Shame about the drakonian F1 style cut tracks on the corner exits. Go over those curbs and youve gained an advantage! Does spoil the enjoyment.

I can't set the server up until MJ has the race tread up so I know track config and time of day. I'm not stopping in the middle of a race to configure it to satisfy your needs. Especially so when racing my favourite NSU.

Had a go with it and the Ferrari is indeed fun to throw around here.

Was getting quite crowded on the server aswell so I did my best to advertise the league, don't think it mattered much though.
Most were just unresponsive and a few others were racing for different leagues, but hopefully a few will have been persuaded by my incredible advertising skills.....  ::)

Got a new videocard and power supply coming tomorrow so hopefully I won't completely wreck my pc before the race ( I'm a total noob when it comes to these things  ;D )

Count me in for this. Not sure if I'll be driving the BMW or Ferrari.
Not done a single lap with those cars yet, nor I had time for a setup, but the track is too good to say no ;D

If you don't want to muck about with booking make sure MJ or myself know your car and skin choice so you can be added to the entry list.

Will be joining this one again, and will do my absolute best not to make a total meal of anyone elses race this time.

I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the replay yet, I felt like a tw*t after the race, so much so I didn't want to even read the race thread... I don't know what came over me, I think after the first contact I got fired up and in desperation to make back places I managed to lunge wildly into anyone and everyone.

This time to ensure it doesn't happen again, I'll be starting from the back (so no quali laps) and will only start racing after everyone has settled down. Not only will this ensure others don't have to worry about me plowing them off the track, it should also help me gain some confidence back, as after the last one all confidence I had was long gone.

As for the race itself last week, I had intended to come into the pits and fix the bodywork (had no front downforce), but as soon as I parked up the 'pitconfig' app which I hadn't configured added a tank of fuel, changed tyres and didn't fix the bodywork, so I went round again and retired - as I would have been getting lapped I had no interest in ruining the leaders races aswell...

So I apologise again for my behaviour, and am now putting it behind me and looking forward to Austria tomorrow.

I recommend going for pole position and driving off into the distance ;D.

Practise starts/first laps offline with the ai. They're complete idiots the first few corners so it's a good training to be cautious.  ;D

I'd advise against not qualifying, just focus the first few corners on keeping everything whole and settle down and play it safe ( unless someone leaves the door wide open  8) )

Honestly I've felt pretty good at first laps the whole of the GT3 season, and the GT2 race at Barca I felt confident racing close and fair, but after the nonsense at Portimao, I just have lost all confidence and trust (in myself) for close racing :/

Good shout with AI practices though, I'll be on it tonight.

Gary just qualify for best place you can. I wouldn't sit out qually just because you had a bad race. The more starts in the pack you have the better you will become at them. Worked for Romain Grosjean  ;D

Simon, yes good idea to move the lap stat link to the first race post (although I didn't realise you all read it  ;) )
Im on my phone so will have to do it later.

Just some tips for lap 1. Stay on the outside of the turns, if you outbrake yourself, you will just end up outside the track, but you probably won't bowl people off track.
When approaching T1, I often use the same braking point as I do the rest of the race. But because of the standing start, you are at a slower pace at the braking point, but that is compensated for the cold tyres. They quite balance out and normally means you brake a bit too early that way.
And don't wait for the guy infront of you to brake, decide your own braking point, and if you see you braked too early, brake a bit less or coast a bit.

You probably already have Helicorsa, but that's a must have as well. And don't forget, even Vettel messes up all the time  ;)

Haha, I did have a chuckle to myself when Vettal cruised into Rosberg on Sunday - looked quite familiar

Cheers for the tips guys, I have been practising (offline) though will definitely be having a go with AI for race starts.

jeez I'm struggling here  :( spent nearly hour and a half banging around the track trying all sorts of setup changes but I'm still languishing in mid 32's  :'(
shame no one else on the server, just me and then Spanner for last half hour.  GT2's seem to suit you Mark, good pace again.

Gary, I'm not going to qualify either so I can be next to you at the back to really get you paranoid and worried hehehe

Seriously, as already said, just go for it and qualify as normal. You just had a bad race. I did exactly the same as you in a GT3 race to a driver so it does happen and as we saw, Vettel can screw up also. Helicorsa is well worth it and I started using it after my bad GT3 race. I don't think not qualifying will make much difference so just have some fun.

Lol for once i've chosen a car that i'm fastest in and prefer over driving a car that i've not driven before! I wasnt quicker in the GT3 lambo but decide to go with it as, well, it looked nice!

There looked room for improvement Mark. Need to take out the understeer and manage the oversteer, helps up the corner speed. Your gearing was way off, which affected you down the straights.

Spent a fair amount of time last night practising against the AI - it was actually a lot of fun - I meant to only be practising starts but ended up actually racing them a fair bit too!

It was definitely useful practice - I'll probably end up doing it before every race, as it really familiarises you to the sort of speed you're doing into T1 with cold tyres - which during the event of course you only ever do once, ie the race, so you're going in effectively blind.

The AI aren't the best on the first lap, they are a bit robotic in the first corner, but it was definitely good to see when I should be braking to keep a safe distance.

Jeff, both Spanner and myself were commenting on the downshifts not working. Spanner blamed his wheel  ::)

Hope you'll reconsider Jeff, don't want Maikel unchallenged for the title  :fencing:

I got a decent start but Shark was a bit of a road block and that allowed Spanner and nfsw to get past, but after losing a couple of secs to nfsw trying a pass I then settled down, caught and passed him and chased after Spanner, my hot breath caused him to spin ;) and I then got about chasing down Shark again. Caught him and a half spin from him in the last corner enabled me to get passed. Happy with the result :)

First race I've done using the Oculus Rift in a long time too, it's been too hot to strap it on my head over the summer but now the evenings are cooling down it's usable again. The immersion is amazing, cars look so solid in 3d especially when your glued to their bummer  ;D

Excuses excuses Jeffy Jeff Jeff. ;) :-*

I only discovered tonight why I had such a mare at Portimao and why I've been having difficulty in the Maserati Cup at Core, my brake pedal was only picking up a fraction of the full reading, so I was having to touch it like an egg and resulted in a lot of lock ups. Once that was fixed I could push the pedal properly and drive again. Wish I'd realised what was going on last week, wouldn't have been so flipping useless.

Had a fun race tonight being pipped to the podium by my team mate when I lost it over the kerbs on the final turn.

What downshift protection ?   ::)
Seriously though, I'm not even noticing it on the Ferrari, compared to how terribly annoying it is with the Maserati GT4.

Had a fun race though, was right on Jeffrey's tail in the beginning so I knew it was just a matter of waiting till his tyres dropped  ;D
Still was a great battle going side by side in turn 2.

And more importantly !!! I managed to not spin or make any stupid mistakes.... Progress  8)

Little tip for my fellow Ferrari users: Shift earlier...
Seriously though, after 7500 rpm it loses alot of power even though it has a limit of 8500 rpm. I noticed it when watching the replay on some  ;D

Really fun race this time, glad to enjoy it again.

Spent a lot more time than usual practising, and it showed, qualifying P3 :D

Had a average start, was rightfully cautious after last weeks nonsense, and somehow came out of the first couple of corners in P3! Then, I made the most ridiculous spin on the second fast corner, all by myself not under any pressure. I didn't really care at the time, I was just glad to have not taken anyone out of the race

Was about dead last, then began working my way back up - I never made it far as I had lost so much time, but I had a lot of fun nevertheless, I think the pressure was off and I was free to enjoy it.

At the end I was catching NFS for P5, and was pretty exciting getting visibly closer each lap, but alas we ran out of laps  :P To be fair, even though I was gaining I think I'd have struggled to pass, would have needed a mistake to get passed.

Also its a shame to see you go Jeff, I can't say I've had any problems with downshift protection myself - if anything, I'm glad its there. Hopefully you change your mind :)

Quiet race but also enjoyable. Very slow lap times for me and qualified 9th out of 10. Made a decent start and had a look up the middle on the run to turn one but no options opened so settled back on the outside with Mark on the inside. Held station for most of the lap but got a good exit on one of the corners that would of seen me challenging Mark on the run to the last but one corner. However, he run deep which spurred me on to get on the throttle early to make my move but it was asking too much and the back end stepped out. Ran a little wide and lost a place. Also gained a place as it was where Gary spun. A few laps battle and finally ended up finishing 7th not seeing any other cars for the rest of the race.

I do like these GT2 cars. Just wished we had more than three cars to choose from.

Meh!

As ever I get to the night and it all feels different, lower grip, no temps in tyres and kept losing the back in the second corner. Thought the tweaks I did to the setup helped but come the race the tyres were bright green and a little too hot! Never used softs for a race before, but they were mainly blue in all the practise I've done so had no worries.

I was getting a complex everytime I approached the second corner plus trying to run behind Simon meant I couldn't realx and drive how I wanted, was having to constantly drive around what he was doing. Checking up mid corner will never end well, oh look its the second corner ::)

Having spun there 3 times during the race I decided to give up as I was a bit annoyed with how it went! Looking forward to a proper track  :P

Real night to forget for me. It was odd like I completely lost my racing mojo for this car and track combination. No matter what way I went with setup I just couldn't find the pace needed so it must boil down to something I was getting very wrong over a lap.
I over-did (fruitless) practise the eve before and my ribs were giving me grief but not even sure it was that, I just didn't have any pace  :'(
Qualified 9th  :( span on lap 2 of the race and dropped to stone last with a 10+ time deficit to the nearest car. Shocking! Trundled around for 17 pointless laps seeing no one but SRWs vette as he span into a wall. I couldn't make any in-roads into the car 10 secs up the road so retired the car and saved my ribs.

I don't get how I could be so off the pace compared to last week  ??? And I normally like this track!

Yeah I spun on L1 but caught you again - here's a pic of me passing you  :P We actually made a tiny contact just fractions after this (happy to say I didn't do anything wrong, would have not been able to show my face here again if I did ), just pointing out I did leave enough room, and I was ahead  ;D
