The car groups not definitive, I may add or remove one or two if stracker times show any wild variations but will try not too. I am too busy to sort too much out this week but these cars seem decent fun on a great track.

live tracking working for anyone?
Wouldn't have been working as I hadn't seen MJ's race post until 5 mins ago. Should be good to go now.

BTW with 6 car choices and 24 grid slots there are only 4 of each car available. Hopefully not an issue unless one car does become very popular.

Doesn't really matter who claims what car, currently it's all decided on who joins and picks the cars first during practice on race night.

There currently seems an issue when picking the porsche on the server. Getting a server mismatch and being bumped. A number of us were on and tried. Myself, Mikael and ChrisR both had it.

Maybe if people state what car they plan to use in the thread, if it appears a certain car is not going to be used, then remove it to open up more slots?? It seems the Porka is a popular choice.

Can you try again, I've just updated the server and joined myself. I assume there was an update I missed :(

Had a go with the cars just now, most I haven't even driven before. I like trying out new cars though  ;D

Time wise, the Audi and Merc are pretty much tied, Merc probably being abit faster but alot more oversteery ( me likey this car  8) )

The Nissan and the Porsche were pretty much on par, Porsche is probably faster but more twitchy (I'm seeing a pattern here  ;D), both being 1,5 seconds faster then the other 2 cars ( and feautering hypercarroad tyres instead of semislicks )

Not a big fan of the xbow it seems  :P   Seeing Chris's times I'd say they're pretty much on par with the Porsche and Nissan, being slower on the straights but better in the corners.

I'll see which car I'll pick based on the rest of the times, though I'll probably go with the Mercedes.

Oh, and can we delete that Matthew's time on stracker. That guy was driving like it was Need for speed, rammed me offroad and then just ran straight through the last chicane multiple times just to get the fastest times....

Ok lap time invalidated. If this chap continues to turn and cause disruption I can also ban him for a period of time.

Would it be possible for us to run that minorator app that stops drivers who aren't status A&b? Just a thought.
If any particular guy is being a proper bell end just ban him full stop

And err, Chris in a Gt3 Rs? What happened to faster guys taking a slightly off the fromt-end pace car?  :-\ upto you guys what you want to drive of course but thought it would be more fun for all if the top 4 quick regulars didn't take the potential group leading cars like the Nissan and gt3 .
How does the Cayman gt4 stack up in this group? Anyone know? I've seen them having great chases with gt3's on track this year in the real world.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Imola Trackday - Dec 14
Post by: Jeffrey on December 10, 2016, 09:18:56 PM +0000
There seems to be a gap between a few groups of cars. The Nissan and Porsche on 1 side, of which the Porsche is a lot easier to be fast in.
And the Merc/Audi group, where the Merc seems to have the upper hand.

Didn't try the Lotus yet and won't try the X-Bow for obvious reasons.

Yes, the one with the GT3 RS, which was IIRC DLC PP2.

I was also wondering about this looking at the times. The GT3 RS and Nissan do seem a fair bit faster in the alien hands. I also wondered how the Cayman GT4 would stack up and maybe use it to replace the GT3 RS and Nissan. Everything else seems quite close.

Had an excellent little race with Maikel yesterday. He was in the Audi and I was in the 2-11. On the main straight he would pull away but for the rest of the lap I would start to reeling him in. Great fun :)

i dont intend on racing in the porsche, im going to take the X-Bow.

what you might want to look at doing is removing the slower 2 (SLS/R8) and replacing them with somthing a little quicker, maybe the F40 and GT40.. (i would choose either of them aswell)

Caymen is just too slow, and the clubsport just too fast lol.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Imola Trackday - Dec 14
Post by: spanner on December 11, 2016, 12:03:25 PM +0000
Please don't get rid of the Porsche, i thought we were consciously using the DLCs?

It maybe fast in you aliens hands but it aleast give me a chance to be mid field! For comparison my times i've listed below. We cant all drive as well as you guys :P

GT3 1.58.7
KTM 2.01.4
Lotus 2.01.2
Nissan 2.00.7 (not sure i remember this!)

The GT3 and the lotus feel nicer to me as there more track focused than the road cars.

With the Merc and the Audi there seems to be a match with the BMW M325i Racing.

The RUF RT12r seems to be on pace with the faster cars on this list, but it's another Porsche, so nobody will tell the difference between that and the RSR GT3.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Imola Trackday - Dec 14
Post by: Maikel K. on December 11, 2016, 12:13:04 PM +0000
And don't take out the slower 2  ;D

We need more times from people but it looks like a 1:58 time is a good benchmark to make choices to balance the field. So I'll be taking the Mercedes ( the Audi felt abit too tame imo).

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Imola Trackday - Dec 14

I will be leaving the Nissan and gt3rs in for us mortals to drive  ;) bit surprised the gt4 Cayman doesn't fit in though as I've seen them with my own eyes hounding gt3's on track.
Happy to drop the BMW 325 into the mix if anyone wants it.

I don't want different generation cars like the f40,gt40 and older Ruf in the mix as their dynamics are too different to the fast modern cars, even if they can set a similar laptime, their braking and cornering will be very different.

Will be hard for anyone to keep up with you if you pick the RSR, it's just that much better ;).

Happy to drop the BMW 325 into the mix if anyone wants it.
Haven't tried it yet, so don't know about tyres etc, but the RSR times seems close.

Agree on the F40 and GT40, but the RUF I was talking about was a modern one, but I don't really see it add anything to the mix. Maybe it's a bit harder to drive ???

So I'll be taking the Mercedes ( the Audi felt abit too tame imo).

The Merc is a lot of fun, so I'm tempted by it as well. Audi was boring, felt too much like a FWD car.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 2 - Imola Trackday - Dec 14
Post by: Mark J on December 11, 2016, 02:32:24 PM +0000
M'eh I've only done a 1:58 in it so far so not exactly alien pace  :-[ though expect I might creep into the 57's with it  :-\
Yeah agree on the Ruf.

I'd say overall we are looking at a rough benchmark time of 1:57/58 so if everyone is in a car that achieves that, it could make for a good close race. But entirely up to you fastest guys on what you choose, you might want to race each other up front in the best cars and leave us mortals to battle for the breadcrumbs - don't worry we are used to it  ;D

Scratch the BMW, it's way slower, so no idea how they got the laptimes.

And that 2-11 sinds like a vacuum cleaner, I quit driving it after half a lap, it's horrible  ;D

There is another invalid laptime on the server. If you look at the lap comparison, you can clearly see he didn't brake where others have.

It might be best, for now, to just perma-ban anyone who is pissing about.

I think opening the server up to the public during the week has worked really well. Its opened the doors to new people but we will get the odd prat joining now and again, but since all of us here are like "admin" if we see anything we can just report it here and they are gone within a couple hours..

It also might be worth adding in the Start Message that people seen abusing track limits etc will be banned for 24hrs or such.

I think its important that people can join the server and be happy that its a clean and fair place to race, knowing that the rif-raf is taken care of..

I also think now is a good time to push the public awareness of this site as much as possible.. Has anyone ever gone online and seen the massive servers full of racing... no me neither.. its either nords trackdays or booked servers with nobody racing, If we all do our bit to just use the server to practice rather than using offline it will keep bringing people into the server. It doesn't take long before 1 makes 2, and then before you know it there are 10 people racing on line..

One suggestion i do have is to remove the Practice and just make Qualifying 2 hours long.

Good idea on the start message, I think we should also have our stracker timestat link on it to encourage drivers to check where they stand, plus they would see our srouk banner then too and may be intrigued enough to check our site out.

And, ahem the message screen is currently blank on the server  :-X

One thing I like about this trackday theme is its nice trying various cars back to back. I tried the gt4 but it was much slower than the gt3 and Nissan or SLS. I know a few gt4 owners who might dispute that!

So they'll get pen and paper out to copy down a much more complex URL to look at timing rather than visit the web site (where it's all available)

And, ahem the message screen is currently blank on the server  :-X
It's there for me. Spanner thought it was completely missing last week but when I checked it was there. Either there is a bug in the game or you guys are not looking properly.

Odd about the message page. I went on the server twice this morning and it was blank both times. I use triples and think spanner does too so might be that  :-\ but no idea why a message would disappear for them as I don't lose any other info.

It seems that more people want to drive the Porsche from the posts so far so would it be better to adjust the available cars. I think it safe to safe the KTM may not be so popular, or even the Audi so is it not worth increase the available count for the Porsche to say 6 and reducing the others to account?

This is what we have so far from drivers confirming or showing interest,

Mercedes: Maikel, Jeffrey
Lotus: Linus, nfsw55, Simon
Porsche: Mark, Spanner, Postal
KTM: ChrisR, AnimalEd
Nissan: Bob
Audi: FullMetalGasket

So no interest in the Audi or Nissan so far. Do we consider dropping one of them? The Audi people have tried and does not seem very popular. Do we drop both?

Did the server have different atmos/grip settings last night? I couldn't get any heat in my tyres and the car was under steering all over the place, it was so bad I gave up  ???

I've not restarted the server so it should be as it's always been. I think there is a small amount of randomness in terms of track/ambient temperatures and these may vary between sessions but nothing drastic.

I'll be in the R8 I guess as no-one else is.
Currently it's boring the life out of me though.
Would take the Porsche but it's flappy paddle rubbish so removes half the point of a GT3 in my book...

It's a shame we couldn't have had the RUF thrown in as that has least has proper gears, similar laptimes and is fun to drive :(

That's in the next pack isn't it?

It will have to be good in the fun stakes to compete with the Cayman on road tires.
That's got to be the best drift car I've played in to date  ;D

 >:( >:( >:( Never been shunted off track in such an uncompromising manner , pretty disgusted really. Not a good way to encourage fuller grids on a Wednesday night.

I see the lap chart is a little confused and I had to manually manipulate the results so our importer worked. Problem, changing cars and thus having 2 race entries. Would be better if people didn't make a habit of this please.

Real sorry for that Bob, that was my fault. Don't know how I could've misjudged that.

Had a good start and managed second, but after the first few turns my screen froze for 1/10 of a second right when I was catching my slide out of the turn and I was on the grass all of a sudden. Had to ease it back in safely and lost 5 places. Then I was trying to see the gap with the front runners and I missed my braking point at T1 on the second lap, rejoined as last  :(

I must admit, I was slightly agitated then missing out on the battle at the front. A few choice words I can't repeat here out of decency might have been thrown at my computer  ;D

Tried to get back as quickly as possible and as clean as possible, but unfortanely I'm very impatient at times like that. Had a contact with Bob on Lap 3 just after the finish (again, sorry about that. I hate being the cause of people crashing). Managed to work my way back till I got to Linus and MJ, had a good battle there in the end.

Pretty fun combo in the end, keeping the cars balanced like that makes sure everyone the race stays quite evenly packed.

Sorry to hear you got nerfed off Bob, am sure it must have been accidental, possibly by a variation in car performance or braking, didn't see it so can't comment.

I had a great race, really enjoyed it, I had at least one battle with each of the car types at one time or another and some really great scraps with a few drivers. I was grinning like a loon at some points  ;D 8)
The cars looked and sounded great and despite certain differences, the cars fought well together.

Finished 5th in the end  :)

Well done to Michael who did lots of initial testing to form the car groups, backed up by help from a few regulars, good work gents, the trackday theme works well  :thumbup2:

That was a really nice race with alll those very different cars ;)

Qualifying didnt't go very well for me, qualified eight and at the start some Porsche and Nissan already flew past me ;D

After that I did a very silly mistake in lap 3 , touched the wall and fell back to the last position.
During the rest of the race I tried to catch some cars infront, overtook some other 2-11's but wasn't able to overtake any other cars as they nearly gained 1,5 seconds on the s/f line and I could't find a place to overtake them in the twisty sections.

Nevertheless, had great fun during the race with my tiny Lotus hair dryer ;D ;D

Well I had an amazing race. Qualified 2nd in my amazing 2-11 and set a time around a second quicker than my best so very pleased. Then ChrisR vanished and it was looking like I had pole but he returned with seconds to spare.

I made an awesome start and got the jump on ChrisR and found myself in 1st by turn 1. Totally new territory for me so felt a lot of pressure which seemed to intensify with each lap. Jeffrey was keeping close company and he flew past me on the main straight after a couple of laps. The little 2-11 was incredible through the corners so I managed to stick with him and got past a few laps later when he ran wide at the second chicane. So back in first and actually pulling away and the thoughts of winning my first race was beginning to really distract me and after 5 or 6 more laps, I made a stupid mistake and spun on the last corner dropping to 4th.

I then ended up having an amazing scrap for a few laps with Maikel in his Merc and Mark J in his orange 911. First Maikel screamed past on the main straight which sounded incredible. I stuck with him and made an amazing pass into the third chicane to retake 4th. Then Mark J screamed passed a lap or so later on the main straight and not only did the Porsche sound awesome, it looked superb. However, again, the Lotus was epic into the corners and I made a nice little pass into the left hander after the second chicane to take back 4th. Pete who was running 3rd at the time in the Nissan spun and this moved me into 3rd. Despite closing down the leaders, there were not enough laps to catch them. It was then just a case of keeping a big enough gap to Maikel so he wouldn't get a run on the main straight and pass me before the line.

So 3rd is not bad but 1st would of been better but still not ready for than win just yet :) Still, an amazing race and would love to do some more. Maybe with the Ruf as well. The key is choosing tracks that are a mix of straights and tight twisties so the power cars can dominate the straights and the handling cars can dominate the twisties. So I think Zandvoort would be another excellent track for these cars.

:) Posted in the heat of the moment last night, us slower drivers may just need a bit more room giving by the quick boys. No harm done, still looking forward to next week.
