Post by: EvilClive on April 24, 2017, 08:09:14 PM +0100
Season 31-Joe Shaw Trophy – Adelaide

The final round of the Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy
Again we will be using the original 67 cars and the points won over the three races will decide who gets their hands on the magnificent trophy that Malcolm Shaw ( Joe's father) has provided. The winner might like to join us at Brands Hatch for the race weekend on the 1st July where hopefully Malcom will join us to present the trophy.

Points are awarded on the historic scale, 9 for a win down to 1 point for 6th. The series will run over three rounds at Carthage, Tripoli & Adelaide.

For Round 3 we take a trip down under to an old favourite track, to race around the streets of Adelaide. It is a different challenge from the first 2 tracks, but still offers a long straight for the faster cars to use their power

I've heard Adelaide described in many ways in the past - but a circuit which 'only has 2 real braking zones' isn't one of them!  ;D

I could probably make that work in '55 mod

Screen freeze on lap 17ish :(

Until then I was quite pleased with my pace.  Slowly getting better with the right foot braking.

Screen freeze just after Tris had caught back up with me.
Have fun working out where I actually finish - The server appeared to loose me on about lap 10!
I was 17 laps down I think when I disco'd, and 400Yds behind Robert  ;D

Same Phil, and same for me driving with the black momo. 30.1 on prib, but only a 31.1 best so far in the race, and went off over the kerbs after trying to tuck in behind Tris at T1  ::)

It looks like a whole bunch of you got disco'd at the same time  :(  Really sorry that your races ended that way as there appeared to be many close battles throughout the field.

Only 4 finishers running at the end and Robert once again dominant. It was good to see so many cars on the grid and a good few Ams drivers getting amongst the front runners . I had several laps chasing Bastian in his Ferrari early in the race and it was very intense and good, fun racing.  :)

If there had been a chance of someone else taking the Trophy this year, I might be persuaded to find time for a re-run but..............................???

Thanks to all of you who raced in this series and made it a fitting tribute to a young man who was a true racer.

What a shame so many discoed just after halfway, saw Arf disappearring in front of me. :(

Tris led early on before he went off. Tim followed close, but was able to make a gap after some laps. Really hard to do a clean lap here, should be able to do mid29 or so when getting all sectors right. Intense track. Ran another consistent race, and Tris or Tim wouldn't have caught me.

Was fun especially early on, well done to Doni, Dean and Clive. Commiserations to the DNF's. Lapped cars were very courteous.

Tried my best in all events in the sixth Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy Series. I meant it when I would love to see more other names on the Trophy besides Andy, Clive and me. Next year please restrict me to BRM. It is not in my nature to slow intentionally or letting others win...

Again, I tried my hardest, for the remembrance of Joe Shaw, and for all his family and friends. In particular Malcolm and Beverly who I did meet last year. I will contact Malcolm to ask what to do with the Trophy. It's an honour to win the Trophy again tho, for the 4th time in a row now  :o

Thanks to UKGPL for organizing, in particular Clive, Billy and Axel for providing the server! Thanks all drivers for competing! :)

Hmm, looking at the results in would have finished either 5th or 6th depending on exactly when tris disco'd. Not 13th!

Will the server replay appear in the normal place for this one? I'd like to watch the early part again  :)

For all of you who participated in this year's Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy series, a big thank you.

The current plan is to present the trophy ( again!) to Robert at Brands Hatch at the beginning of July. Everyone is welcome to come along, either for the day, or for the weekend as we will be camping at the circuit and consuming a few beers  ;)

Malcolm Shaw ( Joe's father) and his partner Beverley usually attend and personally hand over the trophy and the occasion might involve a beer or two.

The cost of tickets for this weekend of motor racing are very reasonable and it looks like the camping is free ( this has still to be verified ).

You can follow the planning and names of those who intend to come along on this thread:-

Sadly I am already booked for Goodwood, with friends staying too - I won't be able to make Brands this year.

Congrats to Rob for winning this year's JSMT  :). I'm sorry not to have made the last two races. Real life events meant I couldn't take part unfortunately. Hopefully things will settle down this coming Sunday.

Congrats. to Rob!  It was fun to turn a few laps with some of 1967's finest.  I didn't stay for the race, as Ukgpl has become famous for it's mass-disco's.  I'm unavoidably Wifi ATM, and expected someone to otherwise pass the blame onto me, when the inevitable happened. ::)  Sad too see so many races, cut short for so many, for so long.

A happier item to report.  The 1955 F1's previously reported by some, as being ready to race any day now, for several months, are now completed.  I hope to join you for some early fun races.  No disco's reported by any testers, and all car parts guaranteed not to fall off!  ;D

I was also frozen oot, strange, I have raced here a few times in the past, notably my second ever UKGPL race, when all was fine... summat to do with 60fps?  It actually took me a few attempts to join in the first place, so my connection may not have been the best last night.

Tried to avoid the L1 tangle after the chicane, stayed to the side but it wasn't enough.  Got going again after narrowly avoiding being flipped and for the next few laps wondered whether or not to reset.  I eventually did but I think the slightly odd track groove was what I was experiencing rather than bent suspension.

Managed to have a bit of fun tho.  Thanks for hosting and congrats Rob.

Bob.
