That's good news Mark.

Not so good news. I almost have the track memorized. :)

Well, that didn't seem fair at all. I thought about taking the Lotus 49 but that has a DFV. Mark would have had a much bigger advantage had I taken the 49.

Congrats Mark and Andreas. Finishing is a feat itself. I doubt I could have finished a year ago. When UKGPL ran a Fun race here, I had to reset numerous times. I have the track memorized now. I still forget where I am occasionally so I'm not slowing soon enough or slowing too much at times. There's still a lot of room to improve my racing line too but it's good to be able to keep the car on the track most of the time now.

I practiced 1 hour the previous weekend. I managed 8:07. I knew I'd break 8 minutes at some point. I was surprised I did it easily after a few laps with Axel and Andreas an hour or two before the race started.

It's a shame Mark got such a lousy start. He may have caught me later. I got too excited during the race. I had an ideal lap of 7:55 showing after two fast sectors. I wanted to try to go as fast as possible for the rest of the lap but I quickly buried the nose of the car into the end of a stone wall. I thought the reset ruined any chance of improving the 7:57 I had already set. I misread the handicaps so I included a stop and go with my reset. Surprised I got 7:56, considering I started that lap in the pits and I finished that lap with 11.5 gallons of fuel remaining. 7:54s might be easy if I try this again.

I was a little nervous at the start. I thought somebody might miss their braking point and hit me at the first sharp right. Instead I missed my braking point and almost spun. I just got the car out of the way before Axel got there. :)

You should have chose a better car Doni.

It's a shame Dean, Carlos, and Jani didn't make it.

Thanks guys. I enjoyed learning the track better.

Fortunately I had spent some time a month ago trying to learn this crazy track.  I'd tried to use the Ferrari but found it far too twitchy, so I used the BRM instead, which was much more drivable.  I'd planned to do a bit of a test to see which car was actually faster but then my pedals had to go in for fixing (that's the 'before' picture).  Got some refresher practice in the night before.  Felt good in qualifying but then was stunned by Greg's pace.  Then the engine blew at the start.  Managed to get back to second but it was apparent Greg was too quick to catch, and I was paranoid about the engine blowing again over the many hops and jumps round there.  Everything felt pretty good, I think had 1 quick spin, but really playing a waiting game.  Congrats to Greg and Andreas.
