Should be good combo. :)

EDIT: Completly different track than what I exptected  :(.
The low rev sounds of the RSR are terrible, it's like it's grinding gears or something, makes my teeth hurt  :-X

Oh my lord, have you tried this latest version of the track? It is amazingly detailed, it looked real on my triple screen setup  :o 8) The guy has gone to amazing lengths to make it look like a proper US track in the desert. Stunning work and a joy to blast along In these cars, especially sector 1 with its fast switch back esses.

1:58 for me so far. Took a few laps to get the hang of a couple of corners. More time to find with more laps.

There is only one Riverside that I know of, bit of an odd question! Not sure what Jeff was expecting either, this is a fantastic recreation of the original circuit.

I mixed it up with Infineon Raceway  ;D

Well you could have picked an easier track to start with! Even Zandvort felt nicer to drive around than this, at least that has defined braking points i know. An unknown car and an unknown track, and not much time to practise...

Kinda agree, very tricky track with blind corners with crests and braking zones in corners.

Your lucky I didn't choose the 917 can-am with this track!   It belongs here  8)

Only took me about 3 laps to learn the dodgy corners and keep it on the grey stuff, but of course would take a lot more to master it on the edge, but we are all in the same boat so it's a good leveller. It's only a fun race so not like you might drop valuable points through lack of track time  ;)

I have actually wanted to use this track for a while and had intended to race the shelby Cobras on it, so count yourself lucky  ;D

Haven't had much time to spend with the new Porsche's yet, and any I have has been with the quite frankly lovely Cayman and Panamera  ::) ;D

Will probably join in this race, though never heard or driven this track before, nor do I know how to drive something rear engined!  :o Should be fun though, hopefully I'll get a little practice in before hand :)

Not a bad combo these. Normally not a huge fan of clutch-racing ( because I'm terribble at it  ;D )
Took me 6 laps to not crash the car and barely get a 58  8)

Probably crash the car or blow up my engine/gearbox during the race.  ::)

Those brake noises crack me up though, time it right and you can create a catchy tune  :P

I found this nice wee video which I though was helpful since I know nothing about the circuit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zakPard0iKI

I think that's a shorter version from what I can gather, but it looks great, really excited to get some laps in. The esses at the start look a lot of fun, will no doubt be scooting across the desert sand plenty of times before I find the right line.

You Tube clip is the shorter Sports circuit layout.

Hopefully you guys are racing on the Can-Am circuit which is a great track (now a housing estate)

Optional skin pack added to first post. I collected some tasty historic skins together.  8) Just extract to your content/cars/RSR skins folder.

Did some laps yesterday - really surprised at how much I like both the track and car!

Besides not managing to keep it on the track under braking, I really enjoy the flow of the track and the way the car handles. Really struggled to get a clean lap in though, only scraped into the 57's, though my delta had shown a 56 was possible if I hold it all together... miles off the pace  :o

Think it'll still be a lot of fun, I'm not expecting to be in any way competitive but i'll be grinning anyway!

Got me the season pass yesterday and did some offline laps. The best version of the RSR yet.Feels like i am back in GT Legends, but then version 2.0 :P

I was in the .57 bracket too, so at least you will have people to race against. And maybe some of the fast guys want to share some bits of their setup knowledge..?

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Porsche RSR's at Riverside - Nov 2
Post by: garyjpaterson on November 01, 2016, 10:03:07 AM +0000
Should be good, only problem is I'm very very inconsistent - its just braking, I keep losing the rear unexpectedly. I think I just need some practice, the stock setup feels nice to me.

Also this is one of the few cars in AC that has brake temps, so the brakes will be cold and useless on lap 1 (beware!).

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Porsche RSR's at Riverside - Nov 2
Post by: Mark J on November 01, 2016, 10:35:18 AM +0000
If your losing the back end too often it sounds like your lifting off the throttle mid corners, a big no no in a rear engined 911. You need to control your steering via throttle inputs as these cars have exaggerated lift off oversteer, so slight lifts are good god getting the nose tucked in nicely. Do all your braking in a straight line, enter the corner slower then power out through the apex using all that rear traction goodness  :)

All my old school 911 experience And i will still get beaten by the aliens

I used a setup from the setupmarket without any tweaks, not the one from Mathieu, but the otter one, can't remember the name, but there were 2 when I checked. I won't upload it to stracker, as I use the setupmarket a lot, so giving them a download and maybe a vote could  be a boost for the makers to keep uploading, which will benefit us all and I don't want to take credit for the setup :).

Early December, although I may need a week or so until I manage a 'late night' race with you guys. I think 9pm UK time will be the equivalent of around 6am here!

I'll be back here for another 3 months sometime around march next year too.

Just did some laps online, so people who are in the high 50's can use the telemetry to see where they are losing. I think it's mostly braking into turn 8.

Phew, got down to low 1:55's once I got into more of a rhythm.  :) I think this is one of those tracks where more laps the better to find the best ways to attack each corner, especially in a vintage race car.

I guess we could for this event as we're only using 1 car type, everyone would just have to use the skin the server allocated to them. Bit late to suggest this now though.

I think we can only benefit from it, or people really want a certain skin, but IMo that doesn't outweight possible late joiners.

Must admit I thought about this today and meant to post on here to ask if we could avoid the booking system but work got in the way  :( tbh I don't really think we should use that anymore, surely we could just boot any random wrecker that turned up? Normally we will use the driver file but not so useful for fun races/ one offs.
What is the ' minorator abc ' software/app I've heard of for servers?

Don't know if it's instantly do able Pete but I'd be happy for it to be password accessible tonight using the race pw I had already set. That way late johnnies can join too  :)

What is the ' minorator abc ' software/app I've heard of for servers?

If servers have minorating then you will be rated by how clean you drive, km driven without contact. There is ABCNW ratings if I'm right, AB is just a fair driver (compareable to what we have here, good clean racing), C usually means still a noob, W is a wrecker and usually doesn't get into any minorating servers and N is for those who just start out. So if you have never driven on a minorated server you're still an N. Few clean laps and you're a C. But I think the system only really works if you only allow A and B rated drivers, I've raced on servers which allow ABC ratings and the driving was terrible, only a few good ones up front and a lot of terrible players in C  ;D

So if you want to put minorating into the servers limit in to AB only but then everybody needs to be atleast a B already  8)

http://www.minorating.com/ ( should've just put up the link, could've saved my some typing  ;D )

Ah well, that was fun while it lasted  :P

Made a decent start (fromt 4th) but realised my ping was SUPER high, like over 1000 - so for the decency of the others I pulled to the side and cruised round miles back.

After the first lap my ping came back down to a sensible level and I began racing again. It wasn't long before I was passing those who'd spun every other lap - I wasn't quick, but I was keeping it on the track!

I eventually got up to 3rd by maybe lap 7, then up to 2nd! Then around lap 11 or so Maikel in 1st pitted! I was then in the lead  :o!

But alas, by gearbox broke, it wouldn't select any gears  :'( My own fault, I wasn't clutching on downshifts half the time, and it took its toll.
Anyway, I'm proud to say I (briefly) lead a race of 70's 911's  ;D

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Porsche RSR's at Riverside - Nov 2
Post by: Jeffrey on November 02, 2016, 09:25:47 PM +0000
Well then...that went kinda different  ::).

Decided to start from the back and had same start as the guys infront, so nothing gained from that. Then I saw Gary go off (hindsight ping) and at some point Pete slowed right down, so I tried to go on his left, be he came back to the left and we touched. I was barely able to hold it, but he spun and collected the wall.

Then had some fun laps behind people, trying to find a sensible place to pass. I loved turn 8 for that, get the car on the inside while turning and braking.

When chasing Maikel in 1st, I ever so gently brushed the wall at the final corner. In real life the paint would have hardly been damaged, but here I lost around a second a lap  :-X.
When I got in the lead, I think Maikel pitted, so halfway through the race, I decided to pit as well, as I saw he didn't lose that much. I selected all repair options...stopped at the box...and saw the bar go down sloooooooowly. Think I stood there for 2 minutes or so  :-\.

Atleast the car was a bit better after that, as I wanted to get into the 52's for the race.

I think just about everybody lead a lap at some point  ;D.

Grats Simon, pole and a win  ;)

Post by: Simon Gymer on November 02, 2016, 09:27:19 PM +0000
Gotta say that was hilarious. I had a grin on my face most of the way through that, despite my 2nd lap noob error going splat slowly into the wall at the first tight right hander and spinning off every 2 or 3 laps. Pole position wasnt worth having tbh cause Maikel was positioned level with me on the grid...WTF and he got away like a rocket ship. Was 3-4 seconds down the road after lap 1 as I took it super cautious. Still it came back to me in the end as the final laps I kept catching Stefan then falling off then catching him again, passing, falling off, catching him again, passing, falling off, until with 2 laps to go I got past for the final time and decided that I really should have be sensible on the last lap and not try to go too fast.

I didn't like the track, but the cars are quite good fun. Looked beautifully made, but the layout is well a bit on the silly side. Not sure whether that was good racing or not cause it was basically last man standing.

Still grinning mind you.

Well that was an adventure. Had zero practise so had to learn the track in qualifying :) Qualified last but one but decided to make an easy start and let Jeffrey go. Then just tried to stay consistent. Surprisingly my pace wasn't so bad and at one pointbI was up to 4th. However, I made some silly mistakes as I started to push more and list places. Had a great battle with Mark E and Maikel and was running 4th to the finish but lost all gears at the start of the last lap and finished 5th.

Overall, I totally loved the car and track and will be running this race with the AI for sure. Just a shame there are not other makes of cars to race with it.

Seems somethings gone screwy with the results processing. The log parser I use for the charts had me in 6th place when I bailed on the 2nd or 3rd lap.

I'm obviously in a minority here but I didn't enjoy tonight at all. Gave up using the Rift as the jagged 45 degree lines shimmering on armco was giving me a headache. Wasn't that much better on a normal monitor and I'm glad I'll never be rich enough to buy a Porsche as these are not remotely fun.

Race went kinda like I expected  ;D

Managed to qualify 2nd but like Simon said I was placed level with him at the grid...and on the inside aswell. Had a good start and was surprised that I could create abit of a gap. Then I traded paint with the last corner's wall, so I AC's term I completely smashed it against it....
Still the car wasn't handling that bad...or worse then before atleast. Then I took several pitstop in the sandbox a few times in order to make Jeffrey think I took a real pitstop so he would spend 2 minutes sitting there and me cruising by ( pure psychological warfare 8) )
Was getting into it abit somewhere during the middle of the race getting consistent laps and having a good battle with Michael and MJ right on my tail. And of course I start pushing the car more and ending in the gravel. 2 laps before the end I shifted to 3th instead of 5th. Poked my stick in the wrong hole, happens to the best of us....  ;D

I kinda liked it, though these cars aren't really my thing. They feel so alive they grow a consience and stop listening at what I tell them to do.  :P

I had a lot of fun with this combo  :) in hindsight I should have picked an easier track to ease us all into the deft handling RSR but riverside and the RSR are famous from the past together.

Couldn't get my act together in qually and bagged 3rd. Got a good start in the race chasing Simon ahead whilst Maikel looked like he was on nitrous!  :o
Simon lost it on lap 2 and I was a good 2nd place with a decent gap. However Jeff caught me on lap 3 then as I went to downshift with him closing my flipping gearstick fell off its mount  :'( - the clamp had loosened and I fumbled around trying to find a gear. This continued down the straight and i thought I'd blown the engine or gearbox with a few horrendous revving shifts from 5th to 3rd  :o I had to pull over and re-clamp the shifter to my chair  :'( I lost over 40 seconds and rejoined about half a lap behind the pack but decided to carry on the chase. I set several 1:55 laps and was pleased to find Maikel up ahead to give me someone to fight. Soon we caught Spanner and then Gary as they both had offs after some fun 3 car action. Then Maikel had a couple more offs and I ended up finishing with a 3rd place podium

Well done to Simon on the win and great drive by Stefan to get 2nd  :thumbup2:

I enjoyed myself, the cars are great. Loved all the steering input and cars moving about  8) Just hope I can find a league using them somewhere for a series   :)

Having never raced here before, I must mention how amazing that track is - both in terms of how well made it is and just the layout.

The car was for the most part enjoyable, but I'm just not man enough to handle it properly  ;D

Practice was terrible, couldn't match my times that I set a few days ago - but near the end when I'd given up all hope things started to come together. Qualy was okay, I managed to improve a bit to go 4th.

But in the race I really got into the groove and began to enjoy the car - sure I wasn't quick, but I was figuring out how to not throw it in the sand at Turn 8, which is why I went from last to near the front.

Wouldn't say no to another race here, just in a more tame car!  :P

Great fun yesterday! And thanks for the driving tips on these cars. Made my setup a bit on the safe side, which paid off in the end.
Made a good start and had Spanner on my case for the first couple of laps. In my quest for a straight line into T8 i got my front wheel in the sand. That slowed me down considerably and left Mark with nowhere to go. Sorry!
We both spun, luckily without too much damage. However we had to led the rest of the field go by before rejoining. From then on i kept it on the tarmac and after a while i found myself in front with Simon in hot persuit. It was big fun dicing with him, but eventually had to surrender in the final lap.

I love the way you really need to modulate the brakes and gas as well as all the steering input that is needed to get these vintage cars around a track quickly. I can think of a few other ones that would really shine on these old skool tracks! If even Sharky was enjoying himself with these cars,....
And yes please MJ,  keep feeding us these fine vintage cars now and then.

AC 2.0 is imminent!...

Not before we get 1.10, 1.11, 1.12 and so on...  :P

So what does 1.9.3 bring and 2 promise for the future?

1.9.3
- Improved DX11 initialization
- Fixed same samples volume going crazy during update
- Tweaked compressor parameters for external view, now it kicks in more relaxed
- Corrected electronics behaviour and street tyres typo on Porsche 911 Carrera S 991.2
- Added new section to video.ini to force refresh rate (only works in fullscreen mode):
ex:
[REFRESH]
VALUE=50

Glad people enjoyed a bit of vintage racing for a change. I love old school racing as much as modern racing and would love to run a classic series in tandem with a modern one but alas our numbers are never big enough to warrant the effort involved in setting up and practising for two separate series. If I knew I'd get a regular 15 drivers or more then it would be a different matter. So sadly we only get to use these cool older or individual cars as fun races or one offs.  :'(
I think next week we will try the gt4 caymans out but I would also like to run a race using either the can-am 917 or Moby dick 935's at suitable tracks. I had hoped that using the very latest content would grab more guys from Kunos but despite posting an ad for the race there, they obviously all prefer pickup races online than leagues. Seems to be the way it is these days.

I would be up for more vintage racing any time! I am sure a lot of RRL members too.

We even discussed if we should make a little one-off PGT race vintage style, featuring the Porsche Moby Dick or another car and the Carrera RSR 3.0 or something like that :D

so, yeah, definitely up for vintage racing!

There is a lot of quality historic racing content in AC now and a few tracks that suit nicely, it's just a shame that upto now there are no historic cars that can race against each other. We need some BMW batmobiles to take on the pork or McLaren can am v the 917. An Alfa against the escort would be cool with a 911 ST thrown in for good measure.
We also get the awesome Porsche 962 in the 2nd pack in November  8) be great if the sauber and Mazda can race against it competively.
I also love the brutal old f1 cars we have and don't use enough.

Now to me thats appealing!

I guess Porsche didnt want to have there cars directly compared against other manufacturers.

yes yes yes!
you could throw in the maserati gt4 too.. from what i saw these cars are fairly balanced to each other ;)

will the race be at a wednesday again?

btw, my v2 pedals just arrive and i love em already, even though i have to get used to them quite a lot :D its definitely a whole different world compared to my thrustmaster pedals.

I dont think the car is a true GT4 though, Porsche just using as a model name to highlight their hardcore road variant in the same vein as the GT2, GT3 and now for the Cayman, the GT4.

You're right, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport isn't homologated for the GT4 class, but you can upgrade the car into a "Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR" which is then a true and homologated GT4 racecar.
The differences between the normal GT4 clubsport and the Clubsport MR aren't very big though, so the speed difference between those two cars should be fairly small.

Here's a nice data sheet where all the differences are listed:
https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwiV342b9JLQAhXH6RQKHVtSCb0QFggmMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.manthey-motors.de%2FManthey-Racing-Broschuere-Porsche-GT4-Clubsport-MR-2016-EN.pdf&usg=AFQjCNEotMG3qFYZBRz2y9Mg5qY_tV55Og&sig2=fhRIS3J2_lkF4QLPIBTvXg&cad=rja

Ingame it actually depends on the track if the Maserati or the Porsche is faster. For example on tracks like Red Bull Ring or Nürburgring GP the Porsche is able to keep up with the Maserati, but on other tracks like Brands Hatch or Barcelona the Maserati is more than a second faster (according to the RSRlivetiming statistics).

Correctomundo  :). Have seen the 'gt4' part is causing confusion on the Kunos forum too  ;D
