Post by: Rainier on February 03, 2017, 10:36:23 PM +0000
SEASON 31 Amateurs Trophy (65) : Round 1  STARDUST

Long time gone track, Stardust was built in 1965 by the Stardust Hotel and Casino.
It hosted the season finale of the Can-Am Championship between 1966 and 1968.
In 1969 the Stardust hotel was sold and the new owners largely abandoned the track; leased for a while then the whole land was sold. In 1970 track was closed and Spring Valley community took its place.

Check the Season 31 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=587&theme=6) regarding rules and the Amateurs (65) Trophy pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=594&theme=6) in particular.
Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

- NO Reset allowed per race.

In your ...\GPLSecrets\iGOR folder edit iGOR.ini:

Not sure Rog. Maybe the mods or Jethro can post server IP for you to join through direct IP...

Rog,

I guess it may be worth searching for any other igor.ini files & updating them too (after closing igor down first of course).

Cheers,
Dave.

Managed a few laps in qually, then GPL started crashing.
Was able to connect to the server, but then was crashing when trying to get in the car, even with a gplc65.exe rebuild.

Never mind,  hopefully see you chaps next time.  Have a good one!

Cheers,
Dave.

For me not a good start of season. At the first curve UK65 sends me into a spin, after this my brake came into operation without touching the pedal. One time Billy have avoided me but the second was fatal and my car have entered a spin in curve. Finally Bastian threw  me out at 3 laps of the end.The only fun was the battle with Billy but invalidated by the brake problem.

Competition is going to be really tough in this division. Looking at the fastest lap times there is an overlap between the top half of the Ams & the bottom half of the Pro's.
Have not raced here in the 65's before so difficult to know what a benchmark time is. I though 1,45 wouldn't be so bad but found about 3 seconds a lap in the race.
Bad luck to;
DC - hope you get the connection sorted.
Fabio - having some issues with the right foot braking. Your speed on a single lap is nearly there.
Fran - really enjoyed our battle. Guessed you had some sort of problem.  Also getting interesting with Rog on the last few laps.

Really enjoyed the race in a new chassis and much more fun to drive than the Lotus.

Nice circuit and had a good chase with Rog for the middle part but his early braking caught me out a couple of times, the second time Dave gave me a little kiss as I got going again. Not going to report as I had no ill effects, up to you if you do Dave.

Made a nice pass on Dave after his stop into turn 2 when he was boxed in behind Rog who I knew would brake earlier than me.

Once I finally got past Rog into some clean air it was just a case of pegging Dave behind with no chance of catching the leading 2.

Looking forward to Rouen.

No I will not report this one.
I had not yet look at the replay but I think it is just a racing incident (maybe hard moderator could consider you made a bad rejoin on track, but moderators of this serie are not severe :) )

Billy is right, there are drivers in this serie who could easily race with the Pros.
Gareth is one of them and probably he will have to use Cooper, BT7 or Honda in Rouen.

Good opening round! At one point in the race, I found my self in the lead with four cars in striking distance. I feel lucky to finish second with faster and more consistent drivers behind me. Gareth overtook me into turn 2. Miner and David R. were able to pull alongside me on the back straight. I was barely able to keep my position both times. I am sure that they would have had more opportunities had they not had bad luck during the race.

I was sorry to see Dave C. have connection problem. Thank you to our hosts / moderators for setting up the Ams. I think that I drove a little harder because I was near the front.

Congrats to my team mate Gareth for pole, FL, and the win!

Had some good racing, thanks Mike for being patient behind me, tires went off last part of race which led to several offs.
Sorry Francesco if my fault, mods will sort it. Have not watched replay yet (how do you get to UKGPL3 ftp or do you have to register at sendspace to get replay)?

Grats to Gareth on win

This is the right link (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/Archive/Season31/Ams/) to the Ams replays.

Alternatively, when links don't work: choosing Replays from the main site; then go left below to Direct FTP access. Choose Replays, then Archive, Season31, and then the right division.

My Race Fun ended when Fabio Locarno didn't let himself lap and we colided.

I Could stick back to Rainier with a lot anger in me, but you took that corner much slower than i expected.(or i take it usually)
I'm sorry about that.

My Race Fun ended when Fabio Locarno didn't let himself lap and we colided.

I have to say Fabio was not very helpful with the leaders.
He doesn't allow Walter to overtake him easily and without risk.
It was good for me, as I could fill the gap with Walter at this moment.

Please Fabio, let the leaders easily pass when they are coming to lap you.

Always the same. You try always overlap that are sure incident, anyway i don't want to start another discussion with you.The result is my car out and your no.So,probably, was wizzard on the track and not your car.
Instead to say me to stop racing, why you don't join the profesional? In this way we have solved the problem.

Francesco and Bastian,
Report incidents and let the moderation decide.
Please don't continue this discussion in the forum.

The past is the past, and we cannot change what has been done. Just try to improve yourself whatever you are doing  ;)

It was really a nightmare!
I solved all my PC issue when offline alone but online with other drivers I was suddenly dropping FPS on different track zones (only 24-30 FPS): is Stardust a FPS hungry track?!?
Also, braking with right foot it's not really easy when in race: I guess I missed the gear hundred times...
I hope it will be better on next Sunday with the 67s @Kyalami.

@Bastian & Rainier
I always tried to let the racing line to the drivers that were lapping me.

See you on track.
Cheers

fL

Exactly the same problem I have.  The extra concentration necessary to coordinate right foot braking with H-Shifter and left foot clutch control is very hard to master when hot lapping.  But in race when there is so much more to think about it is extremely tough indeed.  I've started to improve but I still miss a lot of shifts from 2nd to 3rd and from 5th to 4th when the pressure is on in a race.  Hot lapping practice helps a little but it is no substitute for a full-on race.  All I can say is that it is tough but getting easier the more races I do.

Keep persevering Fabio!  Now I've made the move, I'd never go back to left foot braking, it seems unnatural now.

For me, the foot coordination is ok, but I had a bad habit of keeping only one hand on the wheel (most of the time).

The same for me ,also if the transition from 2 pedals to 3 is resulted in the loss of some second per lap.

Thank you, Fabio.

You can also running slower when a leader is lapping you, especially on a track where it is not easy to cleanly overtake.

By the way, you do not disturb me during the race, but, from what I could see,  I think the opinion of Walter on that subject could be interesting.

As Billy wrote in the registration thread, sometimes lapped traffic makes the race more interesting. For this race, I was prepared to be patient while lapping, and it worked out pretty good for me.

Have not watched replay yet (how do you get to UKGPL3 ftp or do you have to register at sendspace to get replay)?

This is the right link (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/Archive/Season31/Ams/) to the Ams replays.

Alternatively, when links don't work: choosing Replays from the main site; then go left below to Direct FTP access. Choose Replays, then Archive, Season31, and then the right division.

In both cases, it doesn't work !

Philippe,  In LM2 you need to make Official, Update Status and Generate Standings.  Only then will the report appear  ;)

I'm still not sure if i get this system right. In the end it is only me who is punished. il lupo manaro isn't punished although he started that chain reaction. francesco's punishment isn't doing anything because he stay's last. Or what's about that penalty points ? i don't get it.

Bastian
Each incident is examined independently.  If you want to appeal any or all of the incidents please PM me.

I agree punishing someone who is last has no net effect (apart from amassing penalty points).  But unfortunately we cannot reinstate a victim's position so all we can do is punish the perpetrator.

The penalty points system is built into the SRou web site.  It is intended to counteract the weakness you have highlighted in that it is not possible to demote drivers who have already finished last.  A description of the penalty system is under the "Yellow Card System" on this (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/penalties) page. A worked example is here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/yellow_card_example).
