Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Note early race start.

Hope to make these ones but it's doubtful as I'll have a gastroscopy this Monday. No idea how I'm feeling after the examination.
At least I'm not allowed to work and to participate in road traffic etc.  :)

Great vids Bob but what make was the white car in front of the Imp?

Possibly a BMW 1800 TISA or similar. Hubert Hahne was the first one who managed to lap the Nordschleife under ten minutes in such kind of car way back in the sixities
(https://www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/1965_BMW_1800TISA1.jpg (https://www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/1965_BMW_1800TISA1.jpg)

BTW - as far as I now WIP for GTL for ages (Team Protobuilders ?). Hope it will be finished sometime.

IMPORTANT

For the Qualy sessions drivers are permitted ONE outlap and ONE Hot lap. After crossing the start/finish line at the end of the Hot lap drivers MUST hit ESC. They must not continue to do another hot lap even if they failed to set a time.

IMPORTANT

Just to add to the message above...............

Outlap drivers keep an eye on your mirrors for Drivers on Hotlaps.

Can I suggest that as soon as you start a hot lap you turn your headlamps on to warn everyone that a fast guy is coming through.

Post by: EvilClive on February 14, 2018, 09:07:09 PM +0000
We have done this in GPL and this is the procedure that we use..................

Car 1 leaves pits and does an "outlap"

as Car 1 passes the pits and starts flying lap, Car 2 is waiting at the pit exit.

When Car 1 reaches Druids Car 2 leaves for his outlap and car 3 moves to pit exit

Car 1 completes flying lap and quits immediately, before pit exit.

when car 2 starts his flying lap and reaches Druids, car 3 leaves pitlane etc etc

This system keeps the whole system turning over without wasting time.
All it needs is for someone to set a running order and shout "go" when cars rach Druids.

Clive to do it 5 minutes are very few, the last race we were 13 drivers and to do it need 15 minutes

Just in case you were wondering...............

Crash out on your Out lap; you can start again, time permitting.

Crash out on your Hot Death lap; you can NOT try again.

OK I guess Ziu is correct, individual Quali laps will take too long.

So it will be a frenetic and frantic 5minutes  ;D

Just to understand things correctly, a driver can only post ONE qualifying lap? i.e. your first timed lap is the one that counts  ::)

I have just yesterday connected up my G25 again and will try to make this race on Monday. By coincidence it was this series the last time I raced. I fancy having another go and will make sure my spectacle case does not fall off the desk into the foot paddles this time.

I had a problem with the Imp and Sunbeams. They worked fine offline but online I got the message “car not available on server” so was unable to race one. I tried to go online with the Imps #131 & #171 yesterday but had the same problem. I have uninstalled the Imp Folder and downloaded and installed it again but still the same problem. I am stumped.  ???  Any ideas anyone?

Did you install the Imp/Sunbeam manually from NoGrip (for example - like I did) or did you use the .exe supplied by UKGTL?

If I remember right the .exe does install the mod in an folder EXTRACARS whereas the download at NoGrip unpacked the mod to the folder
EXTRA CARS. So - if the mod is installed in the folder EXTRA CARS it cannot be found on the server.

Just checked the server and all Imps are present and working.

My Imps are in a folder called Extra Cars.

Ditto the server.

So I think Kurt has it the wrong way around  ;)

EDIT: Just checked the UKGTL download and it does make a folder called Extra Cars (note the space between Extra and Cars)

Have you bought the cars you want to drive?

Also..............recently we discovered a problem if you have GTL.exe set to compatability mode. Right click GTL.exe and under Properties check that Compatability Mode is un-ticked.

Yes, I installed them manually, cut and pasted from New Install folder into Extra Cars Folder in GTL Teams folder in GTL Game DATA folder as usual. Never had this problem before.

Thank you guys. Just done a lap in the Imp online. You were both right. Have to eat now. Will explain what I did later.

Tony, I mean I cut and pasted them into the folder and did not use the installer.

The problem of the Imp no show is solved. Because I had cut and pasted the Imp folder into the “ExtraCars” folder and not a folder called” Extra (space) Cars” it was not recognised by the online server although it worked fine offline. This is what Kurt was getting at. I made a new folder and called it Extra Cars and cut and pasted the Imp folder into it. Then I went online and tried it. It didn’t work. Luckily I noticed I did now not own the car (which I had when in its previous folder) so I purchased it and tried again. It worked.      Thanks for your thoughts and advice Kurt and Tony + Bob. I hope to make it on Monday.

Yeah, you have to use the installer cos it's also used for the server install. If the two do not match you will get online errors.

Glad it's all resolved now

See you on Monday night

If anyone gets the chance......................

I would really appreciate getting some sample lap times for the Ford Anglia # 43.

Please pm me your lap times. I will not be publishing the results of this survey. This is just to determine whether I could change the Anglia's used for this series.

Thanks in advance

Tony

Grats to race winners

Grats to podium

The Anglia better here than the previous race, was running in 6th or 7th until an annoying disco in the closing laps.  The Mini race was good by my standards, felt competitive at least and scored a point or two, but it gave me some bad habits for racing the Imp, which I eventually binned after some hairy moments! Apologies to someone for a clumsy on the inside pass at Druids on the opening lap of race 3, when there really wasn't enough room  :(. Liking the series, and the shorter tracks and race distances.

@ Huggy - During the races I noticed you suffered from random stuttering, not all the time, just a few times per lap. I wondered if someone else was using your internet whilst you were racing? Perhaps lower your shadow setting in-game and check in-lobby which data rate you have selected.

Almost skipped these races; my back's killing me presently, and racing makes it worse. Thus having to prepare for 3 races instead of just one, is very much not what I need.  However, having gotten off to a good start, I decided to stick with it, and glad I did, as last night was some of the best racing in a long time.

Race 1:
Qualified 4th, but was upgraded to 3rd at the start when Roger was napping.  Couldn't match the Minis of Ziu and Bob ahead, so they moved away; Bob at about the same rate as I moved away from Tony behind. Thus looking like a lonely race, but then the gap behind started to drop!! Roger had made it through and was gaining. If I wanted to keep my podium place, I would have to work for it.  Drove as fast as possible, and gap the shrunk sufficiently slowly for me to retain 3rd. Grats to Ziu for win and Bob for 2nd.

Race 2:
Absolutely crazy!!  Qualified 3rd, but jumped Roger's Mini at the start, while I was jumped by Fulvio, and thus remained 3rd.  Thought I was battling Roger early on, but it was in fact Clive, in the same Mini. He found a way past, at the same time as Roger had caught up, and seeming inspired by Clive's pass. Managed to keep him behind, but we were in essence 5 cars battling for the same place(s).  Clive got past Fulvio too, but after two laps more, he tangled with Ziu. Fulvio took avoidance the long way around, while I went for the inside, passing all 3 in one swell swoop, scooping up the lead.  Remaining half of the race was one long, unrelenting chase by Fulvio, where I had to drive to my absolute max to stay in front  :sweatdrop:  Grats to Fulvio and Roger for the other podium places

Race 3:
Qualified 3rd behind Ziu & Matt's Imps, but was jumped by Fulvio at the start (getting to be a bad habit... )  Matt spun at the end of L1, and early on L2, Fulvio and I both had wobbles, at the same time, but his was bigger, so I slipped past  :)  Not sure my nerves would stand for another race being chased by him, but just had to get cracking.  Noticed an Imp behind him after a while, hoping the two gents could keep each other occupied, while I sneaked away.  After a while however, Tony made it past him in his Imp and was gaining, despite my best efforts. He was real close on the final couple of laps, and I fully expected a kamikaze move.  To his credit, it never materialized, and I could hang on to 2nd, with nail and tooth.  Glad the race ended when it did; a few more laps and things would have looked different.  Grats to Ziu for win and Tony for 3rd.

Cheers Tony. Wife may have been using during R1, nothing heavy on the bandwidth though. After that, don't know. Data rate is set OK, will try the "shadows" suggestion, but I have a horrible feeling my range extender - sadly needed, as connecting to main router too slow - is playing up. Trouble is with these things, you have to fork out a tidy sum to find out it doesn't work very well, or won't connect! It's a Netgear one, which are usually OK, and it was fine for the first year or so.  Anyone's suggestion as to a good (UK available) replacement welcome.

Dodgy bussiness using wifi for this stuff. I do in one house, and it only adds a few msec latency
but even with a single wifi jump to the router it can go up and down at times. Mine goes up
to ~50msec when someone walks past the door.... and with an extender, mice farting could
upset it  ;D
I even had a wifi to mains link to router in one house, and mostly it worked ok, but it's not a good plan.

Huggy:
My wife has a "reader tablet" that hooks up to the wifi  if she just turns it on,  it will mess up my racing online.  My checklist before racing is to disable the wifi on the tablet so she can read if she wants to, but I have never had a disco after I started this.  Give it a try might help you also.

It was fun to race again as I usually don’t get chance to race on Mondays now and don’t race in any other series. I felt a bit rusty and couldn’t get my times for any car within one second of my offline practice times for some reason.

Race 1
I couldn’t get to grips with the Anglia, followed Kurt for a while but then he found a rhythm and pulled a comfortable gap. Anyway the race broke the ice for me.

Race 2
I should have done better in the Imp, Just drove poorly. Was following Huggy whose car was doing all sorts of strange things. I had to lift off a couple of times only to see him jump forward down the track. Thought I had passed him once but he suddenly appeared again 10 yards in front of me. How does he do that? I managed a half spin on one occasion then decided to go wide on a few corners and try rallying on grass. I found myself behind Bill T for the closing laps and he was driving so well defending the corners I couldn’t pass until the last corner of the final lap when he covered the inside and I took a chance on the outside. It’s great when a plan comes together, my most fun moment of the evening.

Race 3
It was Mini time. I felt I was just starting to get the hang of things again. My best race apart from a bad start. I concentrated on not making mistakes and driving a steady race rather than being too ambitious and things began to go better. It gave me a thirst for more online racing. Unfortunately I don’t think I can make the next two Mondays but should be OK after that.

Thanks to all and congrats to winners and podiums.

Yes misnoimis, it was good fun unfortunately for me I had 1 click too little of fuel! ::) As a result of my hard driving, my engine was misfiring as I entered the last long corner and I couldn't accelerate fully around it allowing you to out accelerate to the finishing line.  :'(

Thanks for the additional tips re. connections phspok and Bob, all useful stuff. Sorry a flaky connection caused some woe for others last night. Sadly,  WiFi is the only way I can connect my PC, as the main phone line and therefore the router are two floors down, I'd need a very long Ethernet cable and a big drill :)   I can probably persuade Mrs. H to leave any browsing or reading her tablet and just watch TV during the duration of a race, however, with any luck. And considerable diplomacy.  ;D

I had to do much the same Huggy, I had an ethernet cable to a wifi repeater in the same room, then that connected
to a wifi extender on the floor below, and that connected to the router a floor below that...
as long as no one was using catch up on sky (yes it was a sky broadband!) it worked fairly well
and no one ever complained. The latency was 20 msec or so extra, but as long as it remained stable
there wasn't any bother. As commented, it doesn't take much to upset it though.

Hard luck Bill, you would have held your place then. I thought you were driving well. I always tend to put too much fuel in to be safe.  ;)

And considerable diplomacy.  ;D
Have you considered using that system that plugs into the 3pin power socket. Sorry I do not know it's tech name but someone here will.

Powerline? It's what I used once in my example. it sort of worked, but if the spin dryer (or even the hair dryer)
ever started up it spiked, and dropped the conn. It's not good if each of the floors ring main go back to the board
in the garage for example (as mine did) so the lengths between floors was huge - top floor to garage
then back out to the middle floor, then back to the garage, then out to the ground floor
Worked ok between sockets on the same floor, but not between floors (in my case)
I ended up with
PC - ethernet cable - wifi powerline adapter floor3 - powerline wifi floor 2 - wifi repeater floor 1 - wifi router on ground floor

Was not a great solution, was the only time I suffered dropped conns in GTL

1) I think I owe an apology to Ziu for baulking him on his quali lap :-[ I do try and keep out of the way of cars that are on a hot laps in any race, but I must have been asleep ?

Race 1) was a struggle with the Anglebox, just could not find the sweet spot
Race 2) was better, with the Minge, I got an almost perfect start with a front wheel drive car and for the first time actually felt that I had a front wheel drive car that worked. After working my way past Erling and Fulvio I was On Ziu's tail and hoping to find an opening. On such a short track it was tough and when he appeared to go into Druids a little wide I thought that there might be room for a small Mini around the inside. But Ziu was taking a late apex and the gap that was there disappeared. I clipped the rear of his Anglia and we both span out...Sorry again Ziu  :-\ I allowed Ziu to get in front and followed him for the rest of the race.
Race 3) I thought that the Imp was the best car for me but made a complete mess of my race ending up almost at the back of the field. Too many mistakes and too little skill.
Great format for this series, and some close exciting racing...thanks Tony.

You need to baulk a little better next time - he still got pole in all 3 races...  ;D

Race one in the Anglebox was fun, but spent the last half trying to get past an unreasonably slow
Anglia.  :P
Missed Race 2 because I kept CTD when loading Fulvio, maybe his lack of skins, maybe mine, not sure
Race 3 was fun, but threw it onto the grass end of Lap 1, then had some fun trying to make up places

Don't worry Clive, I got Pole also with you in front to me, also if not could do track record on qualy, I think that I lost 1,5 seconds.

About race accident, for me it s ok, when an accident born so I think that's race accident, you wanted win the race as me you tried and happened this but if I was on your sit I tried on the same way because you are like me on the track and I think like Geoffers also. For sure someone not is agree (I know who cannot be agree) but not possible avoid some contact, if you didn't try what sense could have our race ? Ok we lost podium but we earn a battle. Run it mean push and we did this is important. Clive I was ready to do all to not loose our battle also if it was for the last place. When I drive I never put my ass on my sit to warmth it, if one day will happen that I will finish to drive.
I hope that you after the accident no stopped to attack me, if you did I would be pissed too much

I have discovered that your plain brown envelope was intercepted by Arnold, which he then wisely invested at the Octagon Bar in the paddock. But, anyway Ziu gave me more money to provide a tow in quali.  ;) so  :P

Sorry Matt, in race 2 I had the same standard #1 Imp as Earling. In what car were you trying to join?

Mabel paid good money ( well hard earned money from Ziu ) to get the new wide bodied Anglia especially for this race!!  It has special openings in the doors so that a driver can stick his elbows out  ::) I did ask her to remove the Boudica style scythe blades from the wheels, I felt that it might be viewed as unsportsmanlike.  ;)
