Season 33 Graduates Cup – Round 2 – Mexico City

Round 2 of the championship takes place at Mexico City. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 4.304 km (2.674 mi) motorsport, named after the racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. The circuit got its name shortly after it opened when Ricardo Rodríguez died in practice for the non-Championship 1962 Mexican Grand Prix. Ricardo's brother Pedro also lost his life behind the wheel nine years later.

The registrations for this seasons Graduates Cup are not sufficient to support separate grids (unless there is a last minute rush). Therefore, both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. A Privateer may finish the actual race 5th, but still win the Privateers race. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.

The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go. Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page  (http://simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=637&theme=6)

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works  / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Really enjoyed that one. Mainly due to a few late arrivals and others who missed the race somehow managed to plonk the Eagle 2nd on the grid behind Greg's Repco. Got a good start and managed to slot in behind Greg. I even kept him in sight for a few laps before he began to disappear off into the distance. Meanwhile I could see places being swapped behind which allowed me to also make a mini break from the chasing pack. Eventually though Tris broke free and began to close me down at an alarming rate, had a few untidy laps and he eventually caught me on the entry to T1. I had planned to make a race of it but was too busy watching my mirrors and completely missed my braking point. Fortunately I almost got it stopped and only had a brush with the armco but the position was lost and Tris just cruised away from me in pursuit of Greg.

A lonely race for the last 3rd, I could see Clive had established himself in 4th and was around 0.5m behind by the end of the straight so managed the laps to the flag.

Well chuffed to have bagged a podium.

Thanks to all who were lapped, some seemed to make it very difficult for themselves to let me through. (Which wasn't really necessary as I was pretty much driving alone by that point).

TTFN
John.

Congrats Tristan and John!

This one is an example of "sometime's it's better to be lucky than good." I was lucky that Tristan was late and lucky that Rob, Tim, Sam, Bob, Iestyn, and Pelle weren't here. It did require that I be good to get so lucky. Tristan had me beat until he spun after taking the lead.

That was fun. I enjoyed it. It was hard work opening a little gap over John. I also had Tristan on my mind from the start. Could I get far enough ahead before he made it to P2? I drove well most of the time. I had two slow laps and spun behind Tristan when he spun. I managed to get going sooner. :)

I might have been able to go a little faster in the first half of the race but I was concerned some about my fuel. Once Tristan made it to P2, I increased my pace and quit thinking about fuel. It looked like he'd catch me with one lap to go. I got a little unlucky catching a slower car at a bad point on the track. That let Tristan catch me one lap sooner that I thought he would. It also put me on a bad line that set Tristan up to pass me. He worked me over good through the second half of the lap. I tried to hold him behind me but a loss of momentum and a bad line assured him a pass. I was surprised to see him spin in the esses after taking the lead. I think I over reacted and I spun too. When I got away sooner, I couldn't believe how lucky I had gotten.

I did what I needed to do to get P2. It was a very good drive by Tristan to catch me. I don't know if I could have done the work he had to do to take the lead. I expected him to be faster late in the race and he was. I did a nice job making it somewhat difficult to catch me.

It's good to be back. My new computer seemed to work flawlessly. I guess driving is like riding a bicycle. You may think you're forgetting how to do it but it comes back quickly.

Thanks guys. I appreciate you letting me race with you.

A Camshaft of my Maserati-Motor went...Maybe to much revs or because of my old MS-Sidewinder Pedals (don´t have any better at the moment).  ???  So that was it.
Gratulations to the Podium!
