Wow, thanks for easing us in gently Jeff!

Once the tires have warmed up you'll find them much nicer to drive, when cold they're deadly though!
My skin is approaching the final stages now and will be finished around lunchtime I'm hoping, although I have to go shopping yet and dismantle the dash in the Nissan......

Tricky combo for the opening race  8)

The car definitely takes some getting used to and even then is a pretty difficult car to drive. Just how I like them  ;D
I've put my setup on stracker if anyone is interested. Not sure if its a stable setup but it works for me. Especially after I realized the car doesn't auto blip the throttle when downshifting.
Oh and practicing a standing start is a good idea. It really needs that clutch or else it bog down the rpm even in lowest gear.

And another thing. tyres.
Can't we have a 0,5x tyre multiplier?  :P   7 laps and already my mediums dropped to yellow  :'(

yeah something seems odd with the mediums on some cars in AC. I cant believe they would wear out within about 5 laps  :-\ bit like the 962's you get forced onto Hards which are crap. Meds should last half hour at least, otherwise race teams in endurance would be stopping every 20minutes.

Are they really worn out, or just yellow? I often find them turning yellow but still within a few tenths of optimal.

Yellow after 7 laps. And the car is already tricky as it is as I couldn't test it for longer stints  ;D
I'm guessing they'll be red before the end of the race ( 20 laps )

We'll see how it goes for this one, maybe they remain fine. Could also open up for different strategies.

I drove on hard tyres last night and they seemed to wear linear, but as soon as the wear bar hit the blue line (crossover from green to yellow), the wear basically came to a halt and the wear remained roughly the same for the last 10 laps or so.
I don't fully trust the tyre app, so unless everybody falls off the track, I don't really like the idea of an unrealistic tyre multiplier :P.

Fair enough. And now that I think about it, didn't the porsche GT1 have a bug or something where the tyre wear from the medium was the same as the softs, but the hards worked as intented ?

Just did some laps - I had to enjoy being given the garage at the bottom of the hill by pit exit - 2 years ago I managed to get up close and personal with a Wolf F1 car in that garage while the loony Japanese mechanic took photos of me 8)

20 minutes later I was still hanging over the pitwall at the top of the hill while the Grp C field went out on a Practice session in the rain :o
Eventually someone twigged I was the only Gaijin in the pitlane without team affiliation and I was escorted out, conveniently I had to walk through the pit garage of the LM winning 787 which isn't allowed on track in wet conditions

Some of the details here are very good - this actually has the seating at Spoon correct unlike all other games I can think of having tried.
Just a shame the grandstands are wrong at T1/2..

From time to time my dyschromatopsia can be helpful. I just can't perceive that colour change from green to yellow, that means I'm a lucky guy  ;D ;D

Didn't the tyre wear seem to go very quickly on that thing as well, where the bar reached zero well before the end of the race, but there wasn't any problem with the wear, or was that another car.

I'm just going to stick mediums on for the race and run them till the end, to see where I end up  :P.

Did some more tyre testing and I can strongly advise not to use the medium tyre ( except for Jeffrey, you can use it  )

Tried to do a 21 lap stint and after around 5 laps the rear got yellow, not too bad but around lap 8/9 I started to lose about 0.5 - 1 sec compared to my best time.
Around lap 12 or so the rear tyres turned red, after that I was keeping my eye on the my other tyre app ( which just shows the exact percentage of grip, yellow is <98 and red is <96 )
At lap 17 it all went to hell. The tyres started to pass the treshold below 94% and that just means the tyres is completely done. No grip whatsoever and the percentage is dropping really quickly ( think I lost 2% in lap).
After trying to complete 2 laps more I just gave up with the rear tyres at 89% and several spins.

After that I tried a few laps of the hards but to my surprise they were pretty good. Abit more understeer but that makes the car abit easier to drive. So after 7 laps I almost beat my best lap of the mediums and the tyres still at around 99% I called it quits.

So unless your good at conserving tyres ( which I'm very bad at  :P )  I don't think they are gonna last a full race.

I had a good play with setups tonight - I'm not quite at Maikels pace but through playing with quite a lot of suspension parts I've ended up with a car that I finally connect with (As opposed to connecting with the armco every lap).
The esses are fantastic once the car is setup better for them, trailing and and part throttle through most of them balancing the car all the way 8)

I just need to suss out a few issues with hard tires (Meds seem to be fairly sorted) and I'm ready I guess...

Looking forward to tomorrow night!

Thought i'd better try out the hard tyres but found i was 2+secs slower with them than the mediums.

Hmm.. ok am finding the default setup pretty good, any changes i ended up doing made the balance shift, making it quicker but less preddicatable.

That was a great race.

The starts with these things can already mix things up, not a simple case of full throttle and go. Gained a place from Maikel as he bogged down a bit at the start, but Matteo took full use of his medium tyres and got into first.
We had a constant train of 4 cars going, all withing 2-3 second the whole time.

At some point Matteo goes wide and Felix and I move up. I couldn't find a way past Felix and I had Matteo breathing down my neck. Later on Felix went off and I got the lead, but 5 minutes before the end I got distracted by somebody's name label under the bridge as I approached 130R that I steered in too fast and clipped the grass a bit, sending me full speed into the barrier. My whole car was wrecked and I was surprised it would still drive with full red frontal and rear damage.
Had to push that wreck of a car to prevent me from losing another position to FMG.

Great race, but a bit miffed about my error while in the lead  :P.

Sorry for the mess up with the ballast, it was copy pasted over from the last 599 race, so thanks Pete for the quick fix  :)

Phew, what a race indeed.

I knew starts were tricky in these things so luckily I spent the last minute of quali practicing them. So when the lights went off I immediately release the clutch and drop down to 4th  :'(
Very difficult to overtake here so I spent most of the time trying to find a way past Matteo's impregnable defense  ;D
After about 20 minutes of trying to take different lines and failed attempts and finally manage to get a much better exit out of the last chicane and pas him at T1. Finally  :P
A lap later Jeffrey had his mistake and I'm back to first, not quite how I envisioned the race to go and I was pretty bumped out after that start, but happy to win the race nonetheless. Luckily the race itself was great. And Matteo, I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so that the mediums wouldn't last 40 minutes  8)

Now I’ve calmed down  ::) it was a great combo of car and track  :)

Had a disaster qually after late tweaks made the car unstable under braking so was only 9th.

Got a good start at the lights and chased Alex and Fmg for 15 minutes of good high speed fun. I was enjoying the spectacle of tasty race Maseratis dicing up close. But following Alexey closely through turn 1-2 was always tricky with deft touches of brake required with measured downshifts. He finally did a bit of a crazy Ivan under braking and I had to hit my anchors harder than you can get away with there, so I was spat off onto the run off into a spin  :'(
I lost 11 secs and then as I began to close on them again I got a stupid spin off a kerb on the exit of the middle chicane  :( that dropped me 17 secs behind the front pack but the guys behind were so far back I still had 17 secs gap to them after my spin !  :P
So last 15 mins were just solo hotlapping but consoled myself with a solid 7th place points finish...or so I thought until BT let me down again  ::)...grrr

Yeah, Mark. According my setup, these 1,2 turns was most difficult place in track, so i prefer to be not so fast and risky,  but safe and not to loose whole race here.  BTW usually i am not drop the pace here in  approaching to 3rd turn result ;) Every lap you saw it and can correct your tech, being behind me . No Ivan's here but anyway, sorry for that  :)   See in 3m 11s in my short vid below.
Congratulation to Maikel for win in so dramatic race for guys in front! It was true drama for podium. Watched replay and was amazed .
Thanks to FMG and Mark for the race. Car is very cool, but tires ))) I was maked only one small mistake in race and FMG passed me  :)

Short onboard vid. First lap  was like in very first time space station flying in vacuum  ;D

And Matteo, I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so that the mediums wouldn't last 40 minutes  8)

You won't believe me, but when the server was shutted down for the last restart I went on offline to complete the stint but decided that 18 laps were enough :). Yeah, the rear tyres were completely gone watching at the app, but IMO still drivable, and I decided to risk because I had no chance to match your pace with hards after I tried it. However the only way to see the checkered flag with meds with my almost default setup was that of setting the rear wing to 10. During every straight I was a bit slower and the chances of an attack were only a few and with a high rate of risk. At the spoon I've lost the 100 mts mark risking to brutalize Jeffrey's car for example. ;D ;D

The reality is that I've lost any chance of victory with my first mistake. Starting by the second position my strategy has revealed good but I pushed too hard making some small mistakes from time to time during the first laps and the last one was really a stupid one and costed me the lead. I shouldn't have pushed like this because it wasn't necessary in that moment.
Ironically I started to drive better when I was focused on attacking Jeffrey or defending by you, but my pace with free track should have been a lot better in the first 10 laps or so, especially if the followers started to fight each other.

In any case this race is one for my personal book of the online racing. It's always a pleasure and a great honour to race against people like you  ;)

Grats again to Maikel, Felix and Jeffrey for the great fun.
