Title: Lotus 25 Championship
Post by: Jeffrey on September 19, 2017, 10:20:44 AM +0100
(https://s26.postimg.org/pq7jlgbrd/Showroom_ks_lotus_25_19-8-2017-10-59-34.jpg)

The championship will consist of 10 rounds, raced on the following tracks:

- Round 1 (October 18th): Brands Hatch GP
- Round 2 (October 25th) : Salzburgring (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/salzburgring.2798/)
- Round 3 (November 1st): Zandvoort 32 pits OSRW (https://www.dropbox.com/s/y1xgzl2vew1dwev/Zandvoort_32pits_AC1.12.rar?dl=0)
- Round 4 (November 8th): Donnington 1938 (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/donington-park-grand-prix-circuit-1938.17313/)
- Round 5 (November 15th): Monaco (http://assettocorsa.club/mods/tracks/circuit-de-monaco.html#en)
- Round 6 (November 22nd): Rouen Les Essart long (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/rouenlesessarts-long-and-short-rtb-revisited-2017.11086/)
- Round 7 (November 29th): Longford (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/longford-1967.2741/)
- Round 8 (December 6th): Thomson Road Grand Prix (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/thomson-road-grand-prix.13694/)
- Round 9 (December 13th): Circuit de Pau '67 (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/circuit-de-pau-historique-1967.15617/)
- Round 10 (December 20th): Nordschleife

- Backup: Silverstone 1967

IMPORTANT: If for some reason one of the add on tracks is unusable, we will revert to Silverstone 1967

The order of the tracks are picked in such a way, that I think they will get progressively harder. That way, people have time to get used to the car and have a setup ready by the time the focus is required more on the tracks than other things.

Download them individually (click on the names above), or get them all in one TRACKPACK (https://www.dropbox.com/s/8yds6u1wesglels/Trackpack%20Lotus%2025.rar?dl=0) (Updated 30-10-2017)

Suspected Asked Questions (SAQ)

Why not the Lotus 49?

I think the Lotus 25 will provide better racing and is more manageable.

Why nothing from the Ferrari DLC?

This series was planned before the expected release of the lastest DLC. I want to use the Ferrari's with some other brands, and that will require some testing and the Ferrari DLC cars will be used in the future for sure.

Why such a long season?

I think this should provide some fun racing, hence it deserves the extra races. With 10 rounds it will end just before the holidays, which is better than a 6 round series and then 4 rounds before a holiday break. Now we can use the holidays to organize some fun events and test some cars combo's for future series.

Ahh, this looks cool. Never driven this type 25 before :-\ But count me in Jeffrey!

I do have three questions though...

I'd forgotten AC had the little Lotus  :wheelchair: Should be a cool series and hope to join most of the races  8)

 tumbleweed.  Oh...was really hoping it was a 908 v gt40 v Fezza p4 series  :'(

I think I remember being unimpressed with this little mosquito of a car when I tried it. Surely the 49 v the new f312 would have been more fun and appealing to more?  :-\. I could have watched the great 'Grand Prix' movie and got right into it, goggles and necker-chief  ;D

Will try the car again and decide if I want to race it  :-\

I actually created the SAQ just for you, and you still come up with these things  ::). Just wow...

tumbleweed.  Oh...was really hoping it was a 908 v gt40 v Fezza p4 series  :'(

They will come in the future, but like I said, they need testing.

I think I remember being unimpressed with this little mosquito of a car when I tried it. Surely the 49 v the new f312 would have been more fun and appealing to more?  :-\. I could have watched the great 'Grand Prix' movie and got right into it, goggles and necker-chief  ;D

The tracks will make up for the slight lack of pace these things have. Mind you, they aren't slow and those skinny tyres will make them feel a lot faster. The 49 might be more fun alone or a bit more thrilling, but I think it will be too much of a handful for a lot, which will end it quickly deminishing grids during the seaosn and a high number of people crashing out early. I feel like the Lotus 25 is a more sensible choice.

I'm gonna be very blunt here. You quit organizing races because you got fed up with people critizing decisions you made and you are now literally the only one who is constantly complaining. The 5 minute qually, the 45 minutes race and now the choice of car. Either step up again to organize the races or take it as it is.

If only I could 'like' a post! :P

I'll resevee judgement until trying the car out. I know the 49 is not easy to drive at all so welcome something that might cater for all as I don't seem to go well in historic low grip cars.

Ah don't get all wound up, I already said I'll give the car a try and decide, but announcing this the same day we get a whole new dlc pack is missing an opportunity to use new stuff that gets people excited.

Considering how much grief some on here caused me whilst organising I'm not going to shy away from adding  critique on occasion.  :P

The Type 25 is quite a lot easier to manage under power. The dodgy brakes and thin tyres will still make it feel thrilling to drive, especially with others around you. The tracks will also add to the exitement, as the 2nd half of the season is a lot of tricky tracks with no run off areas like we have today  ;D.

Lovely car, close racing guaranteed. Count me in please.

Added and let's hope for that close racing.

Ah don't get all wound up, I already said I'll give the car a try and decide, but announcing this the same day we get a whole new dlc pack is missing an opportunity to use new stuff that gets people excited.

The only reason why I announced this today is because I have the day off, so was able to put it together. There will be 52 weeks to fill next year, so there are plenty of oppotunities to use the Ferrari DLC cars. I'm looking forward to quite a few of them, so I'd be stupid to not use them. Nobody is stopping anyone from driving the DLC cars offline and I'm sure there will be plenty of possibilities to use them online.

Considering how much grief some on here caused me whilst organising I'm not going to shy away from adding  critique on occasion.  :P

I have no words for that.

Hehe, MJ is never happy unless there is Porka in there somewhere  :whistling:
Haven't tried these  yet, but they sound like a similar idea to the NSU TTS series we run every
3rd Thursday in R3E, not great fun to hotlap, but produce some epic close racing, so count me in please.

I have a major issue with this series!

I'm missing the 1st two rounds as I'll be in Japan, any chance of some delaying tactics? :P

Will be fun though,  especially as we're not running the '65 cars in GPL this season...

Do you know if it's of any use to poke some GPL people to look at this and maybe join?

Tried the 25 this eve, not quite my cup of tea as not a big fan of 50's to early 60's race cars, and it's a bit dull and slow on its own...but I tried it with a grid of 15 of them at Brands and it was quite fun dicing in a pack. So it has the potential for good racing and I'll give it a go  :)
No real preference on colour but I'll have a red or white one if there is one.

My initial idea was to go for the 49 and I have gone backwards and forwards between the 2 numerous times. The 49 is more fun to hotlap, but try the 25 at Longford, Thomson or Pau and you'll see that that thing will come alive there and will be scary in it's own way  ;D.

#21 Is fully red, so I'll give you that one unless you find something else.

Thanks for the encouragement. I was holding off on my decision to make sure that my schedule will be free. I would like to sign up to race. I'll take the #4 yellow and gray skin if available.  Unless there are historical skins for download?

Sadly, I might not be able to race on November 1st, 22nd and December 20th (Nurb).

Thanks for organizing. I am fairly new to AC online. I will try to show up early for practice.

Hello all,

Speaking as another GPLer [however, not in the same league as the other chaps!]  I'd be interested in joining a practice server at least.

I've had very limited AC running & that's all offline/offtrack;  with minimal career progression so far [halfway though N4].  As a result I'm probably not qualified for real events.
I'm currently little match for the AI [forever novice] & should probably look at how to turn that line off for starters...

Although, I did manage to get the Lotus 25 past them round Brands a number of weeks ago;  but admittedly online would most likely have led to a ban :)

So, I guess probably not worth claiming a skin/number,  although maybe luminous yellow would be in order?!

But hopefully, I can keep my nose clean/keep out of the way & pick up some tips via exposure.

Cheers,
Dave.

You've done a whopping 462 events here, I think that should be enough experience  ;D. There is still a few weeks to get used to AC and maybe ask questions about it. I'll put you on the entry list, if youwant to be taken off it, let me know :).

That's 17 now. If we get more than 18 people to register, then Cadwell gets replaced by Donnington National and Silverstone 79 will become the backup track.

The career is rubbish.. we all sat down and put an excellent way to do the career

It went on about how you start for one of 3 teams in a low ranked car, and depending on the races you do and how well you did you can get access to other teams etc.. once you finish a race you couldnt go back etc so all progress was stored. If you did really pants then you would get minimal drive opportunities, but if you did well then you could take your pick depending how you wanted to go through.

But it was too muh to do in the time they had before the patch came out.

I replaced Cadwell with Donnington 1938, a track more suited to the cars and I expect I needed to replace Cadwell anyway due to low grid slots.

I keep having a go with these, and like the R3E NSUs they will likely produce some
cool close racing. I am struggling a bit with how best to set them up.
The default feels like the tyres are solid, and made of steel. the car drifts
around way more than these old cars used to. I have stiffened everything up
and increased rear grip and they drive much better, but may be also much slower.....
What are people doing, if anything, to get them to go quickly, apart from skill of course.

I am adding a fluxcapacitor.

Edit:
So, i had a fair bit of laps with this car yesterday. I read somewhere it is deemed more manageable than the newer F1 cars, it is not!
I understand i need a completely different driving style then to what we are racing in the current series, but even after altering the setup it still manages to suprise you every single lap. Altough it is horribly fun to drive (particularly love the squirming and balancing under braking and its high revving engine),
racing these will probably be about surviving as much as racing your opponents.

Part of the fun of course, understanding the car and developing the correct driving style. I hope our resident GPL members can shed some light on how to go about racing these?

Yeah, these do reqiure quite a different mentality then the SCG ;D. I'm also still learning the car, not that I had a lot of practice, but you really need to be quite gentle and smooth. First few tracks are quite easy and familiar, so they give the right opportunity to get to know the car a bit more and I hope there will be setups shared to help eachother out. Because it's a lot more fun if there are more people finishing and completing the whole season and not quit out of frustration :).

Title: Re: Lotus 25 Championship
Post by: ChrisR on September 29, 2017, 09:31:34 AM +0100
I think with the L25 you just have to get your head into gear and realise that its a mechanical grip car, so setting the car up is not exactly the same as a gt3 for instance. maximising your tyre footprint if even more important, also.. sliding.. these cars - because they use cross ply tyres they wont wear so you can slide the cars round without too much detriment to your grip.

Im looking forward to giving these babies a go :)

How about the historic version of Zandvoort (just released) instead? Looks a doozy  8)

Donington '38 looks pretty 'in period' for these cars too, more so than the (albeit great) modern version mod.

Donington '38 looks pretty 'in period' for these cars too, more so than the (albeit great) modern version mod.

Thought about the old Zandvoort, but I'm a bit worried about all the mod tracks, so I'd rather keep the "modern" Zandvoort, which is so outdated in real life, it fits the period of these cars pretty well ;D.

I was wondering why Silverstone '67 wasn't in the mix?

It is a standard AC track isn't it?

It's a bit...meh :P. Very flat and bland, especially for these cars. It also has only 20 gridslots, so I think it's more suited as backup track, because it's a default track and still fitting for this era of cars.

If these have half decent drafting then you'd be amazed Jeffers - some of the best GPL races are on otherwise bland tracks. Silverstone included.
In fact the 60's layout is the only version I actually like.

Shame you dropped Cadwell, that's perfectly in fitting as the track is pretty much as raced in the 60's - it's also hilariously good fun  :P

I had to chose, or else it would be a way too long season :D. They seem to draft quite well, and I would have liked Cadwell,  but 18 slots is too low as I hope to get a few more people and I'd rather not drop a track at the last moment.

It's a bit basic but tbh that's all that's needed at the mo for these cars.

May I present the Hiki Waza Racing not-quite-Honda-RA272  ;D

I think they may be more skins coming, if not, I'll post your skins on the series page and put a link to that thread in the opening post of each race. That prevents me from having to change 11 links everytime the skinpack is updated.

i saw the announcement of this championship on AC forums. I along with some friends are great fans of historical F1.
If it is possible and if there are still places available, we would like to sign in.

 Skin n. 17

-PorcoRosso

Another friend, norwegian, is still undecided, due to time problems.

Thanks!

Thanks for the GUID's, already one step ahead :). There is space left, but depending on the amount of people, it may be necessary to change tracks that suit more than 24 people, but that's not the case so far. Added you guys to the driver list on the opening page :).

At advance thanks for the welcome and for the good choice of car and tracks :)

I don't know if is knew here, but exist other goods tracks converted or made from scratch (also historical like Spa 66, Monaco 66 and Kyalami) that could fit as well here
https://actrackrebootproject.wixsite.com/ac-track-re-boot

Also I tested the Zandvoort made from Fc3 and is made very well, with different patterns of asphalt and sand effect (really realistic)

Last but not least Bridgehampton. Don't know if is a real track, but is funny as hell  ;D

If I broken some forum rules, please sorry in advance.

Funny enough, I stumbled upon that site a few days ago (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14511.msg266222#msg266222). If only I've seen it earlier as Kyalami was used in real life the year of the Lotus 25, but I don't want to make last minute changes, especially when I think the tracks now will also be fun. I'm quite sure Spa and Monaco are ripped from rF2 and I don't want to risk using payed content as a free mod. If I know which tracks are safe to use, then they are more than welcome :).

Also I tested the Zandvoort made from Fc3 and is made very well, with different patterns of asphalt and sand effect (really realistic)
http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/sandevoerde-test-version.17404/

That track was released right after I created the series and I thought of using that track instead of the Zandvoort currently in the game, but I decided not to. This series has a lot of mod tracks which is already making me a bit nervous, so I opted to keep the "modern" Zandvoort as we know that one works. But this mod is one I might use in the future if it's good :).

Last but not least Bridgehampton. Don't know if is a real track, but is funny as hell  ;D
http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/bridgehampton-race-circuit.6604/

It was a real race track, but apparently it's a golf course now :P. One of the best mod tracks out there and we used it in the Porsche RSR series (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14468.0). One that will come back for future classis series for sure.

If I broken some forum rules, please sorry in advance.
S!

None that I'm aware of :P. Track suggestions (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14515.0) are always welcome, as finding the right tracks is one of the trickiest parts of making a series.

I created a thread at RD and AC forum, asking people to tell me working mod tracks for online, but I got exactly 0 useful replies and 0 replies at RD at all  ::).

But I know that Fc3, the creator of Zandvoort 67 will be working too on Spa and Monaco 67, so maybe in future these could be implemented without any risk imho
Also working about a '60 Formula 3

First off, feel free to ask anything :).

I can't remember how the team registration goes, but I'm sure somebody will fill you in.

You can use custom liveries. If you post them somehwhere that I can download them, I'll get them together in a skinpack and post them on my dropbox. So far only FMG has a custom skin this series, but he can't make the first 2 rounds, so I decided to hold off on a skinpack while I wait for more skins or when they get used anyway.

Where I can register a team for the championship? Me and Fabri Fibra are teammates, but him forgot to register the team, is possible now at champ started?
1st step: Click on this link =>https://www.simracing.org.uk/lm2/index.php. 2nd step: click on Team Management. 3rd step: Click on "Create a new team".
If you want to add a teammate you'll find "PorcoRosso86" on the drop-down list, and then click on "Send Invitation". Porcorosso must accept the invite. If I remember well he will receive a private message and he must accept your invitation.
For more precision about this procedure => https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=431.0

And the champ permitting use and sharing of custom liveries? Exists a dropbox with the other teams liveries?

Added a new note to the first post:

NOTE 2: If we find a gamebreaking bug on the live race server, so from 19:30 on Wednesday evening, the race will be cancelled and no other track selected.

I don't want anyone having a big advantage with a late change, so if we are unfortunate to find such a bug at such a late moment, I think it's better to cancel. Hope it never gets down to this, but I just want to have something written down before it ever happens.

@Porco: I've changed the folder name of your skins, that way it doesn't overwite anything, or did I mess it up now?
