Title: UKGPL Season 32 (2017-18) Joe Shaw Memorial 2018 - Adelaide - Mar 20
Post by: EvilClive on March 18, 2018, 08:29:32 AM +0000
Season 33-Joe Shaw Trophy 2018 – Adelaide 1st round practice race

For each of the three races there will be a practice/fun race on Tuesday evening, followed by the points scoring round the following Sunday. So drivers will get a chance to learn each car/track combination before the serious stuff.

This year we will be using a variety of cars ( so check the race posts carefully) and the points won over the three races will decide who gets their hands on the magnificent trophy that Malcolm Shaw ( Joe's father) has provided. The winner might like to join us at our annual gathering at an historic race weekend later in the year, where hopefully Malcom will join us to present the trophy.

Points will be awarded on the historic scale, 9 for a win down to 1 point for 6th. The series will run over three rounds at Adelaide, Sempione and Leipzeg.

For Round 1 we take a trip down under to an old favourite track, to race around the streets of Adelaide.

This will be a practise race before the real 1st round at Sunday-night? ;) Also is it 65s or 67s?

This is a practice race and is for the 65's and we are running it tomorrow 20/03.

The first round of the JSMT will also be in the 67's at Adelaide on Sunday 25th March

I did ask because in the announcement thread for the JSMT, you say first Adelaide  race is 67s, 2nd at Sempione 66s, and Leipzig with 65s. ;)

Apologies for the confusion everyone.  I advise none of you to get old!! I have a lot going on around here in real life at the moment and the race posts were done in a hurry.

Just to make things absolutely clear.

Tonight's practice race is at Adelaide and we are using the 65 carset.
Sunday's points scoring race is at Adelaide and will be in the 67 carset

The practice race at Sempione will be in the 65 carset
The point scoring race will be in the 66 carset

The practice race at Leipzeg will be in the 65 carset
The pointscoring race at Leipzeg will be in the 65 carset

so all the practice races will be in 65 cars, so that members can learn the circuits in driver friendly cars.

yep! that's the plan Robert.

Tuesdays are for practice in the 65's, and the real points races are on the following Sunday.

Adelaide seems like a tricky circuit and I hadn't an appropriate setup.  I've always struggled with low gear corners, and looking at old records even a decade ago when I was faster it was only by a couple of seconds.

I managed to get over halfway, however I was about to be lapped for the second time when I had a screen freeze.

Fell asleep before the event started. ::) Recently in an other league there were incidental screenfreezes at 36fps at this track, with 67s.

Very concerned that we had so many screen freezes in this race.

That is not a good omen for the JSMT race on Sunday evening as we don't want to risk multiple discos/screenfreezes in such a race.

Therefore I am considering changing the circuit for Sunday and will announce the replacement later today.

For this race I had set the bandwith more loose, so the clients-server traffic should have less load...

I don't think this was track related...

Quote
Leader of the race starts lap 19

30m24.660s
Tristan Bot gets disconnected while racing in position 1.

30m24.660s
Andreas Gebhardt gets disconnected while racing in position 7.

30m24.660s
Jack O 'Ferrall65 gets disconnected while racing in position 8.

30m24.660s
65 Clive gets disconnected while racing in position 6.

OK Axel.

It seems that 4 cars were dropped together at exactly the same moment. But I also had a CTD during qualifying and I think one or two other members had similar probs.

Do you think these problems were as a result of the changes to the bandwidth Axel ? or was there some other reason?  We have used this track in the past and had the occasional random disco, but we could get that at any circuit, so to have 4 cars knocked out in a single incident plus one or two others is worrying.
It would be a disaster if we had similar probs in Sunday's race.

Kinda ominous that we had so many checkouts.  I had a CTD in qualifying after about two laps as I came off the last corner.  I won't cry if we frag this venue.  Not on my shortlist of favourites.

As for the race, it was fun up til about half distance when the eyeballs started to whither.  I have some very useful medications for treatment but their cost is prohibitive.  I'll only use them prior to championship races.  Dean had fallen off and got behind me for a bit but with the vision fading, putting up a fight was more bravado than smart.  Grats on the win, Axel!

Those BW settings (every 5th frame) should have been more save... normaly I use a higher rate (every 4th frame)

IMO it has to do with single drivers bad connections.
When the lag adds too much discrepance the server disconnects him and takes some others with it ::)

The server pc in use has enough power (i5 2520 with 8GB of RAM) running stable on manjaro Linux.

Yes the track seems to have some known problems, but not for mass discos.

I am guessing that there is no way to discover which client PC triggered the discos?
