RACE ONE

Grid/server capacity: 22

Track: Nurburgring (Sprint)

Cars allowed: Ford Capri RS 2600.

Skin pack Download this (http://www.mediafire.com/download/bb9e9ono73ur7q7/Ford_Capri_RS_2600.zip). All drivers need to download these skins and add them to your Ford Capri folder.

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (10 mins)
Race 1: 20:30 (12 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Early race start time.

Giving today's races a miss due to severe back pain, which is nothing extraordinary, but today very heavy.
Hot-water bottle looks like the better method of choice  :P

Have fun guys and see you next week.

Apologies for quitting the second race and not continuing , but I was just sooooooo frustrated at my inability to keep my car under control, that I hit the "Escape" key!!!  :taz: :taz: :taz:

In both races the car setup would suddenly give progressive oversteer out of some corners, and once it had started there was nothing I could do but perform a slow 360, or a graceful 90 into the barriers. It is probably my heavy right foot, but no matter how I tried I could not keep the ruddy thing under control. :cursing: :cursing:

Grats to the podiums and finishers in both races who obviously have a more cultured right foot than I do, or maybe it was just oil on the track??  ::)

2nd - Erling

3rd - [DTR]_Franky_Leone  :thumbup2:

Thanks to everyone who took part. We don't often use these cars so it was good to give them a proper run.

I dont like drive on the last version of Nurburgring becuase the first 4 corners are useless and not interesting, just good for ruining a good lap, specially  the corner3. If was possible i m ready to sign a petition for the abolition of Mercedes Arena !!!
Second negativo point.........I dont understand why on setup sheet of Capri 2600 wheel alignment is blocked (Toe in ? how i can say in english ?), This is absurd ! Specially on a racing car, the same thing for the anti-rollbar..... I am baffled !!!

About race1 first thing grats Geoffers for 1:41,9, I made the same lap time on practice but with a different setup than yesterday because it was too risked and i wanted just finish the race so i prefered lose 0,3 seconds and bring the car until the finish.
One caould ask to me why i dont use one setup for qualy and one different for race, i answer that for 10min of qualy not have sense.
Honestly i dont sure if without the Geoffers mistake i could win, he was very fast, but is true also that i not forced, just i controlled him, between me and Geoffers those who had to attack was him.

Preparation for these two races has been the hardest yet for me this entire season. I'm limping today, thanks to a blister on my right foot, courtesy of the metal accelerator of my G27; that's how hard I had to practice  :sweatdrop:

After my enjoyable race at AVUS in our 1st round, it was my impression that the Capri and I had reached an understanding. Thus a very rude awakening to arrive at Nürburgring Sprint and find it every bit as disagreeable as before (this one's female for sure...).  Tried every conceivable setup tweak (and a few inconceivable ones), trying to prevent it from swapping ends under braking, especially at that confounded T1.  Finally arrived at one that allowed me to brake with a modicum of confidence.  Probably sacrificed some front end grip, to the detriment of cornering speeds, but what good is it to potentially be a few 10th quicker, if you spin and lose 10+ secs every other lap ?

Didn't match my pb in qual, but didn't matter - wouldn't have changed my grid position anyway. Got an ok start, retaining 3rd place. Matt slipping past at T1 and snatching it wasn't part of the plan though. He handed it back when he spun next lap. Couple laps later, Geoffers went off at the chicane, lending me 2nd.  He was soon on my case. Contemplated if I should just let him past, as I was clearly holding him up.  Wasn't even sure if he would prefer that or not, but he solved my dilemma by slipping past on the inside at T1.

Chasing pack was fairly far back by now, so when T1 finally got me on the penultimate lap, I had plenty of time to recover, so kept 3rd place.

Grats to Ziu & Geoffers - and Ziu for winning the 'series'  :balloon:

Commiserations to Kurt; hope your back gets better soon!

Cheers,
Erling

These cars are a handful, that's probably an understatement. Although I span off loads of times in both races I did enjoy trying to tame these  :censored:

Shame that a couple of the skins gave me problems when it came to compiling the results last night. I have already said that you should all delete the #9 car please. Once I have investigated further I will post and tell you all if any other cars have to go.

I think it's good that occasionally we give these neglected cars a run out.

The good news  ;) is that we see these cars again in Season 17 (see, I knew you would be pleased).

Details will released during December. Keep an eye out as due to this site being down over Christmas I am trying to finalise all of Season 17 before the Christmas break.

Sorry about quitting and posting like I did guys...it was the sheer frustration of the moment and hitting the escape key was more a case of hitting something, rather than someone.!!! after spinning that stupid Capri for what seemed like the 25th time. ???

It makes me feel a little better to know that others struggled with these beasts and not everyone managed to completely tame them. In fact hearing that Erling put in so much practice to achieve the pace he did, actually is somewhat  comforting  ;) As all I managed was a few laps on the server on Monday afternoon just to check my connection. In fact I thought that both races were at Nurby, ??!!  must read the posts more carefully  ;) ::)

I cannot thank Tony enough for not only organising this series, but promising us the joy of driving them again in season 17!!................I can hardly wait  :-\ But at least I will know what to expect next time....maybe??  :whistling:

Yes, that's correct. Sorry I should have said that.

For Season 17 there will be an updated skins download with the rogue cars deleted.

Well, I really need to read the overview beforehand..

Didn't get much chance to practice until the weekend. So, powered up GTL, went to Nuerburgring grabbed the 1st Dagenham Dustbin which I thought had a nice paint job and set about learning the track and concocting a set up which at least enabled me to keep it on the tarmac. I know what your thinking.. Wrong Nuerburgring.. Erm no, Wrong Capri. I didn't even know the showroom had more than 1 variant.

So I arrive a little late join the sever and "Car not on server".. wtf Full panic mode, then I realised my mistake. Ok, It's just a different Capri, pull my set up across and I'm good to go. Erm no... (Again). The damm thing was un-drivable, a few panic adjustments to the coast side diff and it felt a little better but still swapped ends at the mildest provocation.

Lined up 7th on the grid and the flag dropped. Got a good start passing Bob and Clive on the run down to T1. Tony though got an even better start and passed all 3 of us by the exit of the 1st turn.

Began to lose ground on Tony almost immediately and had the pursuing pack climbing all over me and at the end of the lap Clive was back through. Then on the approach to T1 on lap 2 the inevitable happened and I got into an almighty tank slapper and veered off into the armco. By the time I had found my way back onto the track everyone was long gone and I rejoined a very distant last.

Caught ccstevecc who was having his own dramas into T1 on Lap 3 and made the pass as he went wide into T3 so was back up to 9th and set off after Roguk. A few laps later I saw him miss his braking point into T5 and I was up to 8th which was as high as I would be able to manage. I did think I may have a slim chance of 7th when I saw Tony Pit but he got out a good 5 seconds or so in front of me and I was not able to close the gap.

I did learn as the race went on that using the engine braking and only a small amount of brake gave me a better chance into turns but of course that meant my braking distances were very long (Even for me). So it appeared that while a brake bias of 57/43 in the hot Capri might be a good idea it obviously wasn't the case for this one.

Congrats to Ziu, Geoffers and Erling for the podium.

TTFN
John.

Forgot about me pitting. I had been racing with Matt and at one corner (forget which one) I felt my move on him could be considered ungentlemanly so did a drive through as penance.

Because there is just the smallest outside chance, that I might possibly do something wrong.................. ::)

When you casually say "delete 9md and az10" from the Capri folder, is it as simple as that?  I just navigate to the Capri folder in the TEAMS area and find the 2 files named above and delete them?

Now that I finally appear to have eradicated all of the errors from my GTL install, I am rather keen to keep things that way  ;)

Both good races for me.  Had my usual bad start and was passed by several before T1.  I drove the races as a endurance event in this weird car, very cautiously.  Spent a lot of time with the set-up and got it half way controlable for me.  Had one small partial spin out.  I set it up for me with almost no rear brakes and used "trail braking" I think they call it were you brake hard early and then keep some throttle on and then ease around the corner.  I just hope the real Capri wasn't this quirky of a driver.  It was considered kind of a "girly" car here in the USA, was marketed that way in the adds.  Might have been more popular but was sold in Lincoln/Mercury dealers where older people shopped for cars. Came out at the same time as the Mustang, Camaro, ect hit the streets and I'm sure the sporty car buyer looked at it and said why buy a 4/6 cylinder car when I can get a V8.  I know I never gave it a second look in those days.
Grats to the podium and Ziu for the championship.......

Bob M.

If it helps people I can upload my setup for this car to the online folders tonight. It is still a bit tricky to drive, as my second race proved, but it may help to knock a bit of time off.
