Season 30 Amateurs Trophy – Round 7 – Castle Combe

Castle Combe Circuit is a motor racing circuit in Wiltshire, England, approximately 20 miles (32 km) from Bristol. The circuit is based on the perimeter track of a former World War II airfield, and was opened for racing in 1950. The Castle Combe airfield opened in May 1941 on land of the Castle Combe estate, owned by the Gorst family, operating as RAF Castle Combe for seven years before being decommissioned in 1948. It was a fighter-base for Polish airmen. Castle Combe Circuit opened in 1950, and the first meeting was staged on 8 July by the Bristol Motorcycle & Light Car Club. Over the next few years, the circuit attracted star names such as Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Roy Salvadori and John Surtees. The circuit's first motorcycle event was in 1952, organised by the Wessex Centre.

Castle Combe has staged many different motorsport disciplines over the years. In 1997, Nigel Greensall established a new lap record. His Tyrrell 022 lapped the circuit at 130.93 mph (210.71 km/h). However, this was the last year that the circuit would remain unaltered. A tragic accident involving the death of a spectator forced the owners into installing two new chicanes in order to slow the cars down. The new layout was slightly longer at 1.85 miles (2.98 km), and was completed over the winter of 1998-1999. Formula Three returned to Castle Combe in 2001. However, it would not stay long. In 2005, the circuit was issued with a noise nuisance order, which meant that the circuit had to reduce its noise level. The British Formula Three Championship and the British GT Championship were both louder than permitted, and so were prevented from returning.

Well I expected to see more cars during the race on a short track but it wasn't to be. Still great fun though at a track I love.

I didn't have the pace to trouble Philippe but kept him honest in the opening laps until he slowly pulled away.

A great second place with probably my most consistent race ever, 3 laps in the 1:03s and the rest were 1:02s and 1:01s.

Thanks to Billy for moving over and allowing me the line to lap him.

Looking forward to Silverstone.

it is unfortunate that there have so few pilots.
initially we were 8, and after 3 rounds, there remained more than 3.

I have great respect for ukgpl league, as well as for administrators.

I do not want the "amateur" series is finish, through my fault.
Many try to return next time, I will take the cooper until the end
We were in about the same time with Miner, during the race.

I should be happy to have won, but I am rather sad.
I sincerely hope that you will return many, and you will remain on the server during the race

Long live to Ukgpl   :winkiss: :winkiss:

Sorry Jani to have ruin your race at the first turn  :(
My gearshift was not working at this moment and I was confused when I had to brake !

About the race, I closed the gap with Billy when I was suddenly disconnected on lap 12.

As Philippe mentioned the racing would have been more fun with more drivers. I felt I should have been a bit quicker but just could not nail the exits on a couple of corners. Consequently when David disappered it was a long lonely drive to the finish, apart from when I was lapped. I did find this track very monotonous. Next race at Silverstone should be better.
