Might be a bit tight for me to get into practice 1 in time as me and the wife are out at a antenatal (is that how you spell it) class .... but I should definately make it in sometime during qualification.  Definately not going to miss this one as I really like Barca.

Looks very unlikely I will be with you guys tonight  :'( I'm in one of my rare 10 min spells where I have an internet connection  :o

I applied for ADSL Max (the 8Mpbs service) and I don't seem to be able to get a reliable connection. The man on the help desk told me everytime the link dropped BT system tweaks tables to get a resiliient connection and this process can take 24-48 hours. Personally I'm skeptical. It's been a day so far and it's rubbish  >:(

Bummer Picnic :(

My ISP has just posted this for the users having MAX regrades;

Quote
Dear all,

Today's the day that the first of a large bulk of MAX regrades have gone through. I've received a number of queries already, but please bear this in mind if you're experiencing slow downs:

First and foremost, I need not remind most people, but MAX is also a contended service. While you can still experience fast speeds during peak hours, you're more likely to get faster speeds during off-peak times (1am-6am).

Now, the fun part ...

There are two speeds involved, the sync speed, and a speed that's set in BT's BRAS.

With the latter, there's a known issue which means the speed in the BRAS doesn't get changed. BT are working on fixing this, but for most people this won't be a problem, especially after a few days at MAX speeds (more details here).

The first thing that happens when a MAX regrade goes through is it sets about determining your highest possible speed. Now in order to do this, it has to keep cranking up the speed to see what happens. Every telephone line is different and will respond differently. Think of it as a sort of stress test; in order to work out what the maximum possible speed is, it has to go a little nuts to find out what your line's limit is.

This whole process can take up to 10 days. During this time you'll find your line goes down briefly and then comes back up at a new sync speed. This is perfectly normal.

While your line's maximum speed is being worked out, it will likely be run at speeds that it can only support with little or no reliability. This can actually result in slowdowns, because as with anything, when it's working outside of its limits, it gets a little flustered and can't do things properly. Those with routers may then notice more errors in their logs, as well as their noise margin (AKA "signal to noise ratio" or "SNR") dropping through the floor. These can all add up and result in slower throughput, because while your line rate may be faster, it's ultimately lost efficiency.

So please give your regrade some time and let the dust settle.

Thanks Pops, maybe all is not lost. This connection is more stable, nkP just downloaded at 360KBps so that's 50% up on the old 2Mbps line. Fingers crossed for tonight but the ping I'm running in the background is dropping packets so if I make it and I am warping I'll get out.

I'm afraid the main UKGTR server has gone AWOL again as with some other servers at the server provider.

Support call has been put in by Picnic. Doubt it will be resolved before tonights race though so this is likely to get postponed.

Very sorry, out of our hands.

Just to make it official...

RACE POSTPONED

Very sorry for the inconvience.

To try and help in future is there anyone out there that has a 24 player capable dedicated server/internet connection who would not mind using it as a backup server for UKGTR (or even as a second division)? I know some of our european members have much better internet connections than us poor underpriveleged Brits  :whistling:, so maybe there are some options out there for us?

It's kinda a good thing though, would've wiped the floor with you all har har.. :P
Yeah, no-one noticed that in the new skin pack, I smuggled in a jet engine in the back....would've left ya for dust on the straights!  :whistling:

Not 100% sure what the issue was yet, the hosters have reported that everything should be back to normal and I can connect to the server again. It was still running the practice session I set up after the endurance race on Sunday so my guess is a network issue.

Sorry for the disappointment.

Uhm, I think 24 will be too much for me. Here are my specs:
PC
PIV 3.2
2 gb ram
X800PE

Connection
7mb down
750 up

But if I use this system as a dedi server, I can't race myself. And our other PC is only a PIV 2,4 with a Radeon 9800pro.
I never tested a sevrer with many players, but I strongly doubt I can host a full grid race. And not using dedi server will cause xtreme lag when somebody joins or quits on my PC. I should do a stresstest sometime to see how far I can go.

I'm not sure what the real specs are for a 24 player server in GTR. But what I do know is that with my system I had a dedi server running a couple of nights and when I asked peeps they had 100 ms ping and it was smooth. Up to 17 I think players.
Connection was 4MB down/0.7MB up. System same as now almost: AMD 2400+, 768MB RAM, Radeon 9800 PRO, maxtor 160GB.

The servers u rent aren't a lot (or any for that matter) higher spec than the systems some people have at home nowadays, so I find it hard to believe that it's impossible to run a 24 player server in that way. Of course there could be something I'm missing :), but if we never try, we never know :D.

Indeed, the current league server is a paultry P4 2.4 so your spare system Ruskus should cope with 24 but I suspect the upload will restrict it to less.

Thanks to SpaceFox for running his server last night. After the aborted first start I was lucky to get 2nd on the grid again behind Tom, and after passing him had eeked out a 7 sec gap. I kept expecting Claus to come zooming back through the field, but the I was on my own till the connection dropped out :-( Who won in the end?

The NT task manager thing only shows 1-1.5 Mb in use generally, def not 3-5. Perhaps it's low because the server is beginning to struggle at that level. Anyone got a 30 player LAN so we can test it ;)

Yeah, but even though it only uses that much I think it needs the extra bandwidth capacity to keep throughput at the same level.
If only we had a nice array of different connections and the same PC to try it all with.  ;D

Shame I missed this one - nothing I could do though, the missus got taken into hospital so there were a few other things to be done ... she was kept in overnight, but both mother and baby are fine, but we have been advised to get everything ready as "jnr" is more than likely going to turn up early... :scared:

I'll try and make the GT race this coming week, but I'll just have to play things by ear (and I'm only a reserve for the GT race)

Rules state

"Joining Events

    * Drivers who are full time members of the division should attempt to join an event at the start of the Practice 1 session.
    * Drivers who are reserves should not join until 5 minutes before the end of Practice 1 (based on the published start time)."

OK, I had a disconnection in qually, so under this ruling I should not expect to be able to rejoin the race.

But, on a morale ground, I joined the server at the start of Practice, and even put up a time in Qually. Then I had the Disco from game, after that more Reserves joined and game was full!

Oh wot ever. I am just peeved that I could not race that all. :-[

Who won ???

What a pile of *****.  >:(

Joined the game, it wouldnt give me a pit berth, kept spawning me on the opposite side of the pit wall  ???  First time I tried to drive round to join the pit lane, which I found out you cant, and it disqualified me for driving in the wrong direction!. At the beginning of each session it was spawning me in the same place, so couldnt qualify. Fortunately it put me on the grid for the start of the race. Then at end of form lap me and Edza (teamie) came together trying to avoid a Morgan I think, who seemed to be suffering pc problems. So I started the race with a damaged car, and then at start of lap 4 I think, car lurched to left and dumped me into the gravel, at which point I gave up.

Welcome to Season 3.

Cheers

Rob

PS - Hope you all had a good race   :)

Had 3rd on the grid and was really looking forward to league racing again, but got discoed when the game went to warmup.  >:(
Shame, as Barcelona is good for me, but Magny Cours is far from my best track.

Hope the race was a good one.

Paul

PS From what I could see there were reserves in the game before the -5 min cutoff.

whoohoo, very chuffed with 6th place in such esteemed company on the first round...and i dont usually like Barcelona !  8)

Had a great qually session battling all the way with SBG, always a couple of hundreths just ahead of me each time i set a quicker time..nice one mate!.  Truetom, Pops and aagram were sniffing very closely too. Would have been a high qually spot if so many aliens were not present ::) Got 10th in the end.

Race started well, apart from a scary moment swerving round a disco'd car :o. Stuck to SBG's rear bumper for a few laps putting him under pressure and eventually got past him under braking and nipping up the inside. I slowly pulled away from him and was catching MarkGp who then had an off and i was able to nick past, with things looking good.
I then had to fight off a strong challenge from MarkGP as he came back at me with a vengeance, but i kept my line and cool and he eventually had another lockup and i was able to pull away..phew.
Up ahead i only had to catch Leuven and a bunch of aliens to get into the top 5 ::) Saw Leuven run wide at one point but other than that i could match the pace of whoever was ahead but couldnt close the steady gap formed from my early battles.
Was hoping a couple of fast boys might have a tangle and allow me to sneak a higher place but alas they were firm and fast.

Very happy with my 6th place finish  8)

Well.....at least I finished I suppose.....

A stationary Morgan at the last corner on the warm up lap surprised the hell out of me and I spun, turning around and nearly ending Robs race (sry dude!).
Left rear was a bit hot and dusty after that but I went hell for leather thinking "gotta catch 'em all, gotta catch 'em all!"

Needless to say, a bit too much enthusiasm and I had several offs after I should have let the tires cool down but didn't.

Mo: My god you scared the crap out of me! Had a spin and it was a bit blurry but I remember looking in my rear mirror and seeing "grass, barrier, road, grass, barrier, MO!!!" My apologies dude!

Hope I didn't get in anyones way while being the Ide of the race tonight.... ::)

My first porsche league race ever, and it ended quite good.

In qually I had a PB of 1:44.3xx, but seeing times of 1:43.7xx made me grap my rikketik .
In the first couple of laps I was behind Leuven. A couple of times I could show my face in his mirror but I didn't have the speed to make a move. Luckily for me he went on the gravel, and I took 4th. After that it was pretty uneventfull for me. RS was between me and Leuven at that time, so I had some room to breath. All I had to do was watch my tires.
Eventhough I did that, I was driving on my brakediscs at 30 minutes of racing. So Leuven gained fast. Then there was a backmarker with which I had no problems, but when I looked behind L was in the grass. Without that, he would have gotten me surely, as I had no grip at all. I started drifting a bit to spare my fronts :whistling:
Then a strange thing happened, with Mo(sler) infront. I think he ran out of gas 2 laps before the end :o. So I was on 3rd place then.
No way for me to beat the two aliens :alien: :alien: infront. Most racetimes were faster than my qually time.

If I get the repay of this race, I'm gonna do a video of it. For promotion purpose, or just for fun. So if you guys can give me times in replay of nice overtaking manouvres, or just stuff that is worth watching, it will help me big time, and I'l appreciate it alot. Also, input on the background song is welcome too.

Replay (http://www.ukgtr.org/replay/Barcelona%20-%20NGT%20Sprint%20S3%20250406.zip) and provisional results are available.

Sorry to hear about peoples problems. I was 2 mins late starting the server so reserves would have been allowed in effectively 2 mins early as I don't believe they can see the session time left. There was certainly a flurry of joiners around the 8:40 mark.

Race for me was pretty pants, didn't seem to have any pace and simply understeered everywhere. Good little battle with TT for a few laps until I binned it under braking and then had a recovering Pops chasing me. Lucky for me he span and gave me a little breathing space.

Huge pace shown by the quick guys upfront. I have no idea how you do it, respect  :)

Sorry to hear your woes Paul,Rob, Mo and, judging by the number of stationary cars, unfortunately you weren't the only ones struck down  >:(. Congrats to the winners.

Another good race for me though, despite being off practice pace (bye, bye momo  :-\). Yet again, battled Mark J and Aagramn for the first 10 or so laps. I think the 911's extra grunt saved me this time Aagramn, have you been practicing those last two corners  ;)? After a while I was left with comfortable gap behind and in front to them. I had one dull lap until Mark@GP span pressing Mark J and he got stuck behind me for a change of scenery. I was a lot slower but its just so difficult to overtake there that I think he span trying to force a mistake out of me, thanks for being patient when you must have been tearing your hair out. Welcome to the mid-field club Mark@GP, its great fun there  ;D.

Its happening a little to often now Mark J, my turn at Monza I hope  :P.

p.s. I laughed when people have been caught out by automatic updates, no longer. My little sausage set the update time to 2200 every Tuesday. Made for an interesting last lap (with massive lag followed by flip to desktop) but didn't lose a place luckily.

Had a pretty good race. Qualified 12th with a PB in the Mosler, in the middle of an NGT Legends sandwich (I'm not speculating on the ingredients). Was always in a battle for the duration, mostly with SBG which was giving me serious deja-vu from the GT sprint. Had a silly off towards the end which cost me a couple places, had to drive through a lot of sand to rejoin safely. Was catching FlyBri towards the end, and got within a couple seconds before getting a fuel warning! Put 44 mins worth in but it almost wasn't enough - backed right off for the last lap and finshed in 9th with a litre and a half in the tank.

Excellent pace shown by the front runners, and congratulations on the win Emmo.

I think the 911's extra grunt saved me this time Aagramn, have you been practicing those last two corners  ;)?

Find it easier to get the mid-engined Mosler to turn-in to those fast corners than the front-engined Lister.  :) Had some practise in the 360, but found I was faster in the Mosler.

Don't know if any reserves joined early, but when I came in at 8:40 there were still 5 slots left on the server. Understand it's frustrating for the full-times if they can't get in. Best way to be sure of your spot is to camp in the lobby at 8:30 until the server appears. If you get a disco that's plain unlucky  :(, don't think we can do much about that really. Fingers crossed that we can support larger grids if we can get the server upgraded.

Firstly congratulations to the winner Jeffrey Ruskus, the other two don't count  :P Sorry Emmo and Claus  :-* Only joking, well done guys, so fast as ever, nice to see you again if only for 1/2 a lap

We I had a fairly quiet race really just was that bit slower Ruskus but faster than the guy behind so was having my own little race.... Lueven then went off and did a great job to catch up but he was faster, I'm not sure waht tyres he was running but the first lapas were in th 50's ??? Hards maybe, but they held him in good stead by the end. i was running on discs with Jeff, same setups does that.

Anyway held Leuven off for a couple of laps but just let him pass to easy.... Next lap I had a very nice slide, four wheel marks left not sure how I kept it on, luck i think !!!

Then approx two laps from end 'mo' was sitting off the track maybe out of fuel, I couldn't help but have a little grin and a wave.... Sorry 'mo'  ;)

I did notice people leaving before the end though that caused some lag, is it not a rule not to leave??

I was very happy with 5th couldn't hope to be much higher

Thanks for the good driving.

RS

Yep I saw you waving as you went past RS :P

I ran out of fuel with one to go  :'( :'( :'( but still, I'm happy with my drive running in 3rd in the Mosler.

I qualled in 5th behind Leuven and got a good start, the Mosler seems to have relatively good grip on cold tyres.
Noticed I was somehow in 4th and sad to hear that teamie Paul got disco :(
Then Leuven got onto the marbles at Repsol and had to back off, which allowed me to steal the racing line at the hairpin and nip around the outside for 3rd.
After that it was fingers crossed that the tyres would last and try to maintain the gap to Ruskus behind, which I just about managed.

Congrats to Emmo on the win , great pace at the front.

Amazing pace by all the drivers last night, I think 16 of us posted sub 1:46's in qualifying which was brilliant!

The race went very poorly for me, made a couple of big mistakes to take me off the track, happily no-one else was affected.

Qualified 13th, finished 13th.

But, on a morale ground, I joined the server at the start of Practice, and even put up a time in Qually. Then I had the Disco from game, after that more Reserves joined and game was full!

I'm very sorry to say that is just bad luck.

The best thing we can do is what we are heading towards at the moment (a higher capacity server). This should come online within the next 2 - 3 weeks, at which point we can support more drivers (exactly how many is to be determined, but it should be into the 30s at least).

If reserves are joining well before the regulated time and you know who they are, politely ask them to leave until the correct time.

Well I was one of the reserves who joined at 20:40 last night.  At the time of joining there were 5 or 6 spare slots, these were soon filled up as a lot of reserves joined at 20:40.
I have no idea if there were any reserves in the server before 20:40, if there were then shame on them.

That was me losing the connection just before the start of the race. I saw it comming when all cars around me dissapeared so I quickly turned all the way to the right beside the pit wall to clear the way and then finally lost the connection. Sorry for the troubles but it came as a surprise for me as well. To bad as I had a nice qualifying and started in 6th position with my trusty Morgan so it could have been a nice fight for the podium.

GJ to winner.

I thought i had a good pace but the best i managed in qualiy was 16th lol. Fantastic pace by everyone in particular the top 6.

I was a reserve and joined at 20:40. There was 5 places remaining. The way i see it, the rules clearly state reserves cannot join until after 20:40. After that we are allowed to join the server. We should not be harassed because such and such (full time driver) is trying to get into server and can't. Like already mentioned, full time drivers should be ready to join at 20:30. As for the ppl that got disco'd, i feel your pain, i would be well p*ssed myself but without any reasonable suggestions what is the way forward until we get a larger server? Dont know why NGT is popular this season, i did both GT and NGT last season, NGT wasn't this popular!

Had a good race, Made some places on the first lap, Kept a good pace and half way through race i managed to get within 2 secs at one point to the Aagramn, SBG, Mark J battle but in the push to catch up with them, my tyres took a pounding and i couldn't maintain their pace and slowly drifted further behind them, good pace guys. Made some places up when ppl started making mistakes near the end. Finished 8th and didn't have any offs, which is remarkable for me  :D

A massive apology to Truetom, i made the slightest contact on his inside rear corner going into a slow righthander, but it was enough to put him into a spin and into the gravel. Sorry for ruining your race dude  :(.

Flybri.

We had 32 drivers apply for full-time NGT slots Leuven, so it wasn't possible to accomodate everyone.

By way of forewarning, it would appear from the earlier unofficial poll that NGT will be much more heavily subscribed than GT; if you ask for a full time spot in both series, chances are that you'll be full time in GT but reserve in NGT.

Dave managed to wrangle it so every driver who asked got at least one full-time slot, in either GT or NGT.

thx guys  :)  i had a nice race.
i planned to keep up with Claus as much as possible in the race, but really thought he would be too fast. after some laps i noticed that our laptimes were very much the same and towards the middle of the race i started to put some pressure on Claus. i came close, but never close enough to have a go for it. when Claus went off the track, trying to overtake a backmarker, i could pass and take it home. exciting race, especially as we pushed eachother to some nice laptimes  8)

btw. i'm not added to the GTN Drivers club yet, how can i fix this?

Yer is my fault, I had completely forgot to add Emmo to the team roster, should be fine now, but guess we miss out on his points for the first race then, no biggie tho

About the race, had more pressure from Emmo than Id expected tbh, but I was just doing 'Schumi'-tactics not overdriving, atleast when not needed, he got close once but never anything serious, felt all was under control, atleast until Tyf joined the track in the Renualt curve and took the speed out of us, I decided try go outside, but bad call, rear just slided and had to do some rally-driving in the gravel to keep car under control. After that it was all lost, Emmo was 7s ahead and could just cruise home  ;D

Almost didnt make the race tho, thought I was going mad, game wouldnt accept the PW, until Emmo MSN'ed me saying it wasnt the PW I had provided him with, doh, I was sure it was same pw as for the enduro

Sadly GTR (and GTL) don't provide reliable lap chart information because 'invalid' laps (eg. accidentally cutting a chicane or getting a warning for running wide) aren't recorded. :(

I suggest CJ does this for GTR races and if it works for GTL as well, obviously Ruskus himself can do those!

Thanks for the info SBG, this is the first info I've got, so it will probably go in the video (if there will be one, cause I need more info).
I need a good replay file, the one I've got from RS is not very smooth, which might look bad in the video, so if anybody can upload a replay with high fidelity, it would be much appreciated.

About the lapchart thing, it is possible in GTL, they do it in Comet. Just have a look at this (http://home.student.utwente.nl/a.j.g.n.paagman/gtr/Comet%20Mondello%2017-04-06/sMondello.htm)

They use a file called GTL report analyzer. It's an excel file. Now all I have to do is figure out how it works. Something with importing the racedata.

They use a file called GTL report analyzer. It's an excel file. Now all I have to do is figure out how it works. Something with importing the racedata.

Unless I am, like Murray Walker, very much mistaken, the report analyzer just slices and dices the server export. Certainly there's nothing in the report which can't be gotten from there, but as I say, the data is usually incomplete, and at tracks where it's easy to accidently be given a course cutting warning, can wind up being full of holes. :(

I had contact with the guy that makes the Lapcharts for Comet, and he send me the file. He uses that to make the lapcharts. He throws in the server-resultfile and gets a HTML file out it. Dunno how it works yet, but I'm working on it.
