Grid/server capacity: 22

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (1 lap rolling, 23 laps racing)

Track: Korean GP Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg128898#post_korea)

Cars allowed: Ford Capri Mk3 Turbo Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_capri3t)

Only the following cars are to be selected. CLASS A DIV 1 '81, CLASS B DIV 2 '81, DIV 2 '80 and DIV 2 '79.

Car restrictions: None

Special Notes: Rolling start procedure will be implemented for this race. See below for details.

1) When qualifying ends drivers will join the grid as usual, before the timer countdown ends.

2) At the green light the pole position driver (lead driver) will be responsible for moving off at a slow pace.

3) The remaining drivers will follow the driver in front of them forming a single line formation.

4) The lead driver will increase speed as soon as it is safe to do so. The following drivers will match the speed of the car in front of them, whilst keeping a safe distance between them.

5) The lead driver will maintain slow/average speed for the duration of the lap until approaching the final corner when he will engage the speed limiter.

6) The lead driver will maintain limiter speed (limiter may be switched off) until the start line is reached. Having crossed the start line the lead car will begin race speed.

7) Following drivers may not exceed limiter speed (lead drivers speed) or attempt any overtaking until the start line is crossed.

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: ROLLING
Tyre wear: x2
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

A bit off topic and I know we probably won't use these again due to the pit repair issue. But has anyone tried these things around the VLM Fuji 1982 track?

They are awesome! I have heard some people don't like the track. I can't understand why, I think it's up there with the 60's Monza.

Not yet, but sounds like I should  :)   Did test a Div 1 on Spa'67; flat out for most of a lap, so almost too easy, but still a hoot  :)

Present track is a mixed bag; contains some nicely flowing 2nd and 3rd-4th gear corners, but then they have to mar the experience with all those 1st (0.5th) gear corners.  Should concentrate on Monday's track, but will try Fuji 1982 as an antidote to those slow corners  :)

Completely agree Erling. This track has the potential to be a great track for these cars. If only they had made those hairpins into proper 1st/2nd gear corners instead of those stand it on it's nose and then wait for the turbo to kick in on the exit abominations this could be a great track. Is there a graphics update anywhere? It's look ok but I can't help feeling it needs sprucing up a bit it sort of feels a bit like a GPL track from 10 years ago, which is a shame.

look out for a race here in mid May  ;)
Now you have peeked my interest. :) I remember the BMW Procar race a few Christmas's ago. Even though my race was a short one I remember I really enjoyed it.

I'll give this one another miss. A complete new track for me in cars I'm unable to handle makes no sense for me.

Have fun and see you next week.

It is 2:40p.m. on race day and I have just driven this track for the first time. TBH I can think of several cars that would have made the experience more enjoyable   ;).
Probably managed about 10 laps altogether, but I don't think that the car crossed the line with all of its bodywork on any of them lol.

Now I can understand Erling and John's comments about 1st gear corners  :-\ Probably my biggest problem is remembering which way the next corner goes, and is it one of the 1st gear type or a 2nd/3rd gear sweeper???  I found myself standing on the brakes and dropping to 1st only to discover that I should have stayed in 3rd!! at various points. Plus of course arriving at apexes in 3rd, only to discover that they were hairpins!!!! I still need to fix this track in my memory cell that I keep spare for simracing...unfortunately I can only spare one of those at my age  :-\

One big question is that point on the circuit where one part of the track goes straight ahead, but another turns sharp left, around another right hand hairpin and then rejoins the straight ahead section??? From looking at the small circuit map I suspect that we are supposed to take the scenic route around the hairpins??? But the straight ahead shortcut is soooo inviting  ::)

Clive, you will get a cut if you use the straight on track. You should take the scenic route.

Oddly, I found this track quite easy to learn. Never driven it before, but after 5-6 laps I knew which corner came next & then it was just a case of getting lines & braking points right. Yet on other circuits, like Clive, it takes loads of laps to get the track in my head.

Tried restarting GTL and still no sound on track just a few hiccup noises, go to garage and hear ambient sounds, but no car or ambient sounds when on track, tried different cars Porsche etc still no sound, opened media player and music plays fine even when GTL is running. Just tried GTL again no sound and intermittent sound on loading screens. Annoying earlier this evening GTL ran fine.

I get that exact same thing every now and again. Although everything appears to be working the sound is just a lot of pops and crackles. The only thing that I have found to fix it is a system reboot.

Sorry again for the password error. I forgot to attend to the server.

It's going to be interesting at Suzuka isn't it Ziu/Erling  ;)

Grats to Ziu and Erling and to Geoffers, they were all in a class of their own.

Hard Luck To John for his disco it looked like we were set for a battle after a close qualifying with Bob. Erling and Ziu were light years faster in their Div 1 cars, Geoffers was in Div 1.5 and nothing to do with us mortals in Div 2  ::)

I know now that I really should have tried and practised this track a lot more, well let's say that I know that now!!!

By the time qually had ended I had finally got the track fixed in my mind, although there were several places where I was most definitely not on the optimum line. What I had not realised was just how critical tyre wear might be :-\.
In an attempt to find more pace I had tweaked the setup that had served me well for several races. Big mistake!! Yes,  it was quicker for the first few laps as I had dreams of glory whilst holding on to Geoffers tailpipes.......until it dawned on me that I had expended about 25% of my rubber inside 3 laps???!! I abandoned my pursuit of Geoffers after running wide on rapidly wearing tyres and tried to smooth out my driving to make it to the flag.
But the damage had been done, and by half distance I was truly struggling to keep the car on the track. A multitude off "offs" and spins that involved some contact with barriers, which had damaged the suspension making control even more difficult.
By lap 13 the car was almost undriveable and each spin was removing more grip from the tyres to such an extent, that I was never going to get to the finish.
SO I MADE A PITSTOP !!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o

I was switched on enough to cancel any fuel and was intending to just get fresh rubber. But just as I punched the "Enter" key to get Arnold and Mabel changing tyres, I noticed that there were two entries on the clipboard for "repairs"????. Too late!!
Over 2 minutes later I emerged from the pits with a new car and tyres....but as others have warned previously     pit repairs=strange handling    The car was as bad ( if not worse ) after the stop and 2 laps later I had spun, hit the wall and run wide too many times.

Running dead last and at least a lap behind with a car that was an absolute nightmare, I took the coward's way out and quit. I was going to be a hazard to cars that would lap me because I just could not guarantee to drive in a straight line or stay on the tarmac.

Last round at Suzuka can't come soon enough....looking forward to seeing Erling and Ziu fight it out. But, I think I might have to do some proper preparation for that round  ::)

Down with a cold presently, so not in too great shape for yesterday's race; most 'exiting' moment in an otherwise uneventful race was when I got a coughing fit - not easy to maintain control..

New pb in qual, when I got below 2:11 for the first time.  Didn't matter the slightest though, with Ziu an impossible 2.7 secs faster, and an uncharacteristically slow Tony back in the middle of the Div 2 pack.

First part of the race went as expected. With Ziu soon gone, and the rest of the field far back, I was all alone.  Borrowed the lead for a few laps, when Ziu went for an early stop.  Rejoined behind Geoffers after my own stop, but he kindly let me past.  Some excitement towards the end: Gap to Ziu was over 20 secs, when it started dropping.  His tyres were gone, and I gained first 2, then 4 secs a lap.  My own tyres were far from mint anymore, but gave it my all in those final laps.  Not enough, as the gap was still 8+ secs when the race ended.

Grats to Ziu & Geoffers, and commiserations to John, Roger & Clive, with their various problems.

Not sure I agree about the excitement for the final round.  Unless Ziu fails completely to show, Div 1 is decided. Hypothetically I could win the overall, but it would require Ziu to get hit by problems, or make an unnecessary mistake.  In terms of pure speed, there's really no competition between us.

Not a good race for me.  My old brain cells never got this track memorized, even though I ran a lot of practice laps.
Still seem to be having some weird PC problems, On lap 6 I crashed to desktop on the SF straight so braked hard and eased to the wall. After I clicked on the game it came right back up without any car damage.  But for 3 laps following the game crash the video was almost like the PC was lagging or something, good picture for a couple of seconds then jumping in and out of focus and repeat.  Then it cleared up and no problem, maybe some download problem interference.  I usually manually go to the malware and McAffee programs and download updates before the race, but didn't this time.  Grats to the podium, and sympathies to the other guys who had problems.  On to Mallory, a NORMAL type of track in cars more to my likeing.
Oh yeah, question guys, I noticed I am real low on credits to buy cars.  Isn't there a file someplace you can rewrite that you can put a few million in that will solve the problem???  I know you can delete and make a new profile, but then you have to set up the controls and all that stuff.  Thanks ahead for the info....

Bob M.

@ Bob. Either use this http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=788 but you need to create a fresh profile or...............

Edit a .car file using Notepad to make it's value million's then sell it in your garage.  ;)

Or change all new car values to $0 then you don't have to buy them  ;)

Straightforward race for me.

For some reason I was far quicker than the rest of the Div2 runners compared with previous races, but of course much slower than Ziu & Erling's Div1 cars. So predictably I had a lonely race & without a major mistake from either Ziu or Erling, 3rd was the best I was going to do. Happy with my pace though & for once I didn't make any serious errors.

Congrats to Ziu & Erling.
