Server: simracing.org.uk XMAS
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Tony, I have posted full details of the races at NG now, & have included a sign up for them.

See here:http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1952885&postcount=7

I have put myself down for NG at present, but will happily swap teams to even up the numbers nearer the date if required.

I am reasonably confident that I can do this, so provided that I have not consumed too many mince pies and occasional glasses of wine, put we down for UKGTL.

I should be ok for this as well. I'll race for who ever is short of drivers but UKGTL preferred.

Could race for either team but as I'm so far off the  pace  ::) I've decided to give these races a miss. Also No 2 and 3 grandsons want to visit us over the Christmas/New Year and we are still awaiting dates!  ???

had an evening when the good lady wants to watch something on TV that does not interest me, so thought that I would get some pre race practice in for these races.  Can anyone give an indication of what laptimes might be reasonable for these cars/circuits??  I guess it is OK to ask outright as we are all on the same team  ;)

Any excuse huh ?  ;D

May not be a good idea to post lap times out in the open here - Der feind hört mit...  :ninja:    Rumor has it we're up against some very fast drivers, so you'll need all Arnold and Mabel can possibly kick out of the cars.  Am struggling with the D-Type here, so probably no harm done in posting my best so far: 2:18.556 - and for once I'd like you to exceed it...  ;)

I kinda know where I am going with the D-type, and the E-type is something that I have wrestled with before, so for me it is a case of getting my race head in gear.

But that monster XJS is a step into the unknown  :o and after a few laps last night I am getting that Turbo Capri feeling  ::) Best lap ( out of maybe 7-8 ) was around 2:22 I think. but there was a lot of hesitating into corners and missing of apexes because I was not confident in the setup/handling. I am hoping to get some time somewhere to do a few laps and get more familiar with the power of the XJS.

I have made myself very unpopular by postponing the race team Christmas Party....Arnold and Mable are not happy, but under no illusion what is required of them. I have given Arnold his Christmas present early and he is currently trying to understand how a set of socket spanners works, preferring to stick to his tried and tested scaffold tube and hammer!
Mabel has been given a new handbag and corset. She has donated her old corset to Arnold to use in beefing up the suspension on the D-type, so I am hoping that there will be some developments in that department.

I've always hated the GTL E-Type.  Has a nasty tendency to suddenly snap left or right, both under braking and accelerating, which I need to address if I'm to push in any way in this car. Setup tips on how to accomplish this are more than welcome...  :)

Ironically I pretty much found the monster XJS the easiest to drive.  Given the enormous power output, it seems surprisingly docile. My biggest problems were underestimating the speed with which I'm approaching some corners, and thus braking too late - which in turn results in the rear kicking out.  Can usually tame the latter with coast diff & brake balance, so need to work on that.  Can't recall what my best time was, but since I'm in the early stages of practice, it may very well change anyway.

I have to agree that the E-type is not on my list of favourites. It always feels sort of vague and reluctant to turn in? and the engine delivers its torque at such low revs that I always find myself in the wrong gear through corners, usually one notch too low.

As an aside, but still rather strange.

I tried a few laps in the E-type at Oulton as well last night, and started tweaking the setup in an attempt to improve things. After making an alteration to the coast side of the diff ( which I don't think is in any way responsible for what happened next ), I returned to the car to discover that I now had an ultra close ratio gearbox??!!! 1st gear was as per default, but 2nd 3rd and 4th were so close to it that they were virtually indistinguishable?? All rather strange as there is no facility to alter individual gear ratios, only the final drive??

I could find no way to re-instate the normal ratios, so had to revert to "default" and apply the couple of changes that I could recall making to rebuild my custom setup. It all worked fine afterwards but it was a bit of a head scratcher at the time  ???

Never heard of that happening before Clive and the E-Type is a standard GTL car, not a mod. BTW, I thought that you would take to the XJS. I imagined you drifting it through the bends.

It was wierd Tony, but all OK after I reverted to default and started again. These modern magic lanterns are tricky things!!

LOL. before we get to "drifting" I need to be much more confident in the setup/handling department. But towards the end of the short session last night there was a glimmer of hope  ;). As Erling mentioned the braking distances are hard to judge because the damned thing is travelling so fast.

After dipping my toe into the No-Grip arena in their GT season earlier in the year, I am acutely aware of how many seriously quick guys they have in their camp  :-\ I might need to send Mabel around to "help" with their team catering over Christmas ::)

2:22.7 in full race outfit. Loving this car and track combo (should I say so myself?) really feel like your battling to keep the car in line.

After a few exploratory laps ( mostly exploring the integrity of the barriers and front wings of the D-type!!), I was getting into Erling Territory with this car. It does seem to repay being "stroked" through the corners in a classic 4 wheel drift with a featherlight foot controlling the loud pedal.

A few test laps give 2:20 at Rouen, 1:46 at Oulton, and 2:27 at Elkhart Lake
should get a bit quicker with more practice. Can't see these times scaring Cap7 and Geoffers  ::)

Well I'm so far off the pace it's embarrassing.

1:47.7 @ Oulton, 2:27.4 @ Elkart Lake and 2:22.6 @ Rouen. :(

Not going to get much chance to practice leading up to the races either so I'll just quickly find a safe set  up and hope to make up places while others are digging themselves out of the scenery.

Anyone got a good setup for D Type they'd be kind enough to share?

Thanks.

Had assumed the races were today (instead of rereading the announcements carefully enough  ::)).  Won't be able to join in to the 30th; sorry guys  :'(   (Hours of practice all in vain   :()

I'm sure I read it correctly a long time ago, but then forgot about the non-standard day and just went into my habitual "next Monday, next race" thinking.  Memory isn't what it used to be unfortunately  :wheelchair:

I hope to make this evenings racing if there is a place for me. I connected my G25 up again yesterday. I have to sort out a problem with the brake lights flashing while not using them. The problem also shows up in the controller set up. I am hoping some electronics contact cleaner spray will fix it.

Not a very auspicious reintroduction to GTL for me. Short on practice recently I went online to check out the tracks and met Matt who gave me some good setups for the D & E type Jags.  Yesterday evening I was suffering a very upset tummy. Probably something to do with having four Christmas meals in six days. All those sprouts, Christmas puds and chocolate logs etc. plus some unusual beverages for me. I am on a diet of dry toast and water today.

For some reason when joining I kept losing my internet connection. About five times on the first track and a couple of time on the second. I was about halfway through the second race and struggling with a car not handling the way I was expecting when it occurred to me I had not re loaded the good setups after my lost connections. It had been one of those days, things usually go wrong in threes but this had been more like 3’s x 2. I didn’t feel up for race three although I had found the XJS the easiest to drive and knew the track.

Anyway tomorrow is a new year and a fresh start so I wish all A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Thanks to all those who organised and took part in these races.

I had been looking forward to these races as a fun evening after the excesses of Christmas and, just for once, I thought I had done some decent preparation.
Before I had always struggled with the D-type and that horrible gearbox where someone has stolen a ratio. In private practice I had squeezed my PB down to the low 1:17's and during the pre race stuff I managed a 1:16, so I was quite chuffed with that side of things.........but.... My actual race could have been better. I am still in awe of John W and Cap's lap times and how on earth they find those extra seconds when I am completely on a knife edge of adhesion and control !!
I managed to elbow my way past Geoffers early in the race to steal 3rd spot, which he made very clear that he wanted back as he chased me hard until he was harpooned by someone at the hairpin crossing the centre grass. I made the mistake of easing off, thinking that I would have a comfortable cushion when he had recovered, but it simply inspired Geoffers and he upped his pace it seems. Then I made an error at the end of the straight and spun the car 180, which was bad enough, but I also allowed the engine to stall ??!!  :-\ :-\ By the time I had gathered things together I had dropped way down the field, and basically pushed too hard to regain places.
A rather solid connection with the Armco did nothing to improve the handling and to cap it all as I entered the S/F straight on the last lap the engine coughed and died and I just coasted across the line in silence and frustration.
At least I felt that would be the most frustration that I would feel.........................

Quite enjoyed this one. Started out in the 2:24's and was seeing regular 2:19's come race day having finally found a set up which although a bit too stable meant I felt I was finally taming the D-Type. Although the run down to the hairpin was always an adventure. I Was actually reasonably close to the front 4 for a while until I missed my braking point at Scierie and took the car park route.

I was confused as I didn't realise Geoffers was playing away for these and when I was following him in a different colour car to my own I was a bit concerned I was driving the wrong car.

But overall if nothing else seeing the D-Type on the car roster doesn't fill me with quite the horror it once did.

Incredible pace by John_W Watching his car from the bonnet view I am in awe of how he got it around some of the corners he was accelerating while I was still trying to get mine stopped.

Thanks for organising Tony, Kurt for the results and a Happy New Year to all.

TTFN
John.
