enough time to catch Carlos but I tried anyway.

My apologies to Axel too. I thought he was sliding wide at Fox corner so I went for the inside line. He slowed a lot to get the car under control. It was too late for me to go outside so I gave Axel a little bump. It's a shame it went ahead and spun him around.

And once again, I apologize guys for making a mess at T1.

That sucks. I was worried that would happen to me. My last 3 races here ended with screen freezes. I hope you were using v1.1 and not v1.0. I ran 3 races here using v1.0 when I think most other drivers had v1.1. 1.1 is significantly faster than v1.0.

I guess this settles it for me. I had been debating whether to use the 330 or one of the big block Fords at Lemans. I also hadn't decided whether to use the Shadow or 712M at Spa67. After hindering Mark's chance for scoring points here, I'll use the 330 at Lemans and the 712 at Spa67. We'll see how the points look before I choose between the 712 or Shadow at Watkins Glen.

Hmmm...  Have just discovered that my normal CanAm71 install recommends the use of the 60fpsv1 patch, not the one specified in the lead.  A lack of time as noted above didn't give me the chance to discover the fix before qualifying closed.  Swell.

No don't be silly.  Look ebbs and flows happen in every championship, that's how it goes.  I certainly don't want anyone to start handicapping themselves (further), so you should definitely take the MK4 to Le Mans.  I also noticed I was changing down too aggressively at Rd Atlanta (my wheel obscures the rev dial) as well, which likely caused the engine to break (just before half distance   :(  ).

I'd like to keep things more interesting Mark. I actually like driving the 330 and 712.

I probably would have been about 1 second faster here in the Shadow. I like seeing the Heavies have a chance against me if they're consistent. Carlos was consistent. 2 years ago, I noticed DaveC and Walter could beat me with the M8F/T260 vs. the 712 if they were consistent.

Plus I like driving a different car than the last one I raced on a particular track. I raced the Mk. 4 last time at Lemans and the Mk. 2B the time before that. It's time for the 330. I haven't raced it at Lemans in more than 2 years.

I'm getting faster with the 330. I feel I've learned about all I can teach myself with it at Lemans. So I downloaded the 3 fastest 330 laps at Lemans from GPLRank. And I tried out Steve Cloyd's setup. All the replays I downloaded, the drivers appear to be speedshifting constantly. Some fine tuning Cloyd's setup and speedshifting got me a 3:22.48 without a tow. First time I've intentionally speedshifted in a long time. :)  I hope to break into the 21s soon. Low to mid 22s should be possible without speedshifting. A good tow should gain me 1-1.5 seconds. I think there's a possibility to be competitive with the 330. And with it's light weight and 5 speed transmission, it should do pit stops and s&gs faster than the Fords. So I don't feel it's much of a handicap. Plus the only car I may enjoy driving more than the 330 is the T70.

I also started testing at Spa67. 6 laps in the Shadow and I'm already down to 2:58.80. 3:00.62 is my best with the 712 but I'm not sure what kind of lap that was. It could have involved some tow. It also may not be as fast as I can go. I was racing with ADC and I kept having one of the slowest drivers I've seen in GPL pulling out of the pits in front of me on my last lap of fuel during qualifying.

I forgot to practice some race starts with the 712 at Road Atlanta. I'll make sure I practice a few opening laps for the rest of the season. What happened in T1 was unlike anything I experienced in my practicing but I never practiced an inside line into T1 on full fuel.

The main reason I said it settles it for me, is your bad luck has given me a cushion. So I don't need to use the fastest car available in every race.

Occasionally I like to get pole position and drive away from the field. It's, by far, the easiest way for me to win. I wouldn't want to do that anymore that 1/3 of my races. Even that much might start to bore me.

The 712 is a challenge. The 330 is fun. I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

That's a shame Doni. I hope you double check the race posts in the future. :) I forget sometimes too. That's why you'll see me asking rules regarding resets at times.
