Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Gareth on January 11, 2017, 09:11:27 AM +0000 I know you mean every second Tuesday ;)
Track selection - I haven't heard of any of them :o Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 11, 2017, 09:49:01 AM +0000 LOL Maybe an explanation would be good here.
All of those circuits are actually original Papyrus tracks, but they are reversed!! As it is the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season we felt that we should use those same tracks. But as we are running those in the Sunday night 67 races we felt that it would be a little simple to run the same tracks on Tuesdays. All of this seasons racing in the Specials Trophy will run backwards around the original 67 tracks. So, there is no excuse for not knowing the tracks, ahem ::), but perhaps you will see them from a different perspective. This has taken a little bit of background work to set up, nothing is ever quite as easy as one might think. We intend to run a practice race at Aznom ( Monza) next week and to test that everyone can make the small adjustments necessary for this. If I can do it, then literally anyone and his dog should be able to get this working!!! I am looking for a couple of volunteers to test the changes over the next few days before it is released to the general membership for the seasons racing. I have a zipped folder containing the reversed track files ( thanks to Axel for those) and a 76SEASON.ini ( 67SEASON reversed)file ready. As everyone has to be using GEM in order to run the 60fps this makes the procedure quite straightforward. 1) Download the folder 2) unzip and place the circuit files in your SIERRA\GPL\TRACKS folder wherever that is on your system. 3) unzip and place the 76SEASON.ini file in your SIERRA\GPL\SEASONS folder. 4) Open GEM and you should find the 76SEASON listed behind the "SEASONS" button which will have all of the reversed tracks listed for you. 5) select the track required from the main list. 6) Choose the particular carset that you wish to use and go racing. If there are a couple of members with time on their hands and can test this please get in touch via PM with an email address and I can forward the folder for the test. Once we are happy that this works OK we will upload the folder to one of our servers or a download site and everyone can grab a copy. In theory we can now run any track in the reverse direction and have effectively doubled the number of available tracks. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Doni Yourth on January 11, 2017, 01:01:47 PM +0000 Yes, Clive! I'd like to offer my services as a tester. PM coming with my email addy...
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 12, 2017, 03:12:39 PM +0000 Thanks to Axel for his hard work in getting this ready. We now have 3 people testing the reverse circuit package.
Provided there are no unexpected problems we will be releasing a download with all of the track files along with the new season.ini for your enjoyment very shortly. As soon as we have confirmation that the installation is as simple as we think it should be, there will be a fun race where members can try this out before the new season starts. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Jani Posta on January 13, 2017, 09:14:14 AM +0000 I'm quite sure that Nurby reversed will provide some interesting crashes :D
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 13, 2017, 10:49:36 AM +0000 For those who are testing this reversed track concept, it appears that there are a couple of spelling mistakes in the 76SEASON.ini file which are my fault ( :stupid: ) and might cause some issues.
If reverse dyslexia is a recognised impairment, then I guess I must have it!! Please check the .ini file and correct the reverse spelling of:- "Oxicem which should be Ocixem" and "Imalayak which should be Imalayk". It is important that the downloaded track files AND the new 76SEASON.ini file are used together and installed as described above. The tracks have been reversed from the original 1998 CD files, so are "virgin and pure" without any additional add-ons or updates. Although people may think that once they have the Aznom file they can run it from their normal 67SEASON.ini, there are reasons why this does not work correctly. Thanks to those who are beta testing this for us, and we hope to release this to the wider membership very soon. @Jani I don't think that it is just Nurby that you need to worry about!! muhahahahahah!!! :shifty: >:D Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Cookie on January 13, 2017, 04:04:55 PM +0000 I made all new again and uploaded it here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/p4hs1z)

And to Andy Livingston for offline trials.
It looks like we are ready to unleash the backwards races. Watch the forum for a fun race on Sunday prior to the Specials Season starting soon. Hope you enjoy the fun. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: GregT on January 15, 2017, 06:04:05 AM +0000 I found something I could exploit in the handicapping.
"In the 66 Can Am, PRO drivers can use any car with engine capacity below 335ci." The Lola T70 Ford 305 is as fast as Surtees's Lola and the M1B. With the track selection, I doubt the Lola T70 Ford 427 is better than the McLaren or Lola T70 333 c.i.d. I'd change the handicapping to read, "Pros can't drive the Lola T70 Chev 359, Lola T70 Ford 305, or McLaren M1B Chev 361." Nelg Sniktaw is the only track I'd dare take the Lola T70 427. I doubt it's as good as the 333 c.i.d.s there. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 15, 2017, 11:39:34 AM +0000 Thanks for your post Greg.
TBH I don't have that much experience with the 66 Can Ams so I welcome advice from those who have tamed these beasts. Do any other regular users of the 66CA feel the same about the proposed PRO's car choice? Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Gareth on January 15, 2017, 02:05:43 PM +0000 I would pick the 305 given a free choice of chassis.
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Tom van Ostade on January 15, 2017, 02:13:56 PM +0000 Yes the Lola Ford 305 is probably one of the easier cars to drive, but is also one of the fastest. The Lola Ford 427 is slow because it is heavy and has only two gears.
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Robert Fleurke on January 15, 2017, 02:50:40 PM +0000 Greg is right, Clive. Would be best to apply his suggestion IMO if you want to handicap Pro's ;)

Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 15, 2017, 03:45:26 PM +0000 Thanks for the feedback guys. I will amend the Announcements post as suggested.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CARS AVAILABLE FOR THE pro'S IN THE 66 CAN AMS HAVE BEEN CHANGED. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Tom van Ostade on January 15, 2017, 06:21:01 PM +0000 I would also include the Chaparral in the 1966 CA Pro list :) . It has a smaller engine and only two gears but it's on rails in the corners :) .
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Gareth on January 15, 2017, 06:34:18 PM +0000 Prior to the amendment, was there a limit on the number of times a pro driver could pick the same car? Easy, similar to the other mods, pro drivers only use a car once. there are only three ca66 races. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on January 16, 2017, 09:11:46 AM +0000 AAAAArrrggghh!!! at this rate there will be just one car for the Pro's in 66 Can Ams!! lol
It is good to know that the more experienced drivers are offering their views on which cars offer an advantage to the PRO drivers. I am keen to make this reversed season as competitive as possible for all levels of ability, and your input on this is welcome. I am going to hold off any further changes until we have a true consensus of opinion on the cars and I can make just one final amendment to the post. So keep posting your views guys, and in a couple of days we can set the final car group. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: Walter Conn on January 16, 2017, 08:26:33 PM +0000 In the 66CA read me, it suggests driving the slower cars first until you are more experienced. So I do not plan on driving the 427 this season (novice perspective). How about we use the gpl rank world record times (normal direction) to decide on the handicap.
Edit: I checked gplrank 66ca at the Nurburg, and some cars do not have laptimes posted yet. So, sorry for the poor recommendation. I will be happy with whatever the organizers decide. Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: GregT on January 22, 2017, 06:01:35 PM +0000 My apologies Clive. Thanks Tommie. I forgot about the Chaparral 2E. I've neglected it. I wanted to learn to drive the 2D and 2F well before I drove the 2E much. I've still got a lot of work to do to feel proficient with the two GT Chaparrals.
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: roguk on January 23, 2017, 12:35:39 PM +0000 Admin please delete me from this series voted reserve but prob will not be able to make these races.
Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: FullMetalGasket on January 26, 2017, 10:04:35 PM +0000 This seems silly - I'm in ;D
Although the 'Ring will be insane. I have a game that features backwards races on it and NEVER managed to learn it well enough to be happy :D Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: MagicArsouille on May 16, 2017, 08:07:29 PM +0100 hi ;)
I should do some races :) Title: Re: Season 31 Specials Series Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on May 16, 2017, 09:05:10 PM +0100 It is 9:05 and my gaming PC has just decided that it has detected a "rootkit virus"!!! so the AV has decided that it must do a ROOT SCAN.
I have no idea how long it will take, but I am hoping it is less than 20minutes!!! Just lately I seem doomed whenever I try and enjoy a race...................... :-\ Have fun if I don't make it guys. |
