Grid/server capacity: 22

Practice: ~19:20 GMT (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 GMT(20 mins)
Race: 20:40 GMT (1 rolling, 24 racing laps)

Track: Shanghai GP Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg187123#post_shanghai)

Cars allowed: Ford Capri Mk3 Turbo Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_capri3t)

Only the following cars are to be selected. CLASS A DIV 1 '81, CLASS B DIV 2 '81, DIV 2 '80 and DIV 2 '79.

Special Notes: Rolling start procedure will be implemented for this race. See below for details.

1) When qualifying ends drivers will join the grid as usual, before the timer countdown ends.

2) At the green light the pole position driver (lead driver) will be responsible for moving off at a slow pace.

3) The remaining drivers will follow the driver in front of them forming a single line formation.

4) The lead driver will increase speed as soon as it is safe to do so. The following drivers will match the speed of the car in front of them, whilst keeping a safe distance between them.

5) The lead driver will maintain slow/average speed for the duration of the lap until approaching the final corner when he will engage the speed limiter.

6) The lead driver will maintain limiter speed (limiter may be switched off) until the start line is reached. Having crossed the start line the lead car will begin race speed.

7) Following drivers may not exceed limiter speed (lead drivers speed) or attempt any overtaking until the start line is crossed.

Car restrictions: None

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: ROLLING
Tyre wear: x2
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Hmmmm, more Tilke 1st gear fun  :-\ - Tony, once we're done with these tracks, we need a "what if" or "if only" race in these cars on Spa'67, to flush away all this modern nonsense..  ;D

I can do Bathurst '67 if that helps with the flush?

Possibly  :) - worth a shot, although parts of that track would be completely bonkers with these cars  ;D

Hehe, maybe true, but some are definitely more bonkers than others - I contemplated suggesting a race on Nürburgring in these, but sanity prevailed....  ;D

I reckon that would be good fun, except that Ziu would be about 1min a lap faster than the rest of us!  :o

Won't make the race today.  Had a therapy session this morning and the guy really went after me working on my back. Sore as hell now, going to make a nice strong rum & Coke and stay in my old recliner.  Am not going to schedule any more Monday sessions, that will teach him lol.  Have a good race all, if you can on that track!!!

Thx Tony, long time no raced GTL, start with theese beast it wasn't easy but I had fun and I could race with John and Roger in view.
Before the start of the race I was confused about pit stop rules, then I saw some cars pitting during the race. Where I found specific rules for every serie?
Ciao

We discovered after the start of this series that the Group A cars needed to pit for fuel. You don't need a rule for this.

Quite enjoyed this round as I like the Shanghai circuit a lot. Best fun for me was after my pit stop and trying to catch Geoffers. Didn't happen unfortunately but it was getting close. Bit of a reduce grid but RL can get in the way of things, ho-hum. Hoping for a bigger turnout at Brands.

Gutted to have missed this, as I really enjoy these cars, and I was unable to even attempt to fight off CLive
for points  :'( Am banished to the smoke this week for 3 days, away again next week to Brum for the week...
flippin work keeps getting in the way of life

Bizarrely I rather enjoyed this race, despite having got rather bored of these cars & not liking this track.  ???

Showing how interested I was, I entered the lobby & went to join the server only to discover I had not even installed the track!  :cursing:  I had raced it before so I knew the way round & with a few minor tweeks to my Yas Marina setup I was ready to go.

Hoped for a bit of a battle with Clive as we were fairly close in qually but it didn't materialise as he went off on the first lap. The Div 1 cars disappeared into the distance & I was soon well ahead of the chasing pack. First half of the race was fairly lonely but the second half was enlivened by trying to work out how fast Tony was catching me after his pitstop & if I could hold on to 3rd place. Initially I thought I had plenty in hand but as the tyres wore my laptimes started increasing dramatically & getting out of the curve onto the long straight was becoming more tricky as the car just wanted to oversteer. With about 5 laps left I reckoned I had about 5s to spare at the end, it turned out to be 8s. If the race had been a lap or two more it may have been a different story.

Congrats to Ziu & Erling.

Cya all at Brands.  :thumbup1:

I was also looking forward to a battle with Matt, but when he did not appear, Geoffers stepped in  ::)

As normal I was struggling with these monsters but was slowly finding the sweet ( ish ) line and chipping away at Geoffer's quick quali time. Another 30 minutes and I might have got close, but probably not.
The rolling start was OK and I was focused on trying to hang on to Geoffers when things got serious. The first half lap of real racing felt fine and I was tailing Geoffers as planned until my screen crashed to desktop!! By the time I had regained graphics, I was clanking along some Armco and just about dead last!!

Needless to say, Geoffers did not wait for me...can't really say that I blame him  :whistling:

The red mist was particularly thick when I got going again and I confess that the tyres probably suffered more abuse in the first 5 laps than was prudent. I had to abandon the chase after Geoffers when the reality of how little rubber I had left to complete the second half of the race became clear. TBH I doubt that I could have caught him anyway unless he made a serious error, which was unlikely  ::)

The only excitement in the second half of the race was when Tony came steaming up behind me in his Div 1 car. Pathetically I tried to hold him off for about 2 corners lol, well a guy can dream can't he??

Grats to Ziu and Erling  and to Geoffers for getting a Div 2 car onto the podium.

Good to see Fulvio racing here again, we know each other from many battles in GPL.

Uneventful race that went exactly as expected.   In some of the early laps, gaps in front and behind me were growing in exact symmetry - I was moving away from Tony at the same rate Ziu was moving away from me.  That of course meant I was soon all alone, as often before.  Only distraction came from lapping a few Div 2 cars late in the race.

Do love these cars, but races are not very interesting; really wish I had someone to race a little closer with.   Anyway, grats to Ziu for another win and what is surely securing the Div 1 Championship, and grats to Geoffers for bringing a Div 2 car on the podium.

Welcome to Fulvio and a heads up, in case you're not already aware of it:  These cars are quite fragile and easy to damage, but can't be repaired in the pits - if you try, you end up with an undriveable car; all rear grip vanishes.  Thus best to avoid damage, if at all possible, and should you sustain some, it's almost certainly best not to attempt a repair.

If I thought that I could handle those Div 1 cars and extract some of their performance, I would have joined in and maybe offered a small hassle factor. A few more seasons with these cars and I might have been able to graduate from Div 2 (This is NOT a request for Tony to run these cars again!! ).
The other chink ( more of a gaping hole  ::) ) in my ability is Pit Stops, which needs some serious practice if I am ever going to offer a challenge in races that require fuel and tyres.

That's funny; I distinctly see a desire to run these again...  ;D

Joking aside; I believe you weren't far off my pace in Shanghai, when you played around with the Div 1 car.  But no worries; you're leading Div 2 currently, so more than understandable if you stay in Div 2 - I would for sure!  :)

Despite my lowly finishing position I really enjoyed that one. A bit thin on the ground unfortunately and other than Geoffers who did manage to stay with the D1 cars for a while the rest of us D2 drivers had our own race over a lap down at the end.

A total lack of practice and was still learning the track for the 1st few laps. Made a complete mess of one of the corners on the 1st flying lap so was relegated to a very distant last place. managed to catch Roguk after a few laps and later passed Fulvio. Maintained a safe distance ahead but he was always close enough to remind me a mistake was going to cost me the place. I do think if these were to return in the future we should go with a single class I just don't think we have the turnout to make both D1 & D2 worthwhile in the same race.

I would like a chance to race these on a more flowing track. I think they would be a blast somewhere like the 60's Monza. I'm not a fan of straights interrupted by hairpins and 90 degree corners I much prefer tackling something like Curve Grand and Parabolica where it's not a battle of the late brakers all the time.

John.
