Title: UKGPL Season 30 (2016) Historic Trophy (66) - Mexico City - Oct 30

Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 9 – Mexico City

The Mexican Grand Prix was first held on 4 November 1962 at the Magdalena Mixhuca circuit. The circuit was the first international racetrack in Mexico and was built within a park in the center part of capital city of Mexico City. The race provided unique challenges for racing, standing at 2,240 (7,340 ft) above sea level, as well as the long, 180 degree, lightly banked and fast Peraltada corner that finishes the lap, in addition to being a bumpy racetrack from actively shifting soils beneath the circuit. The Mexican Grand Prix of this period was always the season finale Grand Prix, held in late October.

The first race, a non-championship affair which attracted a strong international entry, was won by Team Lotus with Jim Clark taking over the car of team mate Trevor Taylor to claim the win; Clark was black-flagged after receiving a push-start at a confused race start. The meeting was marred by the death of young Mexican star Ricardo Rodríguez who as a teenager was already a works Ferrari driver. Rodriguez died after injuries received crashing a Rob Walker run Lotus 24 on the Peraltada. The Formula One World Championship arrived the following year with Clark winning again, equalling Juan Manuel Fangio's record of most victories in a single season.

This will be a 2 Litre event.

Sorry I missed last Sunday. I'll be absent this Sunday too. I need to cut my driving to two days a week for a while. Maybe even 1 day a week. I have too many things to do at the moment. It may be a while before I'm back on Sundays. Have fun guys.

Grats to the podium.
I miscalculated the fuel and ran out with four to go.
Apologies to Sam, I made a slight contact in the hairpin on lap 2, and you spun out. I waited for you to re-pass me, and went from around 7-8 to maybe 11-12. Overtook Bastian and Andreas on the track and I was back in 7th I think when the engine started to sputter. Had a good fight with Andreas before that. I had too much speed on the straights for Andreas to overtake, so I was pretty confident I could stay ahead.

No worries Syd, these things happen in racing. Appreciate you waiting for me to recover.

My race effort was an inconsistent mess after that. Pace wasn't too bad and had great battles with several drivers, but ultimately the nervous rear end on my car was a bit too overwhelming for my talent at the wheel.....

Congrats to Tris, Clive & Doni  :).

I thought Honda 3L vs all these little Brabham/Lotus 2L would have been the right choice.
But it was clearly not :)

Grats to Tristan for his win ...and to Marco : only driver to have finished 8 races /8 !

I don't think the 3L cars had a great advantage here. It helped on the straight but not so good in the twisty section. Reasonably happy with my race, kept in touch with other cars for most of the race & apart from one small spin late on kept it clean.

Another fine victory for Tristan!  Grats on that drive.

Clive doing a super job in the little BT11/BRM for a fine P2.

A surprise P3 for me thanks to some reasonable pace, some early passes and mostly, Axel's hard luck.  Again.  Geeezzz, Cookie...  I scoped the replay cap to note your demise.  That connection hiccup couldn't have come at worse location.  No, not on a straight away where it might have been absorbed without any drama.  Oh, no, not that.  In a corner lined with Armco.  Sigh...  :(

Off the start, I bounced Andrew(another fine drive from he)and took up station behind Marco as we approached T1.  I was very careful to monitor everyone ahead expecting trouble and I certainly didn't want to be the author of any grief.  MM skipped a bit wide to the left at a crucial point and I took the opportunity to poke my nose down underneath him to scoop a second position.  Late in the opening lap, Piero's 4-banger Coventry-Climax mill went on strike in a big way and promoted me to the lofty position of P4 at the end of the first lap.  Well!  :)

Tris, Axel and Clive were just up ahead but inching away.  Marco was soon displaced by Dean as my pursuer and closing.  Knowing that DL was vying for the title and having suffered a cruel DNF at The Glen which really put him under the gun, I let him through for position to score more points and stay in contention.  Next lap and he rim-rode T1 and I took over P4 again only to hand it back to him in a carbon-copy move of my first wave-by just a few hundred metres on.  That didn't last long, tho, as his engine failed barely a lap later.  Not meant to be, Dean...

This left me in a fairly comfy P4 til Axel's DNF where I had good cushion back to Marco.  Andrew showed on my pit board at times but I could hold the gap reasonably well.  I got a hefty wake-up call when I saw Sam's name on the board.  !!!  He was closing consistently and upping my pace a tadge did little to preserve the margin.  Only some late slips from Sam gave me the breathing space I needed to hang on.  Seems I can score nothing but P3 placings this season.  :)
