Hi All,

This will be the first of two test races for my new V8 Supercars series which will start after the conclusion of the forthcoming British GT series.

I have chosen this circuit and Clipsal to get a taste of the cars on constant radius corners and point and squirt street tracks.

I have set the race distance to 40 mins so that we get an idea of the tyre degradation. I will decide on the race distance for the series after the test races and whether we have pitstops at all the races or just some (Bathurst etc).

I hope to have the server up and running before Wednesday night, just got a bit of testing to do first (after the Adria problems last week!)

Oh, replied in the other thread before seeing this. Interested in the cars and hope they feel good. Track should be safe to use, as I've seen it being used at other places.

The cars are tricky in every game ive tried them in. But nice to see the use if this mod.

We ran this track before with the F40's

Ok so yes, i downloaded the 4K base pack and over wrote.

Shame the track is so short and tight, these cars are way overpowered for this place.

Don't worry, I am putting together as many of the real life tracks as I can find for the series.

FYI - thanks to PICNIC we now have the V8 test server up and running so you can get online to make sure everything works ok for Sundays race!

How hard did you look? It's there this morning and 2 drivers set times on it yesterday, 1 afternoon and 1 evening, according to PTracker.

How reliable is that Jeffery? I can't see either server on it yet the game shows both for me!

Strange cos Felix set his time at 21:36 last night. Sure you don't have some other filters on?

Looking forward to this, a bit of a shock after mainly racing GT3's with ABS and TC!

The server initial grip is set to 97% and not 100% as defined in the first post. Is this how the server will be later for the race?

Thanks for pointing that out, I am loath to fiddle with settings this close to the race as I have been caught out before with problems and no time to fix it. I will keep it at 97% for tonights race.

With a few cars on track, the grip will get to 100% pretty fast :)

What skins have been installed by everyone? Just the base pack or the other skins listed for download?

Caught me out had practiced on 100% track, Ditto also ran out of fuel on last bend.

Grats to race winner

Grats to Podium

Forgot to install skins so most cars were plain white

Great fun, hard to keep on the track out of the adverse camber bends and brows  :o
I installed all the skins, I didn't pick anything, I just joined without having driven
any, I just picked the nissan as they seemed to be less popular.

That was good fun! These cars are quite lively, you need to modulate brakes and throttle. Its easy to run off track with wheels locked or just spin it exiting corners. Yet very rewarding if you get it right. I have no experience with supercars in other titles, so nothing to compare it with. But these modders have got the experience quite right.

The first few laps saw Felix take the lead. He was on qually pace i presume as he had an off and later noticed him leaving the pits again.
For most of the race i had Frex on my case, and as his car was better under braking it made it for an interesting race.
Looking forward to next weeks venue. Oh and nice to see some familiar faces from the GTL corner again. :thumbup1:

I had a lot of fun with this car. :) This is my favourite real car racing series and I was really looking forward for this race.

The first time I tried the car it was pretty frustrating. But once I understood how it works and set it up to my liking, it was a really a joy too drive. I liked it so much that I did over 100 laps before the race  ;D

Maybe because of that my pace was over one second faster than the second fastest one. That lead me to take the race as 40 minutes of trying to go as fast as I could, way more then I needed to keep in front. But then after the middle of the race I lost the rear going up the hill and hit the wall while spinning. It wasn't that hard of a hit, but my rear tires blew up and engine was off (although I don't remember seeing it red on the "damage map"). Weird...  :/

That meant I had to esc and go to pits in order to continue the race. I came out 8th I think. I continued with fast pace but not as fast as before and the best I could do was a 5th.

The reason I picked up the Ford was just because my favourite driver is #17 Scott McLaughlin. (if I may, I'd like to reserve this number for the series :) )

I hadn't turned a wheel with these cars or anything at this track before I joined
last night  :o So was still learning the track during qual! I was beggining to get the
hang of them by half distance, but had fallen off too many times to be a threat
to the midfield. A bit of a masochists tango with these overpowered cars at this
up and down track with nasty brows to catch out the unwary, or wary
but excellent fun. I will try to do as many of these as work allows  :thumbup1:

I can only think our last visit here in the highpowered, low grip F40 helped plus the track is so tight that you cant push the car really at all and end up coasting into the corners. Though the last corner did give an impression as to the car through a fast corner, learning on the front.

Never dreamed be doing those times so was pleasantly surprised to be that close to Felix but got pipped in qually and ended up 4th. tried to keep it steady early on and keep the Stefan and frex as close as possible but a few mistakes meant I dropped back a bit. Tried to just focus and close them down as it looked like frex was hassling Stefan a bit at times.

Sorry to SRW for knudging you but with it being so tight I was expecting you to stay on line which is why I made sure I came out on a tighter line to be along side you as I was carrying more speed.

With frex falling of at the end it made for an interesting end, finishing right behind Stefan. If i'd been more consistent I might have led to more!

Something I just didn't like about these cars when I tried them, but after a few laps they are growing on me..! Spent nearly the entire race battling with Stefan. Eventually got past, only to lose the place again when distracted by Felix going off in a cloud of smoke, and I changed down too many gears. Another small off near the end let Spanner through as well.

Great fun though, looking forward to the series now.

Congrats Stefan and Mark, commiserations to Felix.

That was an exciting race, I managed half an hours practice before I switched the server over at 8pm, then the practice session before the race, so was starting to get confident in the car, although I was still staying well clear of the kerbs (after being turned round a couple of times when I gassed it up over them).
These are hard cars to master, lots of power/low grip and no ABS, but very rewarding when you get the hang of it.

It was good to see a decent turnout as well. Hopefully the series will be popular later in the year!

Out of interest I was racing with a default setup apart from winding the brake balance back to 60/40, does anyone have any setup tips for these beasts, and were other people able to ride the kerbs like they do in the real life cars?

I think Felix is the best person to give some pointers regarding setup i quess. As for riding the curbs, it is a matter of angle of attack and sometimes lifting the throttle a tad bit.

I can't remember, from the top of my head, exactly what changes I did for the setup. But the main changes where: soften rear suspension; slightly stiffen front suspension with significant increase to front ARB; deduce front camber; moved rear toe to slightly negative values (for better turn in and rotate the car, since this cars have locked diff). And adjusted the brake balance to 60/40.

Hope it helps for future races :)

To me those tweaks sound more towards understeer which already was the problem with the car for me. But it wouldn't be the first time the tweaks are opposite of what I think works  :P

I did much that same as Felix, though perhaps slightly less.
Jeffrey is right, it will increase understeer, and yes they do suffer from that
For me they drive like the 60's corvettes in GTL, horrible understeer followed
by horrible power on oversteer out of bends. I prefer to not spin out of
every corner( it was happening to much anyway) and will put up wit
a lazy turn in in the interests of avoiding fences  ::)

I seem to find with most cars, that softening the car and gaining mechanical grip helps no end. I softened the springs which helped with the handling the kurbs and slightly tweaked the dampers but no idea if that helped.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 8 - Barbagallo - Jan 21

Yes, those setup changes will make the car a bit more understeering. But it helps a lot to gain traction out of the corners. Also a stiffer front ARB will make the cars more stable on the curbs
