Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1967 F1 - Adelaide - May 13
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on May 09, 2018, 10:06:19 PM +0100
Season 33 Graduates Cup – Round 1 – Adelaide

The opening race for this years 67 series will be held at the temporary street circuit at Adelaide which hosted eleven Formula One Australian Grand Prix events from 1985 to 1995. Probably the most famous event was the culmination of the 1994 championship, between Damon Hill against Michael Schumacher. The title was settled in Michael’s favour following an dodgy incident which took both drivers out of the race.

The registrations for this seasons Graduates Cup are not sufficient to support separate grids (unless there is a last minute rush). Therefore, both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. A Privateer may finish the actual race 5th, but still win the Privateers race. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.
The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go. Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

Server = UKGPL4
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 13-05-2018
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Adelaide  (http://jrpearson.homestead.com/AdelaideCircuits.html)
Race length = 32 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page  (http://simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=637&theme=6)

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works  / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Silly spin on lap 3, into the sticky tyre barriers. Good luck to those still running.

Well, That was annoying. :(

was sitting in 5th (I think) having a great race, Following A cooper waiting for the straight to lap them and screen freeze exiting Stag Hotel.

Shame I was having a great time up until then :(

Having played with the Honda in practice I thought it safer to take the Brabham...which I did until we were all kicked out. Rejoining with 11 mins left I was surprised to find myself back in the Honda...but in the spur of the moment I decided to not risk failing to rejoin, or block another being able to use one of the remaining spots, and went for it. To say that I was surprised to qualify 4th is an understatement, but apart from a spin on first lap, I really enjoyed this race. I found a rhythm and managed to hold it, soon picking up Doni and soon after we caught Andreas. I think Doni and I were a little faster, but it still took a little mistake for Doni to get past him, and I was looking forward to my battle for position...sadly spoiled by another moment for Andreas, and I passed easily as he tried to regain control. Bad luck Herr G.

I don't think I was fast enough to pass Doni, but pleased I could keep up with him, until we came up to some back markers. I think it Phil who politely let us both past, and maybe Fran who ruined our little race by deciding to fight me even though I think you were a lap down? Doni got away, and it took Fran a little while to see that I wasn't Phil, and let me through. By that time Doni was well gone, and I never got the chance to work out if I could catch him because of a ****** disco...

Fun night...

Also had some fun at Snetterton on Tuesday at a bike track day - first someone asked for too much gas coming out the last corner 6ft in front of me, and low sided off his bike. I had that horrible moment where I knew I was either going to hit the bike or the rider, and couldn't do anything about it.....and yet ended up getting inbetween them... After lunch some nobber took his iPhone out on track, and when it fell out of his leathers me and a few other rode over it and cut it in half!! Expensive mistake for him...we were more glad it didn't cause us to go down.

Cheers

Arf

Due to the restart of the server i forgot to look at my setup.I have raced with the default and this explain my bad feeling with the brake,but the big problem was that i don't had fuel enough,S&G at half race.Apart from this ,some incident have ruined the race.
Sorry to Baab,i have not noticed the car on my right and also not expected.Only after the replay i have understood what happen.

Sorry Francesco. I was surprised by your early braking and my car was sliding on the turn where we have an accident.

My start of race was very bad, I made two great mistakes on laps 2 and 6.
After that, everything went well for me.
I should finsish 1st (?) of privateers ...before moderation, just behind Dave C.

Sorry about that gents, I've no idea what happened there. The server was still running but I couldn't reconnect? There had been no problems during testing. Anyway restarted server with 15mins qually and the race seemed to go OK.

A real freeze is mostly track related when you step into a gap in the track.
Another track issue is a faulty continuity that makes mass dicos after a while - like at bsarthe.

The biggest problem for the server is when there are several warping clients,
the server has to compensate the difference of prediction and reality - where will he go to - where is he?
This can  make disconnections when it becomes too bad.

And most of all it is the i-net, no problem if you are surfing through webpages,
but keep a stable undisturbed connection over 100 or more knots is allways a gambling...

What exactly is the gap...can't it be fixed.... i usually drive the same line, as everyone....is it that small?

Maybe i would need knowledge about Track building to understand....

Track building is afaik like building a Carrera race circuit with modules.
Sometimes there will be small gaps between them because of a banking, curves or up and down elevations.
There is a very low tolerance of GPL...

Ginetto descibed it somewhere in SRMZ  ::)

Francesco should know he built Killarney!

At Killarney the problem that Axel found(rail effect) was due to a trace inside the track.At Killarney i'm quite sure that there is no gap.
Is possible your supposition Axel but in this case Bastian can do nothing.The question is why someone have freezing and other no.
Happen to me to have freezing also driving alone ,not online,and i have not found an explanation.For sure there is something wrong in my tack camera 2 at Monza.When i look a replay with this camera the block of the game is sure.

I think I've identified what happened.  I haven't used the server for a few weeks (between seasons) so I put Windows updates on to check for updates. Unfortunately I forgot to disable it before the race and Windows decided to update during qually (I know that because I got the dreaded "do not switch off your computer we are installing updates" message when I tried to shut the server down). Sorry again gents, I'll make sure that can't happen next time!

For the record my understanding is that disco problems tend to be associated with the server, whereas screen freezes tend to be associated with the client. There are a plethora of reasons in either case (some have been discussed above) but I find it difficult to imagine a scenario where a simple loss of data over the internet would cause a screen freeze.  There are dozens of reasons why something on the client could cause graphics problems.

Sorry to Baab,i have not noticed the car on my right and also not expected.Only after the replay i have understood what happen.

I guessed you hadn't seen me Fran, you can usually tell when someone's alongside due the change in sound no worries tho, I put myself in that position.  Glad we could both continue, your car actually then got me a second time whilst you were rolling backwards!  I joined late with the BRM with zero praccy so no biggy re the incident, I was running at the back then when I caught Dave Curtis I got screen freeze.  This track + 60fps seems to cause issues, I'm not a Luddite nor nowt but I didn't have issues with 36fps here in the past.  I'm not suggesting we go back to 36, maybe we can test the combos....perhaps we already did with the fun races?

Managed a few reasonable laps and was happy with the Dark BRM setup I used, if it was a little understeery.  For some reason my brake pedal stopped working so I mapped my clutch pedal to brake, only I then forgot at the first corner, I don't think I hit anyone but may have surprised a few as I scythed my way through to the gravel in a state of confusion!!

Cheers for hosting,

Bob.

Grats to Fulvio on a good win, I was hoping for a nice battle, but I pushed too hard, too soon.
After a dumb mistake in the early laps I had chased down Dean several times during the race, but always ran wide just before I caught him and dropped back again. I now know that I had damaged my car in the early incident and the rear left tyre became over heated whenever I pushed hard.
But, I just about kept the car on track in the final laps and eventually got on to Dean's tail as we started the final lap, so I had to stay close and hope for a chance to pass. We exited the chicane and fired up to the right hander and Dean took a defensive line, quite legitimately. So I tried a wide entry to try and carry a little more speed through the apex, but Dean got a little wobble on the brakes and my estimate of his trajectory and speed got screwed.
As a result I could not avoid nudging his gearbox and spinning him out. I knew that there was a big gap back to 4th place so I waited for him to recover, but he appeared to be stuck in the hay bales? So I drove across the track to try and nudge him free ( or was it to finish the job and knock one of his wheels off??  ::) ).
Not sure if he escaped himself, or if I did help, but he got going and was able to retain his place and I cruised in behind.

Without my repeated spins and offs I might have caught Fulvio, but it would have been better to stay on track in the first place!!  :-\
