Season 31 - 65 - Fun Race – Aznom (= Monza reverse)

The S31 Specials Series Trophy is running all Papy tracks in reverse direction!

To test that it works ok we will make a funrace...

Just put the track folders in ..\GPL\tracks
and
the RVseason.ini in ..\GPL\seasons
then
Start GPL 65mod via GEM+  choose RVseason

The event is unmoderated – but the usual high standards are expected.
 
Unlimited Shift R is allowed & there are no Stop & Go’s.

Works great so far! Only thing for me is that you do not have the trackpictures in GEM. So I made them with the arrow in the other direction. Maybe someone find it usefull. Just download them and put them in the GEM/Pictures directory.

Hi all
I'd like to partecipate but I m not sure my settings are right in my GPL..
In IGOR I don't see any server, so I run GPL and in "multiplayer" screen I wrote the IP manually, but nothing happens
Where am I doing wrong?

Hi, fellas!  I was just on the server for a few test laps @ 07:30 hours my local(Toronto)time.  Everything ran smoothly.  No glitches whatsoever.

Hope to see a nice turnout for this unique event.  :)

Yes it works, just did a few laps. Only the horizon moves a bit on the frontstraight at times with steering directions (90% detail level). Thanks all involved for your efforts, especially Clive and Axel. Andreas, thanks, works as well. Could you zip/rar all files together next time though!?  :P

Tried this morning with new IP and I entered on server correctly, but now with same IP not works for me..
No server show in IGOR

As this mode wants me to manually restart each session, it is possible that there is a gap...

Some more remarks:

You can invert your camber settings using your normal Monza setup. Also braking for Lesmo 2 is a bit estimating/on feel without a darkening groove and markers.

I was able to do a few practice laps offline, and then my son and his cousin wanted to play Lego Batman on my PC.  ::)

Sudden disco at lap 13.I don't know if was my line.Until lap 13 the race was fun with battle with Posta and Doni.

Really sorry that I could not join you guys last night for our first REVERSED race, but my daughter had given my wife and I a pair of tickets for a concert as a Christmas present, and well.....we kinda had to go didn't we??

 Great to see such a large grid for this first trial run, looking forward to reading everyone's views on the experience and I hope that you all join in the Specials Season in the coming months.

Thanks again to all of those who helped in getting the reversed tracks working and usable. It might have been my wild fantasy to try it but I needed some serious help from other more knowledgeable members to sort the technical details.  :thumbup2:

( For those who are even remotely interested in who we went to see, it was "Rumours" the Fleetwood Mac tribute band. They were excellent and played just about all of the classic tracks of the original band from the 60's blues numbers right through to the latest offerings.)

I would have to consider the whole exercise a complete success.  No problems whatsoever in running Monza in the reverse direction.  I saw only two small graphic issues...one, some Armco glitch in the far distance as the Curva Grande came into view but that quickly resolved itself and two, some distant popup approaching the Parabolica that again was brief and not a damning factor.  10/10.

After being shunted down to last place and running on my own for a considerable period, I ultimately hooked up with Fran and we had a fine old duel going for some laps.  Good stuff and sorry to learn that you were turfed.  Later, I hooked up with Gareth for a rousing duel in our 2nd tier Climax-powered cars that made for some memorable give-n-take.  That was great fun and unless I'm very much mistaken, it's the first time that Gareth and I have crossed swords.  Quite an impressive run, GH.  :)

there is a little something wrong with the Armcos at distance, but that don't matter.
once the few drivers who got it wrong early on caught and passed me, Doni caught me and we had some fun, thx Doni fair driving, and only 0.049 at the line. :).

Edit, its 6pm on a Friday in 1997, your a pappy track editor working on some scenery at nurby and want a pint. "it will be imposable to get a car here, ill just do this bit quickly". 20 years later comes flying in at 220mph a MC 8F. ???, maybe Im wrong but i think more testing.

Has anyone else tested Nurby in ANY of the proposed cars that we intend to use? and what issues have you found?

This race for me was a test for my PC, because I would like to participate in your champ, but I can't say I'm happy for poor FPS
Before the race I tried some start race with AI (full grid) and I never went above 20/24 FPS, I improved a little bit decreasing details level, no affect like smoke etc.., and especially with 1280x1024 instead 1920x1200 that I usually I use, with this configuration they were  a little bit under 30 at the start and 44/48 in race
Strange because with XP (now Win7 with same graphic card) they were at 60 without problems
If I solved this problem I'd like run with you

No problem with track, only did not see well the wall before parabolica, but this maybe due my settings graphic

Well, this is extreme fun!
I just did some laps on the server with my beloved ChapE...

No problems at all, just the sometimes little flickering of the sky, wich seems to be a "problem" of the rasterizer.

I have driven all reversed tracks with various 66CanAm cars offline and with some AI races and some with F2's without any pribluda, track, flag or pitboard trouble.
There are places where it seems that you are looking around the back of the scenery. Rows of trees alongside the track end abrupty coming this way.

At Nurby the elevation changes show many odd bits - sky under the hedge and impossible overhangs at the edge of the GPL world. For me, it doesn't detract very much from trying to keep the car on the track. There's enough to do there without sightseeing. I am still with 1600x1024 on a 20 inch monitor, so it might look worse in more detail. The Nurby placename boards have the placename on the wrong side now. The start is difficult - funnelling into a tight snaky armco section.

Monaco start is also difficult straight into a hairpin and I found that the collision box on the inside of that (Gasometers) hairpin is much more unforgiving than coming the normal way. The car rolls backwards in the pits at Spa (it did roll forwards the normal way?), which is a bit of a surprise first time.
Generally, I think if you stay on track and concentrate on the track, there are no troubles racing this way.

I enjoyed the aznoM race very much. Not sure I could quite take Curva Grande (ednarG avruC) quite flat out. I wonder if some tracks are faster in the reverse direction.

Yes Andy, the CG goes flat in this direction as you do not enter it in such speed as in normal direction  ;)

Nurby is in some parts way easier in reverse, so the times will be pretty much the same.
But if you look for the landscape, you will be lost soon...

This is definately a sleeping graphics card!
It does not recognize GPL as a 3D program.

Look in setup window of GPL it does 3Dmode!
You must tweak the NVidia settings to get it in high 3D mode.

Finally I found the problem, I hope.. (sorry for "OT" but maybe can help someone else :angel: )

Until last year I had XP with GTX 550ti video card and I always used GPL in D3D mode without problems, now I have Win 7 64bit and the game works correctly but with few FPS when full grid
So I tried to change my actually GTX 1050 with old video card with the last driver that always worked fine, but with no solution, after many attemps with various settings the solution is to use GPL in OPEN GL mode
Now my FPS returned at max 60, or 36, at resolution native 1920x1200 and full details

The question is at this point.. Is Win7 the problem? It seems that way

No problem for drive but if anyone know a possible solution for this, it woulb be appreciated
