Season 32 Works Trophy – Round 5 –  Monza

This round will be held at the legendary and well known Monza circuit. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a race track located near the city of Monza, north of Milan, in Italy. The circuit's biggest event is the Formula One Italian Grand Prix. With the exception of 1980, the race has been hosted there since the series's inception.

UKGPL9 requires some further attention & we will temporarily be changing servers with Works running on 8.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 26-11-2017
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Monza – Papyrus original.
Race length = 33 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Replay = here (ftp://ftp.ukgpl9.co.uk:32122/Season32/)

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14550.0)

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Hi Alain,

Assuming I am understanding what you mean..

If you move your mouse over your points total on the championship page you should see a pop up showing your tokens available (This is before the 10 tokens you will receive for the next race).

TTFN
John.

Have tried connecting to UKGPL_8 this afternoon for a test,  but seem unable to join (connection timed out);  however I seem to be able to connect to another (non-UKGPL) server.

Just thought I'd mention it;  in case others are having issues too?

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave make shure you have 60fpsV2newmod checked in GEM+  ;)

I do not see any other 67s server with 60fps at iGOR atm...

I do not see any other 67s server with 60fps at iGOR atm...

It was selected (& I don't think I've connected to any other 67 since the last event).
However, I did try de-selecting  (still could not connect at 36fpsd - time out)  / re-selected 60fps & re-built .exe with no difference for me.

Did connect to the Mybroga (which I think is 36fps),   but did not drive.
(I think a 60fps client will connect to a 36fps server - although will screw it up when driving due to time warps?  But a 36fps client can't connect to a 60fps server - "not qualified to drive"?).

Cheers,
Dave.

Yes! You will have flashes every few seconds, wich shows you a wrong fps patch.

Only a server with 60fpsV1 ( GT + 69X mods) can be joined by a 36fps client.

I have no idea what is going on in UK's internet, maybe the providers or the services block some connections...

That was my first time in a Eagle since I don't know when.  Nifty car if a bit fragile.  Good fun while it lasted(however brief).

As for connecting to the server, I had a couple of time outs but locked in on the 3rd attempt.  PHEW!  Hope that gremlin is behind us.

Glad you got by me after my tank slapper Doni, didn't realize you were that close and I was in the middle...shame your engine blew...

Had another PB in quali for the BT24, sub28 not too shabby  8)

Race tried to hang on to Art, but as said, had a tank slapper. Doni went by and just managed to hold off Alain. Inherited the lead when Attilio spun in Para, and held on to the lead until the last lap. Art braked deep into Lesmo 1 and I made a cross over. Was exciting 2 wide through most of the Lesmo's. Then he went outside at Ascari, no chance for me to defend, but again he braked very deep into Para; I crossed over again, and sadly Art went off and blew up his engine recovering :(

He deserved at least P2, if not the win, but it is what it is. Splendid run by Andreas for P2 tho, and also grats to Dean for podium! Thanks for racing all! No issues with the server. We could race very close :)

Sometimes in a race I take a car I want rather than the one I need. I could have done this race in the Honda at near similar times, and spent far less in tokens. However the desire to try and improve my GPL rank time for the fezzer took priority over common sense. It largely worked out (GPL rank bettered by a whopping 0.067 secs.....), but as I managed a better pace than Fulvio and Clive in the Hondas, and was consistently just a bit slower than Dean/Andreas, I knew I was consigned to a lonely race, watching Dean and Andreas slowly disappear.

I gave them even more beathing space and probably got Fulvio a little excited about an overtake when, with 8 laps to go, my foot gave up the ability to brake, and I span 4 times in 3 laps. If there weren't so many straights at Monza, I wouldn't have been able to stretch and exercise it to a place where I could manage control (and my fastest lap!) and keep a distance to the Honda in the last half dozen laps. Apart from those spins I was happy that I could manage to lap pretty consistently...just annoyed that this speed is little better than what I can do in a Honda or BRM...need to find time to play with setups, I guess

Cheers, and WD to podium

Arf

p.s. a couple of people said Hello in chat during qualifying. I know it's just being friendly but people need to remember that they shouldn't be chatting when others are on track... there's time at the end of qually/race for that

 Grats to Robert and the podium with a "hard luck" to Art on his do or die effort into Parabolica on the last lap.

I seem to have lost my way with the 67's and even my trusty Honda cannot get me anywhere near a competitive time. I was happy to start at the back of the grid and was aiming for a steady run and a finish with some points.
I managed the starting at the back of the grid very skilfully ::) and for the first few laps was quite steady.
Fulvio was running a Honda just ahead and I just decided to follow him until my tyres got warmer. After several laps the only tyre getting even slightly warm was the rear left?? all the others stayed in the cold zone??? So I figured that I was just not driving hard enough, but pushing too hard simply cooked the rear left and left the others untouched  :-\.
Played with a few different braking points and slowly reeled in Fulvio, who promptly got wobbly at Curve Grande and allowed me to pass. For about 10 laps he sat 150mtrs back and I wondered why he was not closing on me...especially on the straights with the slipstream. In fact I had a clear speed advantage?
Once past half distance I started to push a little harder and take a few more risks until things went all wrong at PArabolica and I ended up in the gravel facing the wrong way......Fulvio sailed past and was 800mtrs away by the time I had dug myself out.
I tried to close the gap for a few laps until I cut it too fine at Ascari and hooked a wheel onto the grass which pulled me into the barriers and bent something important in the suspension/steering dept. It was soon clear that the car was pretty much undriveable and with the leaders now not far from lapping me I opted to quit and watch the race from the stands.

BTW.....for those who find random chat messages a big distraction
Are you aware that you can turn off "in car chat" on the GPL OPTIONS tab. Chat is still available when in the pits, but you won't get any messages flashing up on screen when you want to be concentrating on your next apex. That is how I run my screen, so that I am able to see all the chat messages pre and post race whilst out of the car and in the pits. But I get no distractions when I am supposed to be driving.

Yeah the ending was a bit cruel, with a tinge of mockery added for good measure, I could have walked to the finish line, vintage GPL ;D! Yet, it was my best race in a while, with a proper challenge for the win, which adds a bit of spice to the proceedings, faster car or not ;). I would not normally try a pass at the lesmos, especially if I am sitting in a car which is vastly superior on the straight bits, but it was the last lap and thats where the opportunity presented itself, so I went for it. A big five to Rob for managing to negotiate our way through the corners without touching, although I suspect the God of Warp was looking down favourably on us yesterday night  ;D ;D. When then I emerged alongside Robs brabby on the run to para, I soon realised there was an alarming lack of  firm plans on my part for the final braking zone...turns out my pole picking was a bit optimistic for the  right side of the road and I ended up beaching myself, with the engine letting go when I tried to regain the track... I should have woken up way earlier, as I was never more than a couple of secs off, and the pass would have been easy in the Eagle, having a bit more time to plan it. The days when you could just sit behind someone waiting for a mistake are long gone, now you need to earn your wins with speed and consistency, and thats bloody hard work  :o ;D. Grats to Rob for a fantastic win in a Brabham at Monza! Super quick and consistent as they come, truly impressive from where I  was sitting. Also podium, very well done, especially happy for Andreas, considering what happened last race.

I could join with no issues for the first time, connection was perfect in the race, but I could see someone flashing in qually, hope it was not down to me.

Thanks guys, see you at the next one.

Congrats Rob, Andreas, and Dean!

It's good to see Attilio is giving Rob some action. :)

It looks like I'd need an Eagle or Lotus to have a fair chance of prevailing over Rob. I have doubts the Ferrari would have allowed me to stay close.

Thanks Attilio, appreciate it. Also hope guys like Iestyn, Sam, Tim, Tristan and Greg among others will also return back on the grid. AFAIK Tristan has moved and yet has to get an internet connection...

Thanks Rob. I wondered why Tristan has been missing races. I hope to be back some day. Works has often been frustrating to me but it's still one of my favorite online series.

Another Economy run for me. I could afford a Braby but found out that in the Honda I was faster and I could spare some tokens. In qualy I was surprised that Clive, the Honda master, was behind me. Before the start I got a longer 5th to not risk the engine in case of slip streaming but soon I found that it was too long and I struggled to remain in view of the Ferrari ahead and Clive passed by after a little error at Grande. Focused to not gift Clive with other errors so to stay in view of him and when he went wide at Para I was sorry to see his retire. A little excite came when I closed gap on Arf for his mistake, but soon after was my turn to go wide at Para and loose that little gain. Ended almost lapped, but happy to have driven the Honda intact to finish even if with a lot of fuel still. In the end I found that Art gifted me a 5th.  :angel:
Ciao

Hi guys, lets see if someone can help. Took out the wheel today and realised disaster had stroke. To cut it short, my accelerator pedal isnt working, as the white tiny wire that goes into the Ds (?) connector has snapped. Now I suppose my only hope is to manage to solder all the tiny cables into a new connector. I am going to try it, although that thing is flipping small, managing to actually connect the cables is going to be an adventure in itself...problem is , theres 4 cables and 7 pins...I found a diagram with the colour scheme for the cables, but it seems that each colour needs to connect to 2 pins, do I need a bridge of some sort? Anyone has got a clue?? Otherwise thats me out until at least new pedals, if not a new wheel ...  ::) :'(

Sorry to hear Attilio :( Hope you can fix it...

I'm not much of a help I'm afraid, managed to screw up my only working button on my G25 while trying to fix/solder the other  ::)
