I was almost spoilt for choice in picking a tasty car for next week, but this one stood out to me so far as one that was quick but manageable and seemed to suit this track nicely where it can use its power on the long straight and its awesome aero in the twisties. Great cockpit view too  8)
I had intended to run the Cobras at Old Silverstone which I think will be a lot of fun, but best to take advantage of all the new enthusiasm for the latest dlc.

Hope you like it  :-*

Practice server up although I think I must have the wrong Porsche GT1 as the one I've just been driving is far from manageable :( Where's all this aero you speak of, through the final chicane the thing just is so loose it's almost impossible to stop it spinning when you make the 2nd change of direction. It's also understeer city until suddenly you're dead as the oversteer kicks in. Far too difficult for my feeble ability and reaction times  :-[

Oh and there's something not right with the views. My default view is a top the roof rather than in the cockpit. In this view the various apps I run are all nicely placed around the screen. If I go in to the cockpit all those apps disappear, they're way up above me where you can't really see them and stand no chance of reading anything they display. If I change to a chase view all the apps sit above the car - daft.

Well that's one satisfied customer straight away  ::) I don't get it, I used it straight out the box and had no problem blatting it around for a few laps  ??? Hence stating it was manageable/drivable. (Surprisingly for a thoroughbred race car).
Will wait for more feedback

Drove the car for about an hour at Monza yesterday and just turned some laps at Mugello, no major problems with the car for me, neither any problems with the cockpit view nor any driveability issues.
I'm using the default setup and just tweaked the gear ratio a bit, had no problems at all at the last Chicane @Mugello ???

So my first impressions are very similar to Mark's opinion.

I love it, Dont treat it like a modern car, almost feels like modern semi-slicks on it. You cant attack the corners too hard but 'feels' like a typical porsche with the handling. Without the speed readout on the wheel its hard to gauge how quick it is, but isnt it twin-turbo? Always found the back end catchable on the power.

Not to mention your currently quicker than me on the server, and i did have the default setup but dropped the rear ARB having read your comments prior to jumping on.

No problems with the cockpit view on here aswell.

I like the car/track ( mugello being my testtrack  8) ). The car kinda feels like the GT2's, less grip in the corners but even without TC its quite stable on the power at corner exit. Only downside I have found so far is that even the medium tyres were only lasting 7 laps before they dropped below 98%. :o

Same here, the medium tires went into yellow very fast. Will have a look at the hard tires later today.

So this is my default view - on the roof where as normally it's in the cockpit

I can see the AC menu fairly easily

If I change to chase view I get

As you can see the AC menus are above the car, and in cockpit if I look up and to the left I get

Not the best place to be looking while driving

Have you tried it without the OR???

I imagine the updates have change the settings needed to sort the view out. Your'll have to join the rest of us looking at flat monitors!

Didn't fix the VR view in the 911 GT1.

[–]WarthogOsl 5 punten 1 dag geleden
Quick workaround I found in the AC forums: Go into the the driver position app, click reset (which should put you into the driver seat), then click save. Exit, the session, then start a new one. When you come back to that car, both the driving position and the HUD should be positioned correctly.

Found this by accident when I was checking the 10.2 changelog  8)

I can understand the question marks regarding the aero on this car:

Should i use a stick shift for this car? I quess so.

Anyone tried this car up against the f1 GTR? I have seen footage of them racing closely back in the day but don't know if that translates into AC  :-\

The McLaren F1 GTR we have ingame is the 96-spec car and significant slower than the Porsche 911 GT1 '98.
The first 911 GT1, built in 1996, was a close competitor to the McLaren and also the 911 GT1 Evo from 1997 raced against the F1 GTR Long Tail, but after the 1997 season McLaren decided to leave the GT1 scene while Porsche developed the 911 GT1 '98.

Informative answer thanks !  :). Wish Kunos would concentrate on making some competitors for some of these more unique racers, cars like the f40Lm should be easy enough to implement when they already have an f40 in game for instance. Not that we should complain the amount of new cars we've been getting  :)

Finally got a handful of laps in last night, slotted in just behind our 3 resident fast guys  :) Hope to get some more Laps in on the server later this eve.
Has this car got adjustable boost? Must admit I didn't try altering it yet and would probably only want it on the straight anyway. Still find this car very manageable for a brute Le Mans winner, as long as your not over greedy on the throttle on corner exit  :)

(...) for a brute Le Mans winner (...)

AFAIK it was probably the worst Porsche to ever win Le Mans. The competition DNF'd and the GT1 just rolled up the field.

All other races were won by Mercedes and the Porsche GT1 didnt stand a chance at all throughout the entire season.

But still, i like the car a lot and am glad to have it in the game... its just funny that it is basically the "least successful" successful car we have right now if that makes any sense :D

Trust me... I pester aris and marco almost on a weekly basis to get cars whoch actually compete woth others we already have. Ive also asked aris to enquire about the esprit v8 (would you believe Kunos never even asked about including it!! Lol) also, the f40lm isnt quite as straight forward as you would think, however i do hint that the stage 3 version should have more performance to match the f1.. Aris said he will look into it iirc.

The '96 f1 we have is not too far off the 911 gt1, twisty tracks you can see its advantage, tracks like lemans are no too bad. You would probably get away with running these together if you Kept the gt1 to hard tyres.

That's why the GT3 class is so popular, many different cars within the same performance range  8)

According to rsrlivetiming the Porsche and McLaren are quite different regarding laptimes:

Spa:

Porsche 2:15
McLaren 2:22

Nürburgring GP (GT):

Porsche 1:54
McLaren 2:01

Silverstone GP:

Porsche 1:59
McLaren 2:05

Brands Hatch GP:

Porsche 1:24
Mclaren 1:28

Btw: Damage is still set to 60% on the server while it says 50% here.

That's quite a considerable difference in speeds  :o

Okay next question, how about the C9 v 962 v 787b ?  :)

atm the 787B will dominate, then the C9 then the 962's

Once again a bit of a shame  :(

I see Maikel is our resident alien in the GT1 occupying top spot on the rsr timing boards  :o

once the 787B is officially released it will probably sit in between the two.. atm the 962's are a little too slow according to the tests which have been done.. so expect the 962 to be improved a tad..then that should bring the C9 and 962 closer, and then if the 787B sits in the middle it might not be too bad..

Not sure if I'm able to make the race. AC is starting to freak out here, was on it just a few hours ago and now I can't load into any servers. It gets stuck at loading all cars and then just completely freezes up and I have to reset my pc  ???

Been trying few things with updating drivers and all, hopefully I can fix it in time....stupid AC  :P

Huge bummer. Had to do an integrity check and just managed to fix it and I tried to get on, but you guys just started ( I was watching stracker abit  ;D ) so it wouldnt let me on anymore.

Strange that I was missing 1 file while everything was fine this afternoon.

Was looking forward to this one, I liked the 911.  :'(

Found a thread on the Assetto Corsa forums saying disable all apps, which I did. Connected with about 50 secs of qual left. After killing the tyres and crashing lots I gave up. Re-enabled all the apps and the game still works - go figure  ::)

Sadly due to the low turnout and technical probs some had this quickly became a non event. I only continued to the end out of respect to the plucky few who raced to the end, but otherwise it was 15 out of the 19 laps just hot lapping on my own on worn tyres  :(
First couple of laps were alright being hunted down by Ed after nsfw & Chris had some lag warp contact on lap 1 and then with Chris recatching a bit later. But I had my only spin of the race when the car just turned round on me on the last corner and that gave Ed a huge 18 sec lead which he steadily increased anyway as my med tyres went off.
Finished a lonely 2nd place. Like the combo but another that's pointless without a good grid .

I would say; re-run in near future.
People have had some seat-time now. With this knowledge the racing might be closer?
