Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

I was doing an offline race with 30 cars and GTL would crash a couple of laps into a full distance race. I will try again tonight with 10 cars but can someone else also do a test please?

Just did a 20 lap offline AI race with 36 cars. No problems (other than the AI shoving me off track  :scared:)

Thanks for the feedback Dom. I just did a test with 12 cars and all seemed ok. Guess my PC is showing it's age.

IMPORTANT

We seem to be getting more than our fair share of miss match messages on race nights.

If you believe that you may be the cause of a miss match message please consider doing the following.

In your GTL install go to GameData and seek out a file called SIM_GTC.gdb. Rename it using Notepad to SIM_GTC.saf

You will get a warning message but proceed anyway.

Download this http://www.mediafire.com/file/eleijat33brb5bv/SIM_GTC.gdb/file and put the content into your GameData folder.

Should you ever need your original .gdb file simply reverse the steps outlined above.

Thanks

WT

I get those miss match messages when I forgot to reverse to the original SIM_GTC.gdb file after have activated that one for a previous LM race.

Thought I would check the server connection etc for tonight's race, which I read was at Kyalami, a circuit that I know well from GPL::)  So, I was a little perplexed when I logged into the lobby to see "Targa Florio" !!!  :o

Wot??? wasn't expecting that!!!

Back to SROU forum and, yes race is definitely at Kyalami....check GTL "Locations" and I have Kyalami ?? Hmmmm read race post again and...………………….here I ought to pass on a really useful tip. Don't just quickly scan a race post...READ IT CAREFULLY  :stupid: seems I have heard that advice somewhere before??

Just downloaded the other Kyalami and the Targa race has been postponed

Edit after trying server connection....it might be called Kyalami, but it ain't nothing like the GPL version!! although I did recognise a couple of sections that were part of the new layout...not that it helped my laptimes  :-\

Well, that was a short race. Car wrecked in lap 1 or 2. Doesn't really matter as I was dizzy with fatigue from insomnia to begin with. Too tired to stick around for race 2 in any case. Hope y'all had a good one.

Grats to the winners, yet another clean sweep by the alien trio  ;), I know my place in GTL...I think it is 4th or 5th??
Yes Tony, there were some great races in this series so thanks for organising things.

I had actually saved a couple of cars for the final 2 races from around the half way point in the season. The thinking was.."Kyalami has that super long straight so I will need the cars with the best top speed". Which would have worked fine, if it had been the Kyalami that I thought I knew!!  :-\ :-\

A late discovery that this was an entirely new track for me made for an interesting evening  ::).

Race 1 and I opted for the Nissan ( great engine sound  ;) ) and really struggled to get the car setup to drive as I wanted it to. In the end it was me that had to change when, and where, I braked or applied the gas. Once the car and I agreed on a plan the lap times started to improve, although it had a tendency to swing the a** around if I was too heavy with the right foot. The start was a little physical and I was given one or two encouraging nudges lol.
Cold tyres and late braking caused me to run wide at T4 on lap 1 and I dropped to last place from 3rd  :-\. Tony had the new model extra wide bodied BMW and it seemed to occupy the full width of the track at times?? but eventually, after much harrasing I was able to get past and set off after the other cars. Almost caught Roger about 3 times and  each time I overcooked things and dropped back again. On the last lap it was clear that his tyres were finished and I was hoping to find an opening before the line but BMW power kept him just ahead.

For Race 2 and the final race of the series I had saved the BMW and the setup that I had at Donington. I wish I understood what makes that setup/car so perfect for me but I can throw it at corners and it sticks, even if I get too excited I can recover a slide without spinning the beast.
Given the times that the BMW's were setting in the first race I was hoping to match that pace, so I was very pleased to beat the best lap times in qually with a tankful of fuel.
TBH the race was a little too easy ( sorry guys, should have used a slower car ) given the dominance of the BMW, and the only excitement for me was the start and a couple of daft mistakes when I was pushing for a fast lap. There was a 1:51 lap in that car if I could have kept things tidy and on a couple of laps I thought that I had found it, only to screw up one of the last corners and lose it again.

Please Tony can I have that car again next season  ::)

Surprisingly managed to nab 2nd place early on after a few guys had a disagreement at one of the turns. Was never going to catch Clive who was driving like a man possessed  :alien: Had another  :alien: behind me in the earthly form of Ziu who was reeling me in in the Escort!. Decided that I would rather keep 3rd place than risk a potential time costly incident (me running of the track and smashing the car up). So let Ziu get by and scoot up the road. Then all quiet to the finish.

Today I leave my job, and a career which has lasted 45 years, in the Civil Engineering (Heavy Maritime) industry.

Looking forward to my retirement and spending way more time practicing, so watch out you  :alien:'s

Grats on your retirement Tony. After 9 months since I retired, I can thoroughly recommend it, just make sure you have plenty to keep you occupied. I thought I would get more practicing time, but it just don't work out that way, it really is true that you don't know how you found time to go to work. Enjoy it.  ;D

Congratulations Tony  :thumbup2: :thumbup2:

I just wish I had known how good retirement was 45 yrs ago, because I would have done it back then  ::).

Just a word of warning about having more time to practice.... That's what I thought too, but significant others decided that other projects had a higher priority  :-\   TBH, I have no idea how I found time to go to work either!!!

Grats on the retirement Tony; hope it becomes you well  :)

Initially I lamented the fact that it wasn't the 70's version of Kyalami, but as soon as I had (re)learned this newer version, I started enjoying myself - as Tony guessed I would  :)   Did dread the Opel with its end-swapping tendencies, as this track seemed perfect to provoke it, with all the crests and dips.  It was surprisingly benign however, only mugging me 3-4 times in the race... ;D

Race 1 put me under heavy pressure from Dan for the first1½ laps, until he went slightly off.  He was gaining on me afterwards, so had to keep pushing until he went off again, after which I didn't see him again and the rest of the race was relatively quiet.

Race 2 a lot more eventful. Surprised to be 3rd on grid in the Opel, but lost a place to another catapult start from Dan.  Then at T4, he nudged Ziu into a spin, and in trying to avoid him, I lost the rear and spun. Last, bar from Dan who waited for Ziu, but I regained two places when I happened upon Roger & Bob milling around in a later corner.  Dan soon on my case, so had to push - a little too hard and I spun under braking.  Just got going again as Roger arrived. Chased Dan as hard as I could over several laps; we seemed very even over the course of a lap. Then it was Dan's turn to spin and I was up to 4th.   After a few laps things were going great - gap to Dan was 11 secs and holding, and I started entertaining ideas about catching Tony, when I overdid it at T4, spinning into the gravel.  By the time I had dug myself out, any thoughts about Tony evaporated, and I again had to work hard to escape the clutches of Dan, as I had thrown away most of the gap between us.   Got a breather when he went off, but on the final lap I spotted Tony up ahead. Maybe he was in trouble ?   Pushed a little harder, and promptly got a whack in the back of my head by the Opel, doing a half spin and losing another 6 secs.

Grats to Clive on the win, and Dan/Ziu/Tony on the other podium places in both races.

Grats also to Ziu on a Championship win that never seemed in doubt, and Geoffers on 3rd - would have been interesting if you had been here for the final  :)

Thanks to Tony for the organizing and Kurt for all the results.

Grats on your retirement Tony.. Certainly well deserved after so many  years of working hard. But...hey...don't overdo it, no need to put extra time in practice...lol

Cheers, Dan
