Title: UKGPL Season 31 (2017) Amateurs Trophy (65) - Bridgehampton - May 9
Post by: Rainier on May 01, 2017, 08:38:18 AM +0100
 SEASON 31 Amateurs Trophy (65) : Round 6  BRIDGEHAMPTON
Bridgehampton was a race track located near Sag Harbor, New York, United States. The circuit opened in 1957, following a series of road races held from 1949 until 1953. It was one of the first permanent road racing venues in the United States, opening after Thompson Speedway, two years after Road America, the year after Watkins Glen International, and the same year as Lime Rock Park and Laguna Seca Raceway. In its early years, Bridgehampton was host to major international series, including the World Sportscar Championship, Can-Am, and NASCAR Grand National. By the early 1970s, the track was used mostly for amateur events, and closed permanently in 1998.

Even with the Cooper or BT7, you'll win.
Except maybe in the case of personal disco !
So if it makes you happy

Well, coming from the current leader of the series and an eight times series champion, that is certainly flattering for someone who has never won a single series. ;)

Wow ! I forget it ! Thanks for this nice souvenir.

I am not the current leader if you discard the worst result, this is Walter !
And you are the leader if you remove the 2 worst ;)

I didn't practise much as I knew I was missing the race but, expecting to be handicapped, I took the Ferrari and did some mid 1:36s.

I did half a dozen laps in the BT7 because it's fun to drive and was in the low 1:37s.

I would expect the front to be faster than that though as, like I said, I didn't spend too long on it as I will be driving around what's left of the real Rouen next week.

Crying, no doubt...

New business, I shall be attempting a comeback drive here. Great track to make a return on. Guys, I have voted on the reg page.

ATM I'm at mid. 1:38's in Lotus. I'm enjoying relearning how to drive a 65 car and this track is quite awesome, but man I'm rusty.

Yes this track is horrible, no clean straight line is possible on the way out of the last corner...

Mid 1:36 is good, mid 1:35 is very good  ;D

Something of a disaster.
I ran wide on lap 2 letting a couple of cars through. Rejoined to follow Bastian. Going into T1 my line was to slide through T1 in 5th gear. As soon as I had committed I realised Bastian was taking a different line & I completely wiped him out. I can only apologise for my bad race craft & decided to retire the car.
Just checking the Set Up I was running qually fuel & would not have been able to complete the race, even with a Shift R.
This years Ams has been awful.
Will file a report.

PS. Thanks to Gareth for the replay - helped me to get into the 1.38s. Perhaps I would have been better trundling around in the 1,40+

Well, that was a short one. Started from 3rd, but dropped to 4th before T1. I had a fun battle with Billy, but on lap 2 he went wide in T1 and spun. I've concentrated on catching Dave, but at the end of that lap I've got a screen freeze ad had to restart my PC.

I don't know what happened to my car when I got that freeze. Hope nobody crashed into it.

that was very unhappy for my race. I believe you can take another line there later in the race. but that fast ?

Good to be back, if only briefly. Congrats to the survivors, and good to see the new drivers on the grid.

I had a screen freeze early in the race. Fran was directly behind me when I froze. I hope that you were able to get past my frozen car.

I was surprised that I was able to race today, and I had only practiced for a few laps about a week ago. So I am not too disappointed in my result.

On a different subject, the gas pedal on my Logitech G27 was not working properly. I really should clean the pots before the next race. I will look up the instructions on google. Hopefully it will go well.

Thanks,

Walter

Did not deserve 3rd.

Pod, your car just disappeared so no worries.

Didn't do much practice, not that keen on the track really. At the back of the grid at the start behind Dave who never moved at the start and ended up tapping the back of his car.  Then after various incidents I was in 2nd and Gareth behind me who was flying in the BT7.  After I made a couple of errors he went through and pulled away easily.

After that, a lonely race.

No show I'm afraid. Still can't get any connection between the top (middle) 60deg of my wheel and the front wheels of a GPL car...apart from the 55's where it seems to be a genuine help. It's a Logitech G902 and it's taken a vast amount of time to get it working well on other games...But I can't see a way of clearing the dead spot in the wheel.

Geoff your wheel is basically a G25/G27, so it should work perfect in GPL. I'm pretty sure that there is something wrong in your settings. First thing I would check is the linearity and make sure that in Gem+ steering hack is off.

That was a lot of fun.
I kept spinning in the opening laps and found my self p3 and 25 seconds behind Dave.
I summoned my inner Mansell and went to hunt him down, I got close but ran out of laps.
Grats Dave on a fine win and to finishers.
c u next time.

Thank you Gareth.

A very difficult race for me. I took almost all the risks to win and have no time to slow down.
Hopefully, I made no mistake.

During the 2 or 3 laps, I tried to follow Gareth but I quickly understood he was faster with the BT7 than me with the Lotus !
Then he made a mistake and I could overtake him and I had a very comfortable gap, Gareth said 25 seconds, but suddenly I saw the gap decreased very quickly (something like 1 or 1,5 sec per lap).

Honestly I was even more stressed when I overlapped Bastian, he let me overtake quite easily but them he followed me very closely and I understood if I made a mistake he will surely rearend me and ruin my race ...

But the biggest trouble happened during the 2 or 3 final laps when I tried to overlap Francesco. he alwas stayed on the racing line, he didn't slowed  and I was forced to take big risks to overtake him at the first turn after the starting line, a very dangerous place.
As Gareth was only 2 or 3 seconds behind me, I was forced to take this risk ...but Francesco, I don't find very fair your way of driving.
Maybe, your idol was Pier Luigi Martini, a guy who never understood what meaned a blue flag in the 80's !

I will have a look to the replay and maybe report an incident.

Sorry Dave but you arrive behind me at lap 25,if i'm not wrong, after one my mistake and i have lost a lot of time.I was convinced that the car behind was the other Dave....Curtis,so the intention was to not lose the position.I were glases (myopic)and at the distance of the screen i have difficult to see the small letter of pribluda,so i look pribluda only on the straight.Only after the starting line i have realized that Curtis was again behind and the two cars behind me were the two first position.Sorry again.

P.S:in other race i tried to look pribluda into a curve but i'm  finished out of the track.

Well i was very pissed by Francesco's driving who ruined my race at the beginning-

I was quicker than you (that time) and i had to think about my own race so I stayed close, agressivly.
I would have liked to figth you within being us in the same lap Dave.

Without the start incidentst I would have become third maybe, in the end 5th, was not much to catch up Dave.

Ok, say you have a picture saved on your hard drive that you want to share here. Go to imgur.com, and hit the green "New Post" button at the top. You can then either browse to the image on your hard drive, or drag&drop the image. It will create a page like this: http://imgur.com/a/7SSJX. Now right-click on the image, and choose "Copy image address".

Then in your post here, hit the "insert image" button. Two tags that look like this: http://and [\img ] will appear. You want to put the address for the image at imgur between them, so you'll have something like this in your post http://i.imgur.com/Avc1jlv.png. If you did everything correctly, you'll get this.

Francesco, with Pribluda the drivers which are overlapping you are not in the same colour (usually in red)
Moreeover, I know it is easy with Pribluda  to change the font and to have bigger characters

changes should be done in pribluda.ini (don't forget to backup your previous ini file before any change)

Yes i know but as explained before i avoid to look at pribluda if i'm not on straight.Keep in mind that i'm not young and my eyes are not able to focus immediately what pribluda say.Red,yellow or blu if i avoid to look have a very little importance. You arrive behind me in a place with only curves, until the starting line i was convinced that the car on my right was Curtis when i have realized that was not so i have released the gas but was a bit late.

Francesco look on my pribluda settings, If you want them and use OpenGLV2 rasterizer I can post them.

My position is in the center on top with distances in meters, so not much eye movement to see where others are!

Thank you Axel,i have more or less the same.As explained over i'm myopic but when i read, for example a book,i don't use the glasses. With glasses is impossible to me to focus the word. The problem is that, to drive with the PC, i must stay at a distance from the screen very critical.  With the glasses or not to focus the letters and numbers is a problem,is a mid way where my eyes fail. Some evening the situation was so critical that i thought to give up the race(not for pribluda but also for the track details). When i look to pribluda is not immediate the focus and than to understand what happen.Every time that i have tried to look pribluda not on a straight i was finished out of track or worse.
For this reason i avoid to look other than the road.Yes was a mistake with Reinier but at the end all is finished in the best way.

P.S:waiting the explanation of Logan could you explain me the method used to upload this picture?
