Title: Team Shark Recruiting GTR Drivers
Post by: Simon Gymer on March 20, 2006, 02:02:01 PM +0000
I'm looking to recruit some more members of Team Shark to race in UKGTR championship races. Team Shark is a bit thin on the ground for GTR, so looking for drivers who can compete regularly in championship events.

We have a wonderful selection of cars painted in Team colours for new drivers to use, our own website (http://www.teamshark.org.uk/) and forums (http://www.teamshark.org.uk/forums/) where we can discuss tactics (ha ha) and swap setup tips etc.

If you're currently part of another team you could consider moving to Team Shark to even things out a bit  :P or add a bit of added spice to proceedings. We're all a friendly bunch of fish at Team Shark, where we also have our own NASCAR arm of the team run by Nick Phillips. Or perhaps you are part of a very small team and would like to join forces with a bigger well renown team like Team Shark.

If you're interested in switching to Team Shark and can regularly drive in UKGTR championship races please PM me to discuss. Maybe some of the old guard regulars would like a change and drive for the historic Team Shark, whatever your situation, Team Shark is a great team to race for.

To wet your appetite here are some shots of the team car's you could be driving...

And we have the first bite (bum bum). I'd like to welcome Whitham69 to the fishy fold!

Good to have you on over board. May the fins be with you.

He does want Viper, unfortunately it's one of the very few cars I haven't done yet!  :(

It'll have to go in the next skin pack rather than this one (assuming there is another). I'll certainly paint one now and hopefully if there is another version of the skin pack it can go in then.  :)

i like to keep the skin please. I could be a red tail black shark

Was the skin ok Rich. i found it real hard to do I never used photoshop before. the tech advise on RSC was crap it told you what to do but not how to do it. I got no experience of how a PC works what files do what. i even had to look up how to create a new folder to put it in. It was working but the file was a mess. I couldn't work out how to change the rest of the number to Ukxxx. If i renamed them manually it never worked and i couldnt get them in to geditor to rename them. I did give it a go like you said and learnt alot of new stuff. i tryed to my best for you and wouldn't blame you for rejecting it.

Great skins Shark team.Maybe its time you go over the border with your team have a look here:http://www.sim-challenge.com/,i saw 139.xx in pre-qual at Estoril in a Morgan.
They race on monday and wednesday (so no UKGTR interference) i signed up as Dutch Turtles.
Can you be a member of the shark team and race in another team as well?

As long as you learn something new each time that's all that matters. I've edited it and looks ok now.. all that's needed for car to appear in GTR is to have the needed files named UK499 at start replacing the 155 in your case. Then in .car file where it says number it must be UK499 also. Then all the DDS files must start UK499. To do this there is extract option in Locutus GEditor, once extracted you can rename to UK499 and then delete the 155 DDS files in .GTR files and import the UK499 ones. It's only matter of renaming and reshuffling mostly. If you look at any of UKGTR cars, they all start UK###.. that's the key to it, and the name is given in .car file from 'Number'. The remaining part of all names is the exact same as the model your editing, only the first part UK### is changed.

Btw, i'd use paintshop pro 8 instead of photoshop.. it's much more intuitive to use when it comes to painting.

Team Shark has now released Pedro and John 'Smoothy' Page from their contracts.

Recent financial figures from the team showed the team's profits had taken a slump. This was mainly due to the increase in wages of new signings of Ruskus, Zacari, Whitham and Maverick this year, as well as some expensive car repairs :-\

This streamlining will reduce the team's hefty wage bill and release funds to spend on new cars. It is expected the team's new signings will help Team Shark to get that elusive team championship title that has so far eluded the team in any of the big GTR categories. Prize money from team wins is a big part of the team's income and the higher the position the more the team can push forward exciting car developments like the purchase of GTR2 cars and team skinned GTL cars.

Am I to assume that simracing.org is run on the same lines as any credible sporting organisation in that any team may only have a single team representing it in any given league or division ?

For example I assume that Team Shark and Team Shark juniors will not be permitted to race in the same league/division.
However if there are to be 2 divisions then Team Shark could race in Div 2 and Team Shark Juniors in Div 1 ?

Ya can't win!  :-\

I hadn't finished the admin yet which is why I hadn't announced it yet, so you've pre-empted me somewhat...

There simply aren't enough teams in SimRacing taking up the drivers that want to be part of a team. I've done the decent thing by reducing the team size and splitting Team Shark into 2 teams of 6 each to match the other teams in SimRacing. This is like Red Bull and Toro Rosso in F1, 2 teams competing against each other with a common ownership and common resources.

Each Team Shark team is under strict orders to not help the other team during races. We share a common website and forums and at the end of each season drivers maybe swapped between teams. They are indepedent in terms of scoring points and like all other teams willl compete against each other. Which means they can take points off each other and so on. This is to the detriment of Team Shark as a whole because either one of the teams has less drivers to now win championships with.

If new teams would like to take on drivers please do, but there is simply a lack of teams wanting to run to cover the number of drivers we have who want to be part of a team.

If your view is shared by many Greg, then I am very close to simply disbanding Team Shark altogether. I put in a lot of effort to run the team and facilities and I don't need this hassle if we are viewed as competing unfairly, this is a hobby, not a job! I don't want to be seen to be getting an unfair advantage and I feel this is a really sporting thing to do whilst giving many drivers the opportunity to be part of a team and share the resources that I and Team Shark can provide.

Hey Sharky bud I was only asking mate.  When we were a large team its actually something I had considered doing but decided against at the time due to several of the drivers lack of intrest.  We may actually follow the same route as yourselfs but it all depends what the guys want to do.

Sorry if I upset you mate.

Team Minnow surely? ;)

I can totally see why that could be a bad thing in a big money corporate evilness real life type scenario Greg but here, in the very sporting atmosphere we've got, not a serious issue surely m8?

I've always wanted a limit on team numbers, for reasons we've been through loads of times before, and am pleased if you're planning to split into two groups Shark. I'd have preferred if a limit was in place right from the start, but seeing as it wasn't it would have been really difficult to force one so the point was a bit moot. Really good move guys, as long as it isn't forced on others and I'm sure it won't be :)

Ok, sorry if I sounded snappy.

I've been feeling there have been some genuine undertones inbetween the lines of friendly rivalry recently that maybe both the strong presence Team Shark has in the SimRacing.org.uk admin team and also my recruiting of slightly more drivers than other teams has made me consider what to do about it. I genuinely believe this is good for the team and building it to be even stronger in the future and for fair play within the league. Team Shark runs a NASCAR wing too that most people don't know about in here.

I have been considering for some time stepping down from my role as Events Director in SimRacing.org.uk to distance myself as a team boss from the running of the league in case that was seen as somehow unfair, which I can assure people it is not, but I can understand how it may look.

P.S. The team names are not finalised yet.

Did Grimsby hold out for a win today ?

Thankfully yes. Very nervous for the last few minutes, but a much needed win for our slightly battered haddocks.

As for any suspicions of unfair admin, tactics, etc, dont be daft mate, well not from me at any rate.

Undertones, classic band, tenage kicks etc.  On a sensible note, yes you are right, we all take it far to seriously sometimes and need to lighten up, me included.  Can we please return to just taking the piss out of each other and enjoy ramming into rival drivers without fear of anyone getting upset.
