Title: UKGPL Season 30 Fun - 66 - Assen - Jul 31
Post by: Cookie on July 27, 2016, 09:05:18 PM +0100
S30 - Festival of Speed - 66 - Assen

Let's have some more fun in the summer break!

We will race the 66's at Assen we had skipped, but let's try it in a fun race...

You have a free car choice and no limit shift+r no s+g

Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 31-07-2016
GPL mod = 66
60fps patch used = 60fpsV2newmod
Track dir = Assen (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Tracks/)
Qualification = 20:45  UK time -> 45min
Race = race starts at ~21:30 UK time
Race length = ~45 min -> 18 laps
Damage Model = INT
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/xg5bwg

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.
Using the "no letterbox" patch makes chat messages in car obsolete, so you better uncheck it in GPL options ;)

GLA and have FUN

Even with the GINFixUpdate + extra sky.mip I had several freezes after a short time.

Any ideas how to get this track saver?

PS

I reduced the detail slider to 62% and had no freezes for a while now  ::)

No disco here, I just retired when the sweat in my eyes made it too difficult...

This is a great track indeed, I never drove it before today.

First, didn't want to chase away the honorable C. Anamevil  ;D but I did suspect he ran the CA66 mod through IP joining, judging the chat. Hope you would return with a historics car, mate! ;)

Second I regret the "contact" I had with Doni. Even when I feel the move was borderline legit, Doni honestly didn't expect me I suppose...it denied him a continued fight with Andreas...

Quali was very good, and my laptimes seemed very good, despite thinking the 2 liter would be slower...but despite the long straights, handling > power

Got swamped at the start by the 3L cars, and had to settle for 4th and then 3rd after Axel's off on Lap 1. Then I lost it under braking for Stekkenwal, always a tricky point getting a straight braking zone...caught up with Andreas and Doni in their H16 powered cars. Andreas was feisty and solid as always, before I could outbrake him in Bedeldijk having a good tow. Then outaccelerated Doni towards the lefthander before Stroomdrift. In the race felt nothing, and tried to stay at the utmost left, but noticed Doni had dropped away...sorry buddy :(

Either Doni wasn't aware or didn't expect me and turnt in. Also the reason for passing in corners was my cornerspeeds were way higher than 3L cars and a good way to gain trackposition (since lacking topspeed/power). And the leaders were getting out of my sights...it sucked for Doni tho, but as I said, in the race felt the move was on...

Caught Tristan and raceleader Greg had an off. Took some laps to pass Tristan finally and make a gap before the s/f straight so he couldn't repass me before Bedeldijk, as he did before. Tris obviously had handling problems but covered the lines well, and ofcourse had the handy Honda power ;)

All in all an enjoyable and eventful race, at a great track, one of my personal favorites...good to see there were no issues..weird...well done Tris and Greg, 3L cars are hard to handle...thanks all for racing and thanks to Axel for hosting and organizing ;)

No Probs Robert, you did not chase me away.

My fault for not reading the race post correctly. I thought this would be a chance to try out the 66 Can Ams, which I have not tried until now. I have always had minor problems in joining UKGPL8 and for some reason I cannot join that server from IGOR and have to go through the IP address in GPL.
After several attempts the Can Am mod hooked up and I started to learn Assen with a new car......never a good idea!!

Then Robert pointed out that it was the 66 Grand Prix cars that I should be using  :wacko: :stupid:. So I quit to reload the correct cars, hoping that I could use the little knowledge I had of the track with a more familiar car.
But, the server refused to allow me to join and continually timed out?? ??? By then it was past the time that the race would have started anyway, so I watched TV.

Hope you guys had fun.

Sorry Clive you missed this race :o

For the 66 mod we use the 60fpsV2newmod, fester once made a post how to make this work (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12905.0) ;)

The IGOR join problem is caused imo by faulty season.ini's (caused by GEMs "sorting by directory")
I use the 67season.ini for all mods and add+move tracks manually in GEM to the right spot ;)

NP, Robert, and grats on the pole, victory and FTD.  Re our collision, I must confess to being astonished at your ability to get around the previous corner with such pace and then accelerate like a rocket to get inside my BRM.  I was taken utterly by surprise.  Must be the torque from the 4-banger.  In the end, it turned out to be a good thing as I then had a race-long task of playing catch-up to Andreas.  I must say that Andreas did a splendid job in the Lotus 33/Climax.  This is a car that I avoid like the plague.  That he got near-equal performance out of compared to my P261 is a fine testament to his drive.  Quite pleased with my performance improving substantially as the race progressed as I figured out what followed what in terms of corners and which gear was best for the job.

Cheers buddie :) I think I was able to maintain higher cornerspeeds with the lighter 2L car, especially entering and midcorner keeping momentum...I thought taking a 2L would give me a disadvantage, but testing with a BT19 after the race the laptimes were about the same...
