We will be using my server for this race.  I haven't used it for a while so I have set it up as a practice sever to give everyone a chance to check they can connect OK.

Please test your connections, any problems post something on this thread.

Hi, Phil!  :)

Just jumped onto the server...07:30 my time...to pop in a couple of laps.  It ran a treat.  I'm sure that we're good to go!  :)

Thought I'd try to avoid any first few corners mishaps by starting near the back, but there weren't any. GJ all on clean start.

Worked my way up to 7th (hard work it was too, getting past Bastian) but wasn't having any luck building a gap over him and Marco. Then engine let go on lap 9 with a dangdangdang noise (that was probably coming from the cockpit, tbh).

Tough race! Spent the first few laps getting pressured by Andreas before managing to break the tow. Began to slowly catch Syd for 3rd and proceeded to have an-almost race long battle. It was impossible to pass Syd in the 3 ltr Brabham so simply did my best to harry him through the corners. Eventually he clipped a kerb on the loop which pushed him wide, allowing me to pass. Hard luck there Syd, you were solid as a rock up until that point  :).

Was content with 3rd place, but unexpected got promoted to 2nd after Greg's unfortunate demise. Congrats to Tris for the win and to Andy for rounding the podium.

Thanks for providing the server Phil, no issues my end  :).

Thanks to Phil for a solid server.
I thought that this was a three litre race until tonight. Ok then, I'll take the little BRM.
Kept my position in the clean start, following Andreas and a gap built up behind me.
Andreas had an unexpected bad exit after a while and I just sneaked through. He stayed just a few tenths behind for the rest of the race as others in front dropped out. I could hear him lifting early on just about every corner to give me some space. I suppose I was holding him up a bit, especially in the last two corners, but I had the position and he required a mistake from me. Intense stuff. Very well driven, Andreas.
Well done to all who finished, commiserations for those who didn't.

Server connection was great for me.

The option of the 3,0L car was just enough to keep me in touch with a few others. After the first few laps I had settled into P10, behind my team mate Rainier. With the tow & extra horse power I could follow, but never quite enough to attempt a pass. After a few laps we picked up Bastian recovering from running wide at the last corner. We stayed in that train for about 20 laps until I missed my brake point into the loop. Race over.
Saved me the challenge of being lapped without the aid of Pribluda.

Results uploaded.  Pleased the server was fine, no discos or warpy connections.  Wish I could say the same for my driving, using gear lever with left hand now so I am making it hard for myself.  Missed one too many gears and engine expired just over half distance.  Relieved to score some points

Seems something broke when I went wide. I simply couldn't turn into right corners any more. I was doing 1.15 laps after that for a while, got caught by two cars and then the engine exploded with 5 laps to go. So something that was looking good for a podium ended up in retirement.

Busted engines seemed to be the order of the day as a number of members...including me...suffered blowups.  Hardly used to the point of abuse, I was considerably annoyed at this result.

Grats to Sam on a good P2 and to Andrew for rounding out the podium.  Gutted for you, Greg.  :(  No plaudits at all for Tristan, I'm afraid, as he claimed pole position by slipstreaming me in Q then promptly jacked me around on what was to be my final qualifying lap.  Manners and respect, young fella!  Apparently, my giving you the chop on the straights did not compute.

As for the race, I decided to DQ myself to start dead last after missing my PB by about 1/2s as I didn't want to start mid-field with the dangers of the Loop on Lap01.  Cruised it down to that treacherous corner with a good cushion of safety ahead.  It was quite a surprise to see that everyone survived the pass through the Loop.  I closed on Phil over that first lap but then he got crossed up coming off the back straight and I had to spin to miss him.  Groan...  Just passed 1/4 distance, I managed to work my way back up to P9 just ahead of Dave and not far behind Marco when the BRM V-8 went off-song.  C'est la guerre...

Phil...  Server seemed to work fine but I did get a quick spike in my Q bar at one point.  It settled back nicely, tho.  TY for hosting.

Most, or all of us have experienced this, and it's not the Sim that's changed.  It's the fps that's changed.  I'd guess one gear change in 10, or maybe it's 1 in 50, hits a small timing glitch.  The fix would be to slow every gear change if manual, and hope others nearby do the same. :euro:

Ah...  I wasn't aware of that potential result of the fps patch, Martin.  TY for the headsup on it but it's unlikely to mollify my driving technique.  It will remain suspect.  ;)

A couple of other notes...

We missed Evil.  MIA.  Hope that's not a trend.

Also, after retiring early, I stayed on the server to record the entire race replay and did not sign off til everyone had crossed the S/F line.  Why, then, would my reason for not finishing be listed as a 'Disco'?

Hi Doni

The server tends to list everyone as disco no matter what reason.  I amended the reason for me and Billy on importing the results simply because I know what happened to me and Billy.  However I can manually amend the retirement reason at any time.  So I've been through the GPLRA Mechanical Report and checked for all exploded engines and the replay for the remaining drivers and updated the actual reason in the results table.

The results now show we actually had 5 engine failures.  Not sure if this is more than usual because we don't routinely correct the retirement reasons.

Thanks for that update, Phil.  Kinda figured using 'Disco' was just being expedient.

FYI...  Dave, too, experienced an engine failure in the last miles and had to stroke it in to a slow finish.

Unfortunately a beautiful disconnection
It took away the opportunity to fight with the fast Tristan!
Congratulations to the Podium

Also you drove very very well Andy. Most of other Racers would make a mistake with a car driving so close for most of the race, but not you.  :thumbup1: I enjoed the battle very much. Always a pleasure to race such an exellent Driver.  :fencing:
Congrats to all Finishers!

Congrats Tristan, Sam, and Andy! Nice job guys.

Gutted for you, Greg.

It's no big deal Doni. I appreciate the sympathy though. I enjoyed myself. I only had two goals, enjoy myself and don't wreck anybody. I almost succeeded except I forgot to not wreck myself. :)

Unfortunately a beautiful disconnection

That's a shame. You had a good opportunity to finish well. You disappeared entering the 90. I backed off slightly worrying that warp could knock both of us out. I didn't back off for long though. I knew Tristan would leave me behind if I did.

Thanks Syd. I appreciate your consideration and discipline. I tried my best not to do anything too erratic so you wouldn't be put in a situation that you couldn't avoid hitting me. I may never have got away from you had Piero not discoed. The gap, his disco, left between me and Tristan, allowed me to use Tristan's tow to break away from you.

I did my best to err on the side of caution throughout most of the race. I tried to leave Piero plenty of room to work. I didn't want to be disappointed with myself by wrecking him again. Once I was behind Tristan, I tried to apply a little pressure. I quickly released I should be patient and leave him some room too. Plus, Tristan was faster than me. It was too early to take any chances and Syd and Sam would catch us if I slowed Tristan much.

I destroyed an engine too. I wasn't surprised though. I was very abusive to the engine early in qualifying. Being in Tristan's tow during most of the race allowed me the luxury of short shifting most of the time.

I had a hard time closing the gap to Tristan after Piero's disco. I was giving it everything I had. The same thing was happening as Tristan began running laps in the 1:07's. He was beginning to break away from me when I wrecked. I lost my discipline and got a little impatient when I wrecked. I tried to make up a little time entering the Loop. That was a bad move.

Tristan, I hope you didn't move over on me intentionally when a lapped car slowed you. Had I held my line, it may have knocked both of us out the race. You got lucky I was focused and determined to avoid any contact.

I got lucky to get fast lap. The best I could have hoped for without a tow was 1:08.1-1:08.2. I was a little disappointed I didn't finish. I'd have liked to have tried a little longer to see what lap time I could have got before the race ended. If I could have kept it together, Tristan may have gotten me into the low 7s before the finish.

We missed Evil.  MIA.  Hope that's not a trend.

I noticed that too. I expected Clive to qualify not far ahead or behind me. I hope Axel's alright. I noticed his absence too.

Thanks guys.

:(  No plaudits at all for Tristan, I'm afraid, as he claimed pole position by slipstreaming me in Q
...well Doni, slipstream is full part of racing and it's autorized in this game and it's not my fault if you are on track at the same time than me, the qualifs are opend for all pilotes.....at last if you don't want that I profit of your slipstream, just let me go .....simple ! ...not like the next lap where you was  zig-zaging in the straignt line  and closing every doors for don't let me overtake you !? ( is it the fair play of a gentleman driver ? )
then promptly jacked me around on what was to be my final qualifying lap.  Manners and respect, young fella!  Apparently, my giving you the chop on the straights did not compute.
....just funny what you said when I look at the reaplay of my lap 5 in qualif .... where every body can see how you don't want to be overtaking !! and how you don't give up even when you are slower than you oponant....I give you my thanks of a young fella of 60 years old for your lesson of manners and respect.....little precision that all can see, I was in front of Doni , in the inside,  of T1 when ( for me ) a GPL bug append, but anyway Doni don't give up at one point where there are nothing to hope !!...a mutch better idea was to let me pass before that and take my slipstream to make a good time !

Exept this, my race was fun whith a big pressure of P.Mercaldo till the lap7 and then Greg take the relay....Lap 27 .Thornton go out at THE LOOP and I lost a little concentration and go while in the grass , I don't touch the rail but when I retake the track I spinn and try to stay on track ....
Tristan, I hope you didn't move over on me intentionally when a lapped car slowed you. Had I held my line, it may have knocked both of us out the race.
.....sorry for that Greg  I was in loose :/.....and be shure that I never do intentionaly sutch things ...just because I drive just like it was real and I don't want to die so young ;)

happy for this difficult win ...cu soon guys :)
