Title: UKGPL Season 31 (2017) - Le Mans - Jan 8
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on January 06, 2017, 11:39:21 PM +0000
Endurance Race – Le Mans Bugatti

This race is a another chance to experiment with Lee’s refuel patch.
You will need to download the patch from SRMZ - http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=10007&hl=%2Brefuel+%2Bpatch – save to your computer as instructed & activate with the tick box in Gem. Pretty easy. The accompanying text file explains how to go about a refuelling stop.

Race rules as follows. Free choice of chassis for everyone BUT drivers must all make a minimum of one refuel stop. You can take more if you wish.
The race will be run on Intermediate Damage model. Unlimited Shift R is permitted, followed by a compulsory stop & go in the pit lane.

With the potential for different refuel strategies & the closely competitive F2 car set there should be lots of racing. Please take care when exiting the pits & be courteous when overtaking.

This is an endurance race of approximately 80 minutes – qualifying has been reduced to 15 minutes.

Feedback would be welcome.

Pitstop Patch 77C  v1.00
Lee Bowden
22 May 2014

Here is a patch for GPL that simulates refueling during pitstops.  It may be used both on and offline and works with all mods and tracks.  Refueling is historically accurate for only the '67 Sports Car mod, but other mods may use it as an additional fun factor.

Installation Instructions:

Copy the 77C Pitstop v1.00 .xml file to your GPL installation's "Mods/GEM+/mod name/options" directory.  If you don't already have an "options" directory, you should create one first.

Start GEM+ and check the 77C Pitstop v1.00 checkbox.  Start the mod.exe using GEM+'s green button and once on track, enter the pits and begin refueling.

To disable the patch, simply deselect the patch's GEM+ checkbox and restart GPL.

If you have installed multiple mods, you will need to copy the patch to each mod's "options" directory.

What Does The Patch Do?

1.  On reaching the pit stall, the pitboard will go away.  If you want to refuel, raise the driver's arm which is normally activated by the space bar.  After a short delay, the pitboard will begin to flash on and off indicating that refueling is in progress.  Once refueling is complete, the pitboard goes away entirely.

2.  The car is refueled to the setup menu fuel load.  Players can adjust their fuel load to trade off quicker lap times versus the time it takes to enter the pits and refuel.  So for races, players may use different fuel strategies.

3.  The refueling rate is approximately 1.5 gallons/5.7 liters per second; however, there is a small random factor applied so that each refueling will be slightly different.  The difference between the setup menu fuel load and the amount of fuel onboard determines how much fuel is loaded.  In addition, 5 seconds is the minimum pit stop time regardless of fuel onload.  This gives the mechanics time to clean the windshield and empty the ashtray while the driver waves at the girls on the pit wall.

4.  While refueling, the player's throttle is disabled which prevents him from prematurely leaving the pit stall.

5.  Refueling works in all modes;  Online, Championship, Race, and Training.

6.  No repairs are made during the pitstop.

7.  The Pitstop patch is compatible with the Weather patch.

Enjoy the patch.
Lee

I think that the event would be much better served by employing the patch v0.22 with its much slower rate of flow.  Not many F2's out there with dry-break fuel fillers.

Here's another mirror. I think I got this file in the RSC days, it has AI minmax.lp and track.ini updates, and includes the update by Klas from GPL Today in seperate folders included in the download.

Don't feel that you are being picked on....I got disco'd just a few laps later...also in 3rd place  ::)

This track used to have a history of freezes and discos,  but I thought that it had been "fixed".....................maybe not?

It took me 3 trials to find my pitboard...
Luckily I had enough fuel left.

But with 16 laps to go I had a freeze  ::)

Screen freeze, maybe 18 laps to go, so about lap 30.

I thought this track was 'safe' - have raced here a couple of times before.

The refuelling is a bit of a mystery if you don't have Prib (thanks to Microsoft I can't get mine working). I had a sneaking suspiscion I didn't take on enough gas.

The racing was good while it lasted.

Freeze...

Race was fun. I was on a 3 stopper but Tristan could keep up and take the lead from me! Great racing. I'd done two out of three stops when the computer stopped working.

I'm torn between racing in this league or another one. I really like the racing here but my PC just can't handle 60 fps :( . I'm tired of all the freezes.

But the race was fun while it lasted. Thanks for racing!

Tommie.

screen freeze  :-\

Not sure my system likes the 60fps.  It's certainly not as comfy with it as my older system on Win.7.

It was better with it than at Interlagos maybe as I have tried a few tweaks but not solid.  Particularly coming in to the final turn there was always a stutter.

Kind of putting  me off racing 60fps online.

Anyway. Nice to be back on track.

(p.s. not keen on the refuelling  - and also couldn't see pit board first try)

I think the freezes and discos are more likely down to the Bugatti track, as this place has a long history of such problems. I was hoping that it had been cleaned up as it generates some great battles.
As with all buggy tracks sometimes we get a clean race, and another time 50% of the field vanish.

I wish we had a few more Ginetto's who could sort out some of these unreliable circuits, as there are some fantastic tracks out there that we just cannot use for online league racing because of their faults.

Well, I did a 36 fps race with oAo a couple of months ago and it was fine :).

The pitboard pops up pretty late at Bugatti. I tried it for the first time in the qualifying session and was glad I did :) .

I should have done that. Drove right on past it the first time, and was out of fuel, so had to shift-r and stop next lap. Did a late fuel (~10 laps left) to comply.

Sorry to see so many disco  :(. Was a lonely run.

I am new to the refueling. I was not able to refuel successfully until my third attempt. I had .1 fuel left while in pit lane on my third attempt. Mercifully, it refueled. I felt bad for those that had discos. Better luck next time.

This track did serve up some nice racing. I enjoyed every one of my first 25 laps. This was my first endurance race in GPL. So not bad.

Good race, Congrats Dean, Doni and David!

My first endurance race.In the last laps the fatigue was increased but i have done only one error during a breaking. With the help of the disconnection i have gained the 4th position but i have chosen the wrong quantity of fuel(29 laps before the refueling).

Dear me...  :(  Four drivers KO'd at the same instant as per Axel's post above.  Add a couple of others and this has to go down as a non-event.

Canadians top the chart with a 1-2!  Well!  Not unprecedented but rare indeed.  Grats to Deaner on a good drive recovering from early misfortunes.  Fine job by Dave to score a podium but unlucky with an extra stop thanks to a fragged mill and a late off that handed me P2.

Sorry to learn that some had difficulties with their pit stop in not being able to find their stall.  I tested offline and again in qualifying to verify that my board showed.  It did.  I checked my stop time at 9s.  However, in the race, stopping at the end of Lap01 having gassed for the distance, I couldn't see it where it should have been.  No worries.  I simply stopped, counted a slow 9s...replay shows that I was stationary for 12s...and proceeded.  Job done.

I got into some grand duels with Billy, Andreas and Ronnie Nilsson.  That was great fun.  However, my vision pretty much collapsed on Lap02 and I anticipated hitting the showers early.  My right eyeball fogged over horribly and I was essentially driving with one eye only.  Not fun and a lot of guesswork going on behind the wheel.  As we got farther into the race, I decided to try and last to half distance.  As people started to disappear off the leaderboard and I rose in the charts, I decided to stick with it and ended up chasing Dave for a podium spot.  Most unexpected but nevertheless welcome.  Around Lap30, the vision started to improve...tear ducts drained, I expect...and I was able to press an attack on DR.  Not much between us in performance.  A couple of small gaffes on my part...a 360 off the polos late in a lap...seemed to give Dave all he needed to prevail but a missed braking point coming off the main circuit had him in the gravel with just a handful of laps to go and I was through to P2.  Dean was long gone and with my ascending to P2, it became apparent that I had spent all my energies in pursuit of Dave.  Fatigue hit me hard and I started to cruise it a bit and only just held DR at the flag.  Another few laps and I would have been an easy target.

Today, Monday following, my eyes are smarting significantly.  Like having sand thrown in my face.  Must lay off for the rest of the day to compensate for the long race.  The price to be paid for pushing 70...

....grrrrr !
